least another school year. officials initially said this mandate could be implemented in a matter of months. amy hollyfield joins us live in walnut creek with more on this change. amy: remember, students were going to have to be vaccinated by july to be able to come here to school. all of those who are 12 and older. now, they have been given another year. the earliest the covid vaccine requirement will now go into effect for students is july of 2023. state health officials say they postponed the deadline to give everyone more time to successfully implement the vaccine requirement. governor newsom had announced in october that the state would require all students over the age of 12 to be vaccinated, making california the first state to put a requirement in place for students. state officials hope to see kids get vaccinated. saying the california department of public health strongly encourages all eligible californians, including

skiers and snowboarders at some northern california resorts. some areas have seen at least eight inches of snow. officials from calfire say don't expect it to do much to delay fire season. >> we are not getting enough moisture and snowpack to make a significant difference. kumasi: fire officials say the wet spring conditions so far just are not delivering enough moisture to offset wildfire fuel. that means that thousands of acres of forest are bone dry from years of drought. reggie: new information on when california kids need to be vaccinated to stay in school and it's pushed back to later then you may have expected. amy hollyfield is here with the new deadline. amy: it has been pushed back for a year, reggie. 74% of california kids age 12 to 17 have been vaccinated. the other 26%, they just got another year for they are going to be required to get that vaccine to be able to attend

amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. reggie: the fda is authorizing mobile breathalyzer screening devices for covid-19. inspect ir systems provided this video of its testing unit. become but he says the device analyzes breath to look for specific chemistry with active viral infection of covid-19. results come back in less than three minutes. the company says a positive result should be confirmed with a pcr tests. kumasi: now to the latest in the shooting in new york city. his attorney says it is too early to jump to conclusions. jobina: frank james is facing a terrorism related charge after authorities say he opened fire more than 30 times in a crowded subway car on tuesday morning. james went before a federal judge yesterday in brooklyn who sided with prosecutor's argument that he should be held without bail. ross acute is called the attack
