the 50's. the wind switches to the west as the rain showers exit in the next couple of hours. we are holding onto the level 1 system. north bay is quiet with partly sunny conditions. the system had had brief heavy downpours but that is behind us, scattered showers with numbers climbing with sun. well into the 60's and still breezy with wind 15 to 20 miles an hour and then we get the sea breeze. a little hazy in san francisco with a mixture of light rain and sun towards partly cloudy at noon and a sunny afternoon with the level 1 system quieting down with more rain chances for the week ahead. liz: thank you. let us start with the latest on the pandemic. the ba.2 variant is a consideration for many people gathering this weekend. cases are edging up with the state reporting over 7600 new

cases as of friday. the new positivity rate is at 2.1%, an increase of half a percent from last week. hospitalizations have been trending downward. around the bay area we are finding that families are ready to gather for the e-store -- easter and passover holidays. here is tara campbell. tara: the mask is the only real indicator of a pandemic, people packing into san francisco international airport ready to travel. tell me how you feel to be here at the airport going for a trip? >> nervous. tara: while there was some apprehension the majority of people were eager to get going. >> i feel great and it is nice to get out after the covid situation. tara: this family on their way to hawaii. their 16-year-old daughter says

having to give up their homes so their apartments can be used as temporary quarantine facilities. police decked and protective gear forcibly breaking up the protest. covid lockdown rules continuing for a third week in china's largest city as it records 20,000 daily cases and no officially reported deaths. residents and ex-pats getting caught up in a system where every covid positive person is sent to a quarantine facility. he sent videos from the facility where he stayed for six days. >> there are no showers so people are forced to use the sinks to wash their bodies. brit: showing us the cramped conditions. >> everyone is in very close contact with each other, and of course as you can imagine there is absolutely no privacy. brit: the strict measures turning this financial hub into a ghost city. in the united states covid is on

the rise again. 31 states and territories has seen a rise -- have seen a rise in infection rates. in boston, officials warn of increasing cases and hospitalizations as the city prepares for its first full-scale marathon. >> if you are sick stale -- stay home and isolate. brit: positivity rates are over 6% with people between the ages of 20 and 30 making up the largest group of those infected while in california schools not implementing vaccine mandates until july 2023. >> we are almost at the lowest number of covid patients that we have had at any point in the pandemic, nearly as low as last summer before the delta surge. brit: the rise is a reminder that this pandemic is not over yet while in china the cycles of lockdown continue with no end in sight. liz: you can stay up-to-date by heading to abc7news.com

/coronavirus where you can get to all of -- all of the answers to all of your covid questions. new details on a brazen armed robbery near downtown palo alto. two subjects robbed a man at gunpoint while the child low -- while the child watched from inside the car. the suspect stole the man's watch. the robbery happened at 615 time. the suspects were in a two door honda accord stolen from oakland. the child remained inside the car and was not hurt. sky 7 was over daly city as a dramatic rescue played out after a man got stuck on the cliff. this started before 6:00 on friday. a rescuer used a rope to rappel down the cliff to reach the person who had gotten trapped. after attaching safety gear it was a long way back up, nearly 500 feet. the man was not hurt and it is not clear how he got stranded. despite the spring rains we have

seen firefighters are saying that fire season is coming fast. cal fire is getting a jump hiring back seasonal firefighters earlier. cornell barnard got exclusive access to a training academy where firefighters are gearing up for what could be a tough season. this is a story you will only see on abc 7. >> make sure it is a good line. all ppe will be down and worn. >> make sure you have a couple of clamps. >> the fire is through the gate, let us go. cornell: the training is beyond intense. >> 100 feet in. cornell: most of these firefighters have been through the training academy before, but it never gets easier. how hard is that? >> pretty hard. it is a lot easier without 110 degree weather and fire encroaching on us. cornell: 105 firefighters are back on the job at the seven

noticed an uptick of street vendors. luz: before the pandemic he was a construction worker and now this is his new source of income. he is one of dozens of vendors who set ups drop -- he set up shop in the mist -- in the midst us -- mission district. how much do you pay for these things? you pay seven dollars for them, and sell them for nine dollars. he buys his merchandise at the flea market and slightly marks up the price making anywhere between $.50 to two dollars an item. do you know of any of them are stolen? you do not know, you just buy them at the flea market. he says he would never steal and he bought everything you see here, although he does not ask where they are coming from. he pays the bills and the rest he sends to his kids in mexico, one is going to college and the other one is in high school.

lately he says that business has been difficult. two years ago how many vendors were out here? like six? now? 20. watching everything from afar is diana medina who opened up this jewelry store 14 years ago and she used to be a street vendor and understands the struggle. you do not mind competition, you want it to be fair. she wants them to have permit, many who with -- we spoke to today would like that. we walked down the block to speak to susanna rojas, the executive director director of the cultural district. they are signing up vendors to a program introduced by this suit -- by her supervisor which would require street vendors to have permits starting next month. >> after may 7 if someone cannot prove whether items come from,

they will be confiscated, and then they will be asked to move. luz: proof of purchase is complicated. >> the problem is that they go to the flea market and they get it legally they do not give them any receipts so they would not be able to prove where they got the items from. luz: so far 22 vendors have signed up in the plan is to spread them out throughout the mission district. and, assign specific areas for the vendors to work. in the newsroom, abc7news. liz: the warriors will play their first playoff game and this is video from the staff placing the gold blooded playoff t-shirts for the fans. this will be the first playoff game in san francisco since 1964. if you are not going to the chase center you can watch it on abc 7 beginning at 5:00 p.m. and tip-off is at 5:30 here on abc 7

