thursday's deadly hit and run moments after the collision. he is seen turning onto east san jose. >> he tried driving into my street in order to amanda: flee faster. amanda:amanda: seconds later, cameras captured the driver speeding off and out of the cul-de-sac away from the scene where he is believed to have hit two wom how can you take innocet lives and flee? it is very inconsiderate. it is ultimately a tragedy. amanda: just before 6:30, two women were walking on this painted crossword along oakton court when the red truck hit them and took off. as of friday evening, the driver remained at large. >> that could've been any of our family members. amanda: neighbors say the victims were related, a neighbor

and her adult daughter. paul let lives across the street from the women and is familiar with their evening strolls. >> the fact that yesterday, their daily activity ended up with them deceased is insane. amanda: neighbors shared outrage, feeling the safety of east san jose residence is not being prioritized. >> i am infuriated at the fact that this is not the first time it has happened, and as long as there is not any safety infrastructure for pedestrians, this will keep continuing. amanda: but the city said there is a safety improvements project in the works that would bring flashing beacons and more to this crossing. they are measures expected to be completed by fall of 2023. >> it seems we cannot build our

safety improvements fast enough. amanda: the san jose department of transportation says between 2016 and 2020 there were three crashes at this intersection resulting in two minor injuries. he says across the city, there have never been this many traffic a talladega at this point in the year. -- fatalities at this point in the year. thursday marked san jose's 24th fatal traffic accident this year. i am amanda del castillo, abc7news. dan: here's one more look at the truck san jose police are looking for. they released these photos. call the number on your screen if you have any information. a cash reward is being offered. ama: this weekend could get windy.

police are putting officers on the streets this weekend after a series of shootings. the first happened during a robbery on lakeshore avenue. there were two more shootings thursday night, one on mandela parkway and the other on east 12th street. we know it was a 33-year-old man shot on wednesday night. dion lin spoke with those who knew him. >> i found out yesterday morning at about 7:00. i lost him. sorry. it's okay. i lost him. i fell to the floor. dion: it will take time before what happened to her cousin at lake merritt will make any sense. >> it still doesn't feel real. dion: devon was a father and had a love of music, fashion and the

great outdoors. he and his partner meredith were taking a walk when he was shot and killed in a robbery attempt for what meredith told me was a louis vuitton bag. >> i was just so devastated by the news, and i didn't know how to process it. dion: melanie says devon fell in love with the bay area on a road trip across the country, but never let the distance get in the way of their tightknit relationship or taking care of others. >> he was incredibly generous, loving, caring. he would give me the shirt off his back. sorry. dion: his passing marks the third deadly shooting in the area since november and the city us 31st of 2022. oaklands police chief held a press conference, promising more officers, a sentiment echoed the

city council president. what are you asking for after his passing? >> the truth is that there needs to be some sort of harsher punishment for gun violence. dion: as devon's family raises money for funeral expenses and his daughter's education, they remind anyone watching, while the story will come and go, there needs to be lasting change. >> the rest of my life i have to spend without someone i care about, these people didn't just take a life. they took a part of all of our hearts. dion: dion, abc7news. ama: a former richmond teacher is facing more than two dozen counts of child molestation. she is accused of sex acts with minors, inappropriate touching and sharing graphic photos. she was a biology teacher.

ama: at least 50 people are dead and close to 100 others are injured after a russian missile attack on a crowded train station in ukraine. thousands of people were trying to escape. this is the deadliest attack on civilians since the war started. nate moved works for world central kitchen. he was trying to help people escape. >> there were individuals who burned alive in these cars. these were innocent women and children and grandmothers trying to evacuate, and they were the target. ama: ukrainian president volodymyr zelenskyy said russia

should face charges in a war crimes tribunal. dan: thousands of ukrainians are fleeing to mexico in the hope they will be able to find refuge in the united states. an unlikely group of volunteers is working tirelessly to help provide food, shelter and transportation to the hundreds of evacuees arriving in tijuana. tara campbell got an inside look at those efforts from a bay area woman on the front lines. tara: this is the scene at the airport in tijuana mexico, creating a list of those hoping to enter the u.s. medically vulnerable people here.

we have a 10 day old baby. volunteers are working around-the-clock, lucky to get a few hours of sleep. >> chasing our tail trying to make sure that these people have a place to sleep that is decently safe and have food. tara: on their own, there are no nonprofits, just people wanting to help. >> a lot of people have put our jobs on hold. tara: in a couple of weeks, they've managed to come up the system not only for a number of people, but providing food, shelter and transportation. >> the alternative is thousands of people sitting at the border and unsanitary conditions for many days. tara: with the -- working with the government in tijuana, they secured this recreational

facility, providing some sense of security amid the ongoing uncertainty. >> i'm hoping the government steps up. tara: the u.s. is processing roughly 500 refugees per day, say volunteers, allowing them in temporarily. as for how long this band of volunteers can keep it up, julia is not so sure. tara: tara campbell, abc7news. ama: new developments with a deadly mass shooting in sacramento. police have doubled the number of officers tonight and tomorrow night. they've increased the number of gang enforcement officers. rival gangs were involved in the shootout last weekend that left six people dead and 12 injured. two men have been arrested in connection with the shooting. police say there were at least five gunmen involved.

dan: a celebration in our nations capital for a history making judge. president biden: the next associate justice of the supreme court, the honorable ketanji brown jackson. [applause] dan: justice ketanji brown jackson will be the first black woman in history to serve on the u.s. supreme court. >> it has taken 232 years and one hundred 15 prior appointments for a black woman to be selected to serve on the supreme court of the united states. but we've made it. elevated until justice until her mentor stephen breyer officially retires from court this summer. her confirmation means the court will have four women on the bench, and for the first time, white men will be in the
