return in a day or two. the red cross is helping the 40 to 50 people find a place to stay. do not know what caused the fire. kumasi: a man arrested with the mass shooting in sacramento is scheduled to appear today in court at 3:00 in the afternoon. he was taken into custody yesterday morning and booked as quote related suspect on charges of assault with a deadly weapon and being a convict carrying a loaded gun. he has not been arrested for homicide. martin has announced -- has an outstanding warrant and was convicted of aggravated assault in 2016. police say they are going through a vast amount of evidence. >> of the shell casings, we know we have at least two different calibers of ammunition that were used. kumasi: police recovered a handgun during a search at three homes and a stolen handgun at the shooting scene. this morning, we are learning more about the six victims in the shooting. reggie: here's a look at their names and five of their

pictures, they range in age from 21 to 57. several family members attended a vigil in sacramento last night as the community reflected on the tragedy, and another one that happened just five weeks ago. reporter: candles lit up the stark night as families consoled each other after six people were shot and killed in sacramento's downtown area. >> father, i think you, that you care for us -- i think you --thank you that you care for these families. reporter: prayers that hit too close to home to this community. >> tonight, we are here for them. reporter: five weeks ago, sacramento mourned the lives of four people killed at a church. now, they are back in three men and three women just minutes

after police say a fight broke out outside of several nightclubs and bars at 2:00 a.m. on sunday. >> this is the second mass shooting we have had in sacramento. reporter: a 38-year-old and father of three was the first victim to be identified. his cousin was with him, a 29-year-old. he was also killed. >> my cousin was gunned down, shot in the back. unacceptable. reporter: his family asking for change and accountability. >> i do not get to go kick it with my cousin tomorrow. most of my family does not get to kick it with him tomorrow. instead, we have to put our money together and plan a funeral. reporter: the mayor vowed to take action. >> people information of assault weapons and ghost guns and weapons that indiscriminately kill and injure, we will lift

with military assistance, humanitarian aid and economic support. jobina: france and germany are expelling dozens of russian diplomats and the french president is calling on the eu to consider sanctions against russian coal and oil. reggie: breaking news, elon musk has been appointed to twitter's board of directors. the company ceo made the announcement on twitter less than an hour ago. he says through conversations with musk, it became clear to executives he would bring great value to the board. it comes just 24 hours after he revealed he brought -- bought more than 9% stake in the san francisco based company. kumasi: your next override -- uber ride may be in a taxi. ryan curry is joining us live with more on what this could mean for you. reporter: good morning, this

could really change the outlook of the san francisco taxi business in and around the city. whatever happens from the board today could change the outlook and involve uber as a potential partner. it is all part of a pilot program that san francisco launched back in the early parts of the year in september to try to get more people to use taxis and eliminate the fear that usually comes with writing a taxi. this project originally partnered with flywheel to implement technology that allowed passengers to know the fair of a cab before getting into it. today, uber wants to become part of the program. if san francisco transportation board approves the amendment, you could then order a taxi through the uber app. they say they want to cut down on their own driver shortages as well as change the way people approach getting a taxi. it would normally be charged for a normal rate oven -- of aaron

kumasi: happening today, plan for a third casino in sonoma county is facing a new challenge. the board of supervisors will be voting on a symbolic resolution opposing the idea.

they opposed a resort in an unincorporated area near santa rosa. but five tribes are questioning their historical connection to sonoma county. they say ancestors are actually from 50 miles away in lake county. indian reservations are considered to be federal land, so the federal government will have the final say. reggie: part of building a better bay area is focusing on education. a san francisco unified students are getting a new lesson about the history of slavery in america through a new children's picture book called the 6019 project born on the water. the book tackles the tough topic of how africans were taken from their customs and traditions, enslaved, and route 2 america centuries ago. -- brought to america centuries ago. >> this was written with black children in mind to talk to them about their origin story into feel proud of the people that came before them. reggie: today, one of the

