>> building a better bay area. moving forward, finding solutions. this is abc 7 news. >> dedicating her life to protecting those who could be in harm's way. one bay area woman is calling for more action when it comes to eradicating landmines. good morning everybody. we have a lot to get to this morning. let's start with a quick look at the weather with lisa argen. lisa: starting up a little bit warmer in parts of the south bay and we are looking at temperatures in the 40's and it was a warm one yesterday. the numbers were well up into the 70's and even a few 80's as we look at satellite and radar composite. there are clouds to the north and we will have partly cloudy skies but otherwise upper 40's in dublin right now.

there is our warmer start, five to six degrees warmer for livermore. sunshine at 9:00. low to mid 60's bayside. upper 60's inland but the wind will kick up at the coast and it will be quite gusty. we will look at a week system tomorrow. we will talk about what that means for the rest of us coming up in a few minutes. liz: sacramento police are investigating a shooting with multiple victims. this is happening right now. the conditions are not known at this time. this happened in downtown sacramento, about two blocks from the state capital, just a couple blocks away from the -- center. gunfire is heard in the background. we are not showing videos right now but you can see there is the

capital in this video. we will keep you posted on any developments we get this morning. developing news from ukraine, officials say russian missiles hit critical infrastructure facilities in odessa. video shows plumes of smoke rising over the port city. russia's military claims the attack destroyed an oil refinery and three fuel depots which had been supplying fuel to nearby ukrainian troops. no casualties have been reported yet. officials say russian troops are retreating from much of the north. ukrainian forces have retaken much of the area around kyiv. russian troops have also abandoned a crucial airport, just six miles outside the capital. ukrainian president zelenskyy is calling on the west to send more weapons, fearing russia is gearing up for a more destructive battle in eastern ukraine. >> unfortunately, ukraine has not yet received enough

the israeli national army. liz: some of the bay area's best-known musicians are bent -- banding together for a benefit concert to help the people of ukraine. organizers them is the end of row white -- ian devereaux white. artists include the stone and great northern. the names might be big but this is a local restaurant's effort. >> everything we have have been donated by members of the community. over forney -- over 40 wineries have donated winds. people all over the community have donated their time and assets. liz: they will kick things off at 2:00 this afternoon. thousands of people are expected

to attend. the event is open to everyone. in the north bay, an artist is raising money to help those in ukraine. julia was born in the western part of the country. she sold her artwork with all proceeds going to the largest children's hospital in kyiv. >> i want them to buy art and every time they look at it, they know they did something good and maybe even saved somebody's life. liz: most of the art incorporates ukrainian influence. she says her art is an escape from the reality of the war. if you want to help, we have put together a list of verified groups and ngos. you can go to abc7news.com /takeaction. a homeless man who lives under a highway 101 overpass is suing the city. he says living in the government sanctioned encampment has caused him to have a series of medical problems. tim johns spoke to the man and

shares his story. tim: you will probably -- you probably wouldn't even know it was there but beneath this noisy underpass near fifth and mission is a city managed homeless encampment. it is where james heller lives. >> toxins, brake dust, which is extremely poisonous. tim: he claims after living at the site for months, he and other residents have had a series of health problems. >> ringing in my ears. we all have coughs. slowly manifesting health problems. we are not sure where it is going to go to, five years from now. tim: he says the conditions at the city encampments are unlivable. >> we are human beings. getting into homelessness is easy to do and it is almost impossible to get out of. tim: he says the powers that be

view him and others like him as a mere inconvenience. >> they've been getting away with this for so long that they probably did not pay much attention to it. tim: sandra fell officials declined to comment but his wife says she supports her husband's lawsuit. she tells us she hopes it will force the city to provide safer housing for them and the others who live here. >> whenever -- whatever we get out of it, we put back into but, to help people. tim: because the move is about more than just defending himself. it's about sticking up for others who he says can't stick up for themselves. >> most of them don't want to step out and be known, but at this point, somebody has to do it. liz: in the south bay, a deadly investigation is underway in san jose. this happened at a shopping plaza yesterday morning.

police say they do not have a suspect or motive. they are asking for information and they say a cash reward is available. in the east bay, tragic death of her beloved --. the falcon was seen with a new mate just in time for breeding season. the untagged mail was seen spending the night in her nest. he appeared to have an interest in incubating the eggs. it is rare for a falcon to find a new partner, especially after the death of a longtime mate. typically a nest would be left abandoned. let's get a check outside this morning. lisa: good morning everyone. there is a clear look at the city where temperatures are little cooler -- are a little cooler. yesterday we had 80's.

liz: here is a live look outside at the golden gate bridge. demand is growing across the bay area for a second covid vaccine booster shot. just days after the cds he gave approval for certain age groups to get the shot, vaccine clinics are seeing a lot of interest. cornell barnard has that story from the north bay. cornell: linda simone wasted no time getting her second booster shot because she has a lot of

living to catch up on with her family. >> i have three grandchildren, and i see them quite often. cornell: this former victoria's secret store is now a county vaccine clinic inside the northgate mall where most people are now looking for that fourth shot. >> i have risk factors, so i wanted to make sure i was covered. cornell: robert hancock just got his second booster. >> i'm ready to party now. cornell: on tuesday, the cdc recommended a second booster for those who are immunocompromised or over 50. kimberly and richard were waiting to get theirs. >> i want to be healthy and protect myself and protect others. >> i want to get the booster shot now. >> boosters are also happening here at the community clinics. for those eligible, the clinic recommends getting that first shot sooner than later instead of waiting for the next surge to

booster shots will no longer be required for facebook workers going to u.s. offices. boosters will still be strongly recommended. the percentage of cases reached record levels in england and wales, at the highest level since they were first tracked in april of 2020. canada lifted testing requirements for fully vaccinated visitors driving into the country. travelers will still need to fill out health information on a map run by the canadian government or online. house lawmakers voted in favor to federally decriminalize marijuana. this vote was 220-204. the bill would expunge the record of those convicted of nonviolent -- it would also authorize a sales tax on marijuana sales. the bill now heads to the senate.

