ama: six years ago today a san francisco woman and her 2 1/2-year-old daughter were last seen by relatives. the body of nicole fitts was discovered at mclaren park, her daughter ariana is still missing. police have now increased the reward in the case. reporter: a vigil for nicole fitts and her daughter ariana. relatives believe the 32-year-old's mother came to

mclaren park on april 1, 2016, to meet a person known to her. police say most likely her child's babysitter. it's here where her body was discovered a week later in a shallow grave. her sister con tessa fitts remembers what she was made of. >> the biggest thing i remember about my sister is -- is how much love she had. how much she -- how much love she had for -- pretty much anyone she met. reporter: san francisco police announced the department was increasing the reward money to $250,000 for anyone with information on nicole's murder and the whereabouts of ariana. police and the f.b.i. say progress has been made in the investigation. but no one has been arrested. >> as we continue to collect information, and analyze forensic evidence, and develop new leads, we together with the f.b.i. will be reaching out to people again in the coming weeks and months. reporter: according to the investigation, because nicole, a single mom, worked long hours, ariana was in the care of a

leanne melendez, abc7 news. ama: let's move on. will smith has resigned from the academy of motion picture arts and sciences. less than a week after slapping chris rock at the oscars. in a statement, the actor said in part, i will fully accept any and all consequences for my conduct. my actions at the 94th academy awards presentation were shocking, painful, and inexcusable. smith was facing possible expulsion or suspension for hitting rock. before he resigned. by resigning he will no longer be able to vote on oscar nominations. academy president david reuben said the academy will continue to move forward with disciplinary proceedings against smith. and the actor's -- actors union may do the same. ama: today san francisco city and transit leaders celebrated the grand opening of the van ness avenue rapid transit system. a ribbon cutting had this morning on the rad transit only lanes in the middle of the busy thoroughfare. pedestrian cross walks have been upgraded and there's new

undergroundwater infrastructure. bus rapid transit is expected to reduce travel time by 30%. dan: a new state plan could double the refund for recycled cans and bottles of the it's part of an effort to have more des dohe ptoherothe legislatured temporarily receive ten cents for a 12 ounce beverage container instead of fiv cents. big difference. the new proposal will expand mobile recycling centers throughout the state. the state currently has $600 million in unclaimed can and bottle deposits. $600 million. unclaimed. ama: wow. incredible. dan: a lot of bottles and cans. ama: our hot weather is going to be incredible. dan: yeah. mike with the weekend forecast. mike: speaking of bottled water you'll need plenty of it next week for sure. let's go through the weekend first by starting out where we ended up today. check out these temperatures. pretty close to average in san francisco and oakland. but well above average in our inland neighborhoods with some

mid to upper 70's in san jose, east bay, and up into the north bay and still that breeze kept us at 57 at half moon bay. here's a look at sutra towers haze out there but we expect any of the low clouds that are forming along the peninsula coast pretty much stay there the rest of the night. high clouds and sunshine all weekend with breezier conditions and cooler weather sunday. a chance of sprinkles in the north bay monday. that's our only chance of wet weather. and then we have a rebound of robust temperatures that will near us into record levels. in fact, we will have a low risk of heat illness for about three days. tonight, we're dropping down mainly into the mid and upper 40's with increasing high clouds. here's a beautiful shot from the exploratorium showing that it's still pretty clear out there. and the new moon is still around. so you should be able to see a lot of stars over the next couple of hours. but then the high clouds roll in. a little bit of fog at the coast. we'll start off in those mid to upper 40's at 7:00. staying at the 50's at the coast while we hit the mid up toker 60's for our bay and inland neighborhoods. that's pretty close to average and that's the noon temperature. look at this. by the time we get to the

afternoon we're even -- a little bit warmer than today with low to upper 70's back into the mid and upper 60's as we head toward that sunset at about 7:32. highs tomorrow, 61 at half moon bay and a little breezy. 67 at san francisco. and then low to mid 70's for the rest of the bay. mid 70's in the south bay. how about those upper 70's to near 80 in our inland east bay neighborhoods and mid up toker 70's in our north bay neighborhoods. jump ahead to monday, a cold front skirting us to the north. draw your attention to the top of your screen. and those are some sprinkles that will hit lake and medicineo and possibly the northern part of sonoma counties. look at this. .01 as far south as closer dale. it will bring in cooler air. our coolest day will be monday and then watch this area of high pressure split into two. and then watch that. move over to the great basin and another one off the coast. that brings us an offshore breeze. and look at these temperatures. 60's, 70's and 80's wednesday. we got 70's, 80's and 90's for thursday. our hottest day and that is a day where we will be pretty
