crisis continues to grow as a south bay high school student is dead after a possible sentinel poisoning. police are investigating the incident as county officials fight the crisis. could morning it, everybody. thanks for joining us here. we will get to that story in just a moment. let's start with a quick look at the weather with lisa argen. lisa: it is the first weekend of april. we will see mild temperatures to start the weekend. it we will see some changes toward the second half of the weekend. we had some fog around the bay with partly cloudy skies. temperatures are in the low to mid 40's, from 42 in campbell. 42 in nevada. we will start out the day midmorning with partly cloudy skies. temperatures are in the 60's away from the coast.

the coastal be cool in the 50's all day long while we see upper 60's, mid 70's becoming thel e t y.lo us and we could see upper 70's again. we will see that wind shift in a cooler sunday. we will talk about what happens next week, which includes much warmer air coming up. liz: in the south bay, an investigation is underway into the death of a high school student who died possibly due to fennel poisoning. a group begins to start to fight the crisis. we spoke with authorities leading the investigation. it >> a tragedy in the high school committee. an unidentified teenager, a student at the school, announced dead at their home. the killer, a possible event no poisoning. a statement released by the high

school district reads in part, with profound sadness we share the unexpected loss of a member of our high school student body. we know that any loss, particularly that of a young person, is tragic. our condolences go out to family, friends, school committee. the mountain view police department has launched an investigation into the incident. a spokesperson spoke to us by phone. >> we are feeling. we told the family that we are going to be there for them. this is something that we feel deeply. >> this case is not an isolated incident. county officials of raised alarm bells for months over the growing fennel crisis. it has gotten so bad they have launched a working group focused on reducing local fentanyl deaths. >> it is infiltrating our schools, homeless encampments, parks, community a large. >> the news conference was held

on friday. they highlighted the number of deaths in the county, a number stood that 29 in 2019 and hit 135 and 2021. >> youth are disproportionately affected. we see that half of the fatalities are the younger age groups. it >> while the investigation into the newest possible case continues, the mountain view police department is reaching out to parents for help. asking them to talk to their children to avoid another deadly statistic. >> the dangers of using any drugs and the consequences that can come from that, not just how they impact the student but their families. liz: a crowd gathered at san jose city hall to rally for the man that was shot by an officer last weekend. he had just wrestled a firearm from a gunman inside victoria at taco rio.

as he walked out the door, police say commands were clearly given to drop the gun. the group is calling on police to release the bodycam video. green was hospitalized and is expected to recover. now to the worn ukraine it, for the first time russia says ukraine attacked a fuel depot inside russian territory. a fire at a facility just 20 miles from the border. ukraine is not confirming or denying involvement. ukrainian forces claim to of pushed russian forces out of towns and villages. despite the constant showing, some troops have moved back from kyiv and the nearby airport. some were able to escape, many remain trapped with little food, water, or electricity. in the bay area, refugees are bracing for the arrival of ukrainians. the number set to land here is still unclear. as tara campbell tells us, there

sierra nevada experienced its peak snowpack in mid january. liz: the snowpack sets the stage for the water supply. the governor ordered water agencies to implement more conservation measures. the lack of snow does mean ski resorts are starting to close their operations. this will be the last week and for diamond peak, northstar announced they are closing april 17. kirkwood and palisades close may 1. the resorts will start preparing for summer activities. next week, we will have a heat wave. lisa: it will be short-lived, we don't really want it. it will increase the snowmelt in the sierra that is really poor as it is. we have 40's and 50's out there with just a little patchy fog. we will talk about milder temperatures today, cool enough

state and local regulators are threatening to withdraw medicare funding. this comes after the hospital reported to nonfatal overdoses last year. laguna honda has until april 14 to fix issues that put the hospital out of compliance, including contraband found on campus. six years ago, a woman and her daughter were last seen i relatives. one week later, the body of nicole fitts was discovered. her daughter is still missing. police have now increased the reward in the case. it >> the vigil for nicole fitts , the 32-year-old mother came to mclaren park on april 1, 2016 to meet a person known to her. most likely, it was a babysitter. here, her body was discovered a week later in a shallow grave. her sister remembers what she was made of.

the busy thoroughfare. vestry and crosswalks have been upgraded and there is new underground water infrastructure. bus rapid transit will reduce travel time by 30%. a new state plan could double the refund for recycled cans and bottles. this is part of an effort to have more people recycle. if the legislature approves the plan, $.10 on a 12 ounce beverage container instead of five cents. the new proposal will expand mobile recycling centers. the state has $600 million in unclaimed canon bottle deposits. this weekend, cancellations could be possible on some alaska airlines flights because of a pilot protest. the group was at the terminal area, demanding a new contract. the pilots are not on strike. they have been in contract negotiations for three years. demands include better pay and more flexible schedules.

monday. the numbers come down eight degrees tomorrow. notice the 50's, just 60 in oakland. that could be 10 degrees cooler. here is monday. it's the coolest day out of the next seven. if this moves in it, we could have a cooler day in the bay area. tuesday, that system moves to the east of us. as a result, high pressure builds in, allowing for darker shades of orange to come into play. that is comfortable for your tuesday. as we get into wednesday, this is a look at san jose. we are already in the mid 80's thursday. that should be the warmest day with temperatures in the low 90's. we are certainly looking at a few records. back in 1989, we had a really high heat spike. maybe not records, but way warmer than we should be.