minute drone lightning show -- lighting show. organizers are worried about fire risk posed by big fireworks. instead, 100 drones will put on a light show to choreographed music. they say foregoing a fireworks show makes things easier for pets and wildlife. a big change and even crazy that we are talking about july 4. this year is flying by. lisa: that is really cool. we are feeling like summer in part of this week but we are looking at temperatures coming down quite a bit. wind gets custody at the coast. it was kind of on the warm side yesterday. as we look at live doppler 7, we are in between cloud masses and up to the north, it is a big front that will visit parts of sonoma county.

a few clouds around, patchy fog around the central coast. it is 52 in oakland, 51 in hayward and fremont. it is milder in parts of the east and south bay. as we look at the highlights, partly cloudy this afternoon. more son around the -- more sun around the bay. we will see temperatures coming down monday. summerlike warm as we get towards the wednesday, thursday and even friday time. this is the middle of the day, but you can see we are sunny throughout the rest of the day. 5:00, a bit of cloud cover. monday looks thicker and that is because that system is to the north of us and that is an indication that there is a system moving by. it could bring a 10th of an inch of rain. otherwise we will break out into partly cloudy conditions, and

looking at your temperatures for monday, some clouds mixed in, notice some 50's at the shoreline. that is how much cooler it is going to be with the wind. otherwise we've got low 60's in richmond and numbers coming down in the inland valley. we get to that rebound on tuesday. still a nice day but it is wednesday when you notice the shading getting dark into the reds. obviously that indicates the big warm-up underway. high pressure is building in, and even the coast will be warming to near 70 and as we get into thursday, that is probably the warmest day when we will see 80's and even 90's but the good news is overnight lows will stay on the low side. by colors indicate the breeze. livermore up to 30 miles per hour. monday, still kind of breezy. highs today, with the wind at

michael: grocery store to gas prices, many of us have had to adjust our budgets just to keep up. this woman says she can no longer afford to pay for gas in the bridge toll to drive across the san mateo bridge to see her friends. >> that is how it has affected me. it has kept me from having to travel to certain places. michael: one area she has been able to save money is lunch and dinner. she had this lunch delivered to her at 50% off the regular price. >> this is way more affordable and just the right amount for me. michael: club feast is a relatively new food delivery service in the san francisco bay area. competitors charge restaurants commissions as well as tack on a delivery fee paid by the customer. >> how can we pivot that model in a way that can be more

yesterday was such a warm day, retaining some of that warmth and we are looking at a change today as the wind kicks up. 52 in oakland. anywhere from two to six degrees warmer. we are warming up through the 60's but some high clouds in the north bay. wind getting kind of peppy along the coast with temperatures staying in the 50's at the beaches and by the afternoon, a lot of sunshine with a few high clouds. we will continue to track the cool down for your monday in detail and talk about that heat up coming up. liz: we want to get back to that breaking news we brought you but the top of the hour. we are getting you details from police. six people have died from a shooting in downtown sacramento earlier this morning. at least nine others have been injured. the shooting happened downtown around two blocks from the state capital and just blocks from the golden one center.

other videos on social media show people running through the street as gunfire is heard in the background. police have not released any other details right now about the suspect or those nine people injured. at least 15 victims in this shooting in downtown sacramento. we will bring you more updates as they come in. this morning, the war in ukraine continues as russian troops scale back from kyiv. karina mitchell has the latest. karina: a senior ukrainian of -- senior ukrainian defense official says the entire capital city of kyiv has been liberated. president zelenskyy says there are more ukrainian flags in areas that had been -- that had been temporarily occupied. many russian forces are redeploying to eastern ukraine, setting up a potentially decisive battle in the donbass

region. military officials also say as russian forces leave, they are planting mines in homes, on streets and even under the dead. northwest of the capital, entire neighborhoods reduced to rubble. in the besieged southeast city of mariupol, the humanitarian crisis is growing. the red cross trying to get a calm vague -- convoy through on saturday. 2.4 million people have crossed the border seeking shelter from the war. 700,000 school-age children are among the millions seeking shelter in poland. liz: millions of ukrainians are now searching for a new life in neighboring countries. many families of school-age children has made it to poland. a lucky few have been able to get back in the classroom. one abc news reporter got to meet the kids in class. >> poland struggling to absorb

liz: experts suggest no more limiting job location other employers offer work from home options. california health officials are warning consumers of a neuro-virus outbreak from raw british columbian oysters. at least 34 people have become infected across the state. people reported illnesses from march 11 through march 19 from nine restaurants throughout california. canadian officials are investigating the source of the outbreak and the shutdown -- and have shut down multiple oyster farms in berdych columbia. helen kaepernick is back on the field. he showed off his arm in a spring exhibition in front of nfl scouts at halftime at a university of michigan spring game. kaepernick was invited to the big house by his coach who coached him for 49 -- coached him for the 49ers and he hopes this will provide an opportunity for a starting job. >> we want to make sure that we come out and show everyone i can still play, still throw it and