authors will read the book to students during an assembly. strict officials know the topic could be difficult for kids, so they say they will provide space for them to feel, process and respond. they hope opportunities like this can lead to racial healing and understanding. a mystery in one part of san francisco is baffling experts. kumasi: ocean beach and the great highway have the worst air quality in the city. look at the air map, there is one spot that is pretty bad. that is the area around 45th, according to the chronicle, analysis shows the matter levels in that area are the worst air quality readings in san francisco. many say the great highway should have some of the cleanest air because it is next to the ocean, but experts say it could be wastewater facilities that are creating an exceptional amount of pollution. reggie: what is old is popular again. music from the 1950's and up is

making a comeback. according to a new music industry report, it is because there's been an increase of gen x and boomers joining music streaming services. in 2021, streams of newly released music declined by 19 point 4%. streams of older music spiked 29.4%. it is the first time older music gained popularity in recent years. also, there is a growing interest in older music from younger generations. hm. hm. kumasi: what? reggie: not me, are you listening to older things? kumasi: i like older music. lisa: i've always liked the supremes. bayshore. kumasi: yesterday, my mom sent in t backyard, she lives in florida. there is a storm threat that is targeting several southern states and millions of americans. reggie: dangerous wind, large hail and possible tornadoes expected today. jobina is at the live desk with more. jobina: they started overnight and are heading east. this is video from texas, where radar indicated at least one tornado touched down, leaving behind a lot of damage. as rain started on the wind reached 60 miles per hour, forcing people to take cover. in mckinney, texas outside of dallas, at least four inches of rain fell. there were at least three water rescues. there are tornado watches in at least two states, and later this afternoon, there is a possibility of strong tornadoes from mississippi through georgia. reggie: a second arrest has been made in connection with the deadly mass shooting in sacramento. police say the 27-year-old is in

custody but is right now in the hospital, because he was injured in the shooting. he is the brother of the first person arrested. police say once he is recovered enough to be transferred to jail, he will be booked on charges for possessing a firearm and a machine gun. kumasi: gunderson high school in san jose is going to be open today following a stabbing on campus. it happened during a fight at the school yesterday. police say several students were involved and one student ended up stabbed. another was taken into custody. some parents came to the school after hearing about it. >> you worry about your own kids safety, such as checked in. >> it is crazy and said, kids need to know the consequences now will affect them forever. kumasi: the district says it is working with police to investigate. reggie: three officers will now face charges for shooting and killing a man in june 2020. video captured the incident in oakland.

officers say they opened fire during a traffic stop after he rammed their cruisers in an effort to get away in a stolen car. his pregnant girlfriend was in the passenger seat and was wounded. his death sparked numerous protests. the alameda county district attorney's office released a report saying there is not enough evidence to bring charges. however, the da decision makes way for a federal lawsuit the family filed. it has been delayed by the investigation. kumasi: congress reached a deal to provide $10 billion in additional funding to fight covid-19. half of the money will go toward developing treatments, the package does not include any global aid. the u.k. is dealing with a new variant xe, a combination of omicron edit subvariant. health experts say that variant type crops up and disappears on its own. the entire city of shanghai is on lockdown as all of the residents are undergoing testing.

the incident is asked to call oakland police. reggie: new evidence from a recent stanford study suggests gun ownership may increase the chances of death by homicide. jobina's of the live desk with more. jobina: researchers say the newly released 12 year study by stanford shows the popular notion that guns make you safer is not true. researchers looked at over 17 million californians and found people living with a handgun owner were seven times more likely to be shot to death by a spouse or partner. most of those victims, 84% of them, were women. they lead expert involved in the study called for findings pretty shocking, i think all of us can agree. the study found no evidence living with a gun owner protected the non-gun owner from being killed by a stranger. kumasi: thank you.

today, one state lawmaker will take the first of to advance a bill to deter illegal weapons. a state senator of l.a. is behind the bill, it would allow private citizens to sue anyone who distributes illegal assault weapons, parts that can be used to build weapons, or guns without serial numbers. the penalty would be at least $10,000 for each weapon, plus attorney fees. reggie: now for the morning many report, elon musk is now on twitter's board of directors. it comes just a day after revealing his huge stake in twitter. he is already shaking things up, asking his 80 million twitter followers in a poll if it is time for an edit button. there it is. we talked about this yesterday during hot topics. musk disclosed a nine point 2% stake in the social media company. >> he does not put one toe in the water, this is the start of what is going to be of long-term soap opera between twitter and elon musk. reggie: he has been a vocal
