joining us. i'm dion limb notice flames swept through parts of the port of benicia this afternoon spewing massive dark smoke clouds into the sky crews right now still at the scene. so is abc 7 news reporter cornell bernard who just spoke with crews there and cornell. give us the very latest. it's just incredible side here. this is something we have been watching all day long this fire continues to burn here at the port of benicia the fire burning timbers underneath the dock and still spreading burning several hundred yards from where it started just before noon today the fire department believes. this fire could be burning for a long time. a massive fire burning at the port of benicia a dock fully engulfed thick black smoke filling the air fire engines and fire boats attacking the inferno from all sides fire crews from

across solano county race to the scene the fire began just before noon for hours later. it was still burning watch as part of the dock. collapses into the water ships anchored at the port were moved away for safety sake into the carquinas straits including this oil tanker smoke from the fire could be seen for miles. but i think of this fire, this is crazy. it's scary because they offload a lot of the gas and oil there longshoreman working at the port. we're told to leave. how are you feeling right now? the fire was burning adjacent to a historic park, i guess so what innovator for my friend the venue was ordered evacuated the wedding? already looking for a backup plan. so what's the plan? what's the plan right now at this point? we're just sending all the guests to another location. we'll regroup see if we can hold the wedding at apart a house

trying to extinguish the creosote soaked wood burning on the pier really the only access to the underneath of the peers through fireboats on the water side. we can't can't access it by foot or by. engines from the shoreline and depending on tide fire boats can get up underneath there. they've got nozzles that shoot down low. now a total of six fire boats from several bay area agencies have been dispatched to fight the fire despite that billowing smoke the winds have actually been favorable to firefighters because it is blowing from the west towards the east that is in the direction away from homes. well happening now solano county is an area currently under a red flag warning because of those strong wind gusts. i guess the direction plays a really big role in this so that is the good news. that is the good news. the wind direction is helpful, but the wind does not helpful because the wind speed is quite strong. thus the red flag warning for high fire danger. you can see all around the bay area right now down the winds are quite brisk a gusty and some spots especially near the coast

and in the higher elevations, let's be more specific it take a look at solano county where we have the fire burning right now in red flag warning is in effect for the entire county until 5 pm. tomorrow wind gusts will be around 50 miles per hour at peak relative humidity is very low and the steady wins are 15 to 30 miles per hour. so this will certainly hamper the fire containment effort to some extent and we have a wind advisory in effect for all the hills of the north bay and the east bay until 3 pm. tomorrow winds will be out of the north that out of the yes out of the north at 20 to 30 miles per hour gusting 50 to 60 miles per hour over the higher elevations. there's a possibility of down trees and power lines. so we'll keep watching this for you. and of course i'll have the full accuweather forecast a little bit. yeah watching it very closely. yeah sponsor. thanks. winds and dry vegetation prompted a red flag warning solano county and parts of the sacramento valley the warning went into effect at five this morning through 5 pm on seasonably warm temperatures have firefighters on high alert

series of deadly shootings earlier this week. the police department says officers will focus on violent crimes and illegal side show enforcement our media partner the mercury news reports across oakland five men were wounded in unrelated shootings friday night into early saturday. everyone is expected to survive. there will also be more officers on the streets this weekend in sacramento the police department there says it has doubled the number of police in the downtown area. they've also increased the number of gang enforcement officers investigators say rival gangs were involved in the shootout last weekend that left six people dead and 12 others injured so far to men have been arrested in connection with that shooting and a third was arrested near the scene for a weapons charge. developing news now on the war in ukraine british prime minister boris johnson met with ukrainian president vladimir. zelensky abc news reporter corina. mitchell tells us the meeting ended with a new pledge of support.

at least 50 people are dead and more than 100 hurt after the single deadliest attack on civilians since russia invaded in ukraine a missile hitting a train station in eastern ukraine where thousands had gathered trying to flee, ukrainian. officials say russia was behind the attack. the region's governor said quote the enemy clearly knew it is a rail station and did it to prevent people from leaving the region during individuals that had burned alive in these cars. these were innocent women and children and grandmothers trying to evacuate on trains and they were the target of this attack russia denies. it was behind the bloodshed but the pentagon is adamant. this was their doing friday the president of the european a mission visited butcher with top ukrainian officials ukraine says russian troops killed hundreds of civilians there. she appeared visibly moved when they saw a mass grave later the eu's president gave ukrainian

want to get back to that breaking news coming out of benicia. you can see there on your screen from the vantage point of sky. smoke still billowing out of a burning wooden dock. this is at the port of benicia now a press conference wrapped just moments ago where we did learn from the fire chief that the firefight is happening mostly on the water there. now the good news is there are no injuries now despite the smoke winds are actually favorable to firefighters that is because the wind is blowing away from homes in the area. we will get you back to this breaking news and follow it very closely throughout the next evening. moving on an iconic family restaurant in san francisco is permanently closing its doors

after 97 years in the business alioto's restaurant known for their sicilian seafood on fisherman's wharf was one of the city's oldest family owned restaurants representatives for the alioto family ended their 66 year long lease early. that's what they tell us. the restaurant has not reopened its doors after the shutdown of the pandemic that restaurant started as a stand back in 1925 by nunzio aliotto senior his children have since expanded to its location in 1938. right now a nine-member task force is trying to beat an end-of-day goal of redrawing san francisco's districts that process has been controversial and chock-full of drama controversy and accusations some residents and community leaders have even likened the proposals to gerrymandering others. say new district lines. do not keep san francisco neighborhoods together many of the complex social issues.

high fire danger in effect until 5:00 pm tomorrow for solano county. we're going to be generally out of the north at 15 to 30 miles per hour with gusts. 50 miles per hour very low relative humidity fires, of course get spread rapidly under those conditions on a wind advisory is in effect for the hills and mountains of the north bay and the east bay until 3 pm tomorrow once again gusts up to 50 60 miles per hour with the possibility of downed tree limbs and maybe some power outages possibly. wins right now or gusting up to about 26 miles per hour and some coastal areas 31 mile per hour gusts right now down at san jose and those winds are increasing over the hills as well. so we'll see even windier conditions perhaps tomorrow and it's cooler than it was yesterday this time by about 40 degrees at novato in san francisco eight degrees cooler in concord. so all around the bay area. it's been cooling down along with that increasing winds. here's a view from social tower looking out over san francisco 61 degrees in the city right now 65 at oakland mountain view. 472 and both san jose and santa clara 55 at half moon bay. mainly blue sky over the golden
