alan: people in the bay -- >> people in the bay area rolling up their sleeves to get a second booster shot. a few counties started administering the shots. it comes as the federal government authorized shots for some groups. now tonight, state health leaders say they support the plan. tim johns has more on who should be booking their appointment. >> it is the next stage in the battle against covid-19. >> individuals who are 50 years or older are getting a second booster. >> with it authorized by the cdc and fda, some bay area counties gave out second booster shots on wednesday. in contra costa county, dr. sophie mercurio says demand on the first day was strong. >> we have seen most people coming in today requesting boosters. >> despite the federal authorization on tuesday, some experts don't think everyone will need to get a second booster.

>> tomorrow is the deadline to apply for california's relief program. lawmakers hope the program will be extended. the economy and housing are key to building a better bay area. luz pena has more on what could happen tomorrow and what it means for renters. >> the fate of hundreds of thousands of californians waiting on the rent relief program is in limbo. in 24 hours, they can lose all the protections keeping them from getting evicted. she's been waiting on the states aid for three months. >> yes, i swear if it wasn't for the kids, it wouldn't be as hard. but the kids knowing that they don't know where they might sleep tomorrow, that is what hurts the most.

>> she's a mom of six. she runs a daycare with her husband in their home. they lost business and fell behind in rent. they owed two months in rent, about $5,000. if california's rent relief program expires, they could end up homeless. a reality they know too well. their entire family has been homeless twice before. >> the whole school new that they were -- homeless, they knew how they had to get to school every day. they knew where they were traveling from. it is like -- it hurts, because we work so hard to just have a roof period. >> she urged state officials to pass a state control ordinance or extend protections past tomorrow. assembly member timothy grayson's legislation, a b 2179, can extend it until june for anyone who appliat h by thursda.

but the bill hasn't been approved yet. >> tomorrow, it goes to the senate floor for a full vote of the senate. i'm confident my colleagues see and feel the urgency. >> landlords with the east rental association don't see ab 2179. >> does it really solve the problem? we know the state level, 500,000 applications have been submitted. 160,000 have been processed. there is a backlog that is incredible. >> derek barnes says landlords are feeling the pressure of the backlog. more than half of the landlords haven't received any money from the state. >> we constantly get calls about the updates, the money. >> an extension would mean having a home from her kids.

russia provided these images firing at targets. as the shelling continues, u.s. intelligence says it believes vladimir putin was misinformed by military commanders who are too afraid to tell them the truth of how bad the invasion is going. he placed another $500 million in economic aid with peace talks expected on friday online. ron: in elementary school getting behind the people of ukraine. students in oakland are finding a way to support children who fled the war-torn country from a simple hello to a carefully crafted heart. the students at saint teresa school in oakland want the children of ukraine to know they care. >> they know that someone is out there and they care and love them. >> i'm kind of trying to be friendly and have a conversation with them to have someone to talk to. get their mind off what is happening. >> i feel it will help them

not as much mist and drizzle. tomorrow, warming trend begins. it remains dry through the week with the warmest day saturday before the second wave next week. that is the one where we are warm, if not hot. high pressure the eastern pacific with a clockwise flow. another cold front to the neighborhoods. the dry air keeping things in tomorrow morning. a little bit of fog escaping along the coast. with the winds, they will try and evade coastal valleys. some patchy, low clouds just about anywhere tomorrow morning. it will not be nearly as sick. much faster leading to the warmer temperatures. a few 30's possible tonight. inlet east bay valleys. 40 in livermore, same thing in san jose. 47 in san francisco. in lake and mendocino county, pets and plants protected.

large out-of-state corporations have set their sights on california. they've written a ballot proposal to allow online sports betting. they tell us it will fund programs for the homeless, but read the fine print. 90% of the profits go to out-of-state corporations, leaving almost nothing for the homeless. no real jobs are created here. but the promise between our state and our sovereign tribes would be broken forever. these out-of-state corporations don't care about california. but we do. stand with us. care coalition, where are we on alaska airlines? we found that people are raving about their customer care. i mean, take a look at this! wow! [dog barks] says here they have the most flights from the west coast. they fly to chicago, hawaii, cancun! wow! do they fly to my magical faraway kingdom of care-a-lot, way up in the clouds where anything is possible? they have direct flights to vegas.