that started at 2:00 in the morning and where it was raining longer it picked up better amounts with scattered showers on the peninsula. this is what we like to see. the snow that allows this to continue through the early afternoon. cloud cover and a few breaks. 66 in oakland and mountain view. check out this view. 54 santa cruz with spotty showers through noon and you can see a neat picture. 54 livermore and some sun out by the delta at 59. visibility down to two miles half moon bay and 2.5 miles with the shower in livermore and a live look at the exploratorium camera where you can see that it is gray. the rain and wind is winding down writer this afternoon and for easter but chilly tomorrow. two more storms headed our way but through the next few hours

amanda: it is gain on -- game on at the convention center for genders -- for genesis 8. it signals a long-awaited comeback. the event is billed as the largest community run super smash brothers tournament in the world. >> we started in 2009 in a barn in the contra costa county fairgrounds because it was the only place we could figure out where to put 600 people that came to our first event. amanda: from 600 to 5000 people descending on san jose friday. it is a reason to bring back convention center staff after two years of canceled events. reconnecting people with shared interests in person. after the day's battles, visitors will venture off into downtown san jose for the economic boost.

when the law changed the sports industry did not change fast enough. julian glover takes us to the east bay company dedicated to dressing women on the move. >> once title ix came we were off of the sidelines and onto the field. julian: she play basketball, tennis, and lacrosse. >> i was the first generation of girls and women to grow up with title ix being in effect which meant i got to play a lot of sports. my big start -- but -- my big sister four years older did not. julian: being an athlete in the 80's was far from glamorous for women. >> we are packed -- practicing in the brat -- in the backpack -- practice lots. we have permission to play, but we do not have sneakers, wearing like last year's boy's varsity basketball uniforms. julian: it is the amendment that was shortened to title ix which created women sports in spools

and schools and colleges, but girls and women struggled to find proper gear to support a generation of athletes. >> my buddy had to buy her shoes in the little boys departments. julian: shortly after graduating and moving west, she had the idea to start her own women's apparel and sporting goods company named after the act that gave her and millions of other girls permission to play. >> title ix the legislation is foundational. it is the without which not for my entire life. all of a sudden i am post-collegiate and i have nowhere to find year and i have all of these friends that are the same way and i was the only one that ended up starting out my own business and building a company that would serve these women athletes. julian: it started in this garage in 1989. >> there was no lululemon, footlocker for her.

there was nothing. julian: she sent out 30,000 mail-order catalogs and only 11 orders came in but there is a clear item. >> most women, the single most appease -- piece of sports equipment was sports bra, and so sports bras became the foundation of what turned out to be a pretty fit business. julian: today she says it is a 100 million dollar privately owned company. it is headquartered in emeryville with 300 employees, mostly women. >> we are supportive of each other and we love each other and being able to sweat and play together helps us amend relationships. >> we are going to go -- to go squat to push cake. julian: a core value along with camaraderie which offers a daily teamwork out. in 33 years title ix grew to 17 retail locations with four in the bay area. the flagship is on 4th street. >> when women come in they tell

us their stories about title ix and how it affected their lives and the meaning of title ix to them. julian: the meaning of that law is literally written on the walls. you will find probes -- quotes from shero and the wall of difficult women. >> it is not just quotes on the wall, it is how everybody leads. we are committed to women owning, risking, and leaving. >> i have a concept and we can bring it forward and we take it and run with it. julian: title ix is dedicated to uplifting women and elevating issues. the company recently made headlines for donating $1 million to the u.s. women's soccer team in its fight for equal pay. the u.s. soccer federation settled earlier and agreed to pay men and women at rate going forward. a leveling of the playing field that she hopes to see more of. >> my goal is that if we are

we have had some sun by the delta in the low 60's. 59 in concord with 54, livermore. 2.5 miles along the peninsula and two miles at hayward. a pretty shot where you can see the sun breaking into the city. the rain is winding down, bright and sunny for easter, a chilly start with temperatures 50 degrees cooler. i am looking at two more storm systems headed our way. there is a look at the next hour with spotty showers from pleasanton to pescadero and some sun in the north bay where it will be sunny first. into the afternoon the clouds break away and we are looking at a lot of sun. a quarter of an inch in livermore, above one third of an inch in castro val valley and at that towards fremont. half an inch from redwood city and theown in the south bay with over a quarter of an inch in san francisco.

a system on tuesday that lasts and strengthens towards wednesday and thursday with an inch and a half potentially by friday in santa rosa. i only picked up a quarter to a third of an inch but that sys fd give san francisco the better of three quarters of an inch. here is a look at the highs where temperatures will be in the upper 50's, cool and breezy with wind out of the west from san francisco to the coastline. otherwise, 62, oakland. mid-60's out towards our east bay. our level 1 system, wet and windy for the next hour or two east and south but otherwise winding down and we will look for a sunny afternoon. tomorrow we start out chilly and then nice and bright. mid 60's around the bay. upper 50's co-side. monday night showers and a level 1 system tuesday through thursday and this will be like
