earlier today and shares their story. >> what was supposed to be a fun family trip turned into a nightmare tuesday afternoon for robin pierce, his husband neil, and their children. the couple was hours into an amtrak train journey from los angeles to the bay area when suddenly another passenger came up to the couple and began screaming at their kids. >> the first thing he said was remember what i told you. marriage is between a man and a woman and these people have stolen you. they are not your parents, they are pedophiles. reporter: the couple says they were shocked and horrified. pierce's husband jumped up to separate the man from his kids. >> when you are a parent and you feel like your kids are threatened, you become kind of fearless. reporter: unaware if the man had some type of weapon, pierce said he took his children to a different train car. the kids he said were physically shaken.

>> they were both just sobbing. tears down their faces. my son was kind of frozen, my daughter was yelling why is this happening. reporter: when the train stopped, employees told the unidentified man he had to leave. a request he refused until santa clara county sheriffs's deputies were called for backup. >> he had been yelling i will die before i get off this train. you will have to kill me. reporter: the couple has said while this is not the first time they have experienced discrimination, this issue was the most distressing. but despite the attack the couple says they are determined to continue living their lives as normal, speaking out for others who cannot speak out for themselves. >> they want us to be afraid, so as scary as it is, we cannot let them win. we are just not going to let them drive us out of the public discourse.

>> in the east bay it is a race against time to find the person caught on camera taking a newborn goat. home security camera captured the person who walks up to go to helping clear of the hillside of grass. the suspect snatches that baby goat and walks off, leaving her mother watching on that hillside. the person hops into a waiting gray sedan and drives off. the owner of the company says she is in disbelief believing the goat napping may have been some cruel prank. >> it is very unkind. the baby goat needs its mother. the mama is still very sad. she is heartbroken looking for her kid. >> the owner tells us it is a race against time to find the goat and save her life.

newborn goats typically do not survive without being by the side of their mothers. police tonight are also investigating. the newly purchased home bought by the university of california for its president has been targeted by vandals. the home is covered with tarps because uc berkeley police say it was vandalized sometime friday night or saturday morning. the historic home sits on claremont boulevard in berkeley. the $6.5 million house was purchased in december. uc officials spent more than a decade renting homes for the system president to live in. no arrests have been made. for the first time since 2019, easter sunday felt a lot like easter sunday. about 100,000 people attended easter mass in st. peter's

tsa says 2.3 million people past through checkpoints on friday, a big getaway day, almost the same number who flew the same day in 2019. travelers are taking to the skies despite soaring airfare up 40% since the beginning of the year, only expect to get pricier. police are investigating an unusual -- in brentwood. attractor was used during the break-in attempt -- a tractor was used during the break-in attempt found near a bank of america branch. they believe it was stolen from a construction site. >> we cannot live safely in this community. people work so hard, why are they stealing stuff? >> no cash was taken. a similar break-in also in brentwood happened a month ago.

>> covid positivity rates have slightly risen in california, as have cases. doctors say there is good news, too. . worldwide death rates are at the lowest level since the pandemic started. all eyes are on this graph that shows deaths per million people worldwide. the good news is you can see they are currently at the lowest number ever in that category. california covid death rates are also some of the lowest we have seen since the start of the pandemic. >> estimates for 60% to 70% of our operation.

we are just hours away from a one-day strike organized by 8000 registered nurses and other health care workers for sutter health. workers will walk off the job tomorrow to protest ongoing contract negotiations. the california nurses association says sutter is not meeting their demands on covid safety and staffing. sutter calls the 24 hour strike disruptive. they plan on bringing in contracted replacement workers during the strike. a federal mediator has joined talks between the two sides. a san francisco chinatown favorite is closing its doors after nearly three decades in business. the family-owned washington bakery and restaurant posted on instagram that it is shutting down. the final day of business will be april 23rd. the café is famous for the pineapple buns and other hong kong cuisine. no reason was given for the closure.

tomorrow is the 160th anniversary of the 1906 earthquake -- the 116th anniversary of the 1906 earthquake. every year a moment of silence is observed at 5:11 am to remember those who lost their lives in the 7.8 magnitude quake. it is followed by 30 seconds of fire engine sirens at 5:12. the exact moment the earthquake hit. the fountain served as a meeting point following the quake and the fire. joined now by spencer christian, it is something to see that image every year. >> it is. i cannot imagine what that quake was like. i was on assignment at the world series in 1989 and i still have earthquake anxiety as a resident of the bay area. >> so many of us do. i think there is also concern this week about possible rain showers.

columbia, south carolina. a fight inside the shopping center led to gunfire. nine people were shot and five others were hurt. a sheriff's deputies body camera shows the moment a clear lake native who was reported missing in 2019 is found. that is connor jack oswald being taken to sheriff's headquarters in a neighborhood city -- a neighborhood area outside park city, utah. oswald has autism and told deputies he has spent the last few years living in utah and nevada. fingerprint scan linked oswald to a missing child report in a national database. his family relocated to idaho. they were thrilled to get this good news. michigan parents are fuming after their kindergartners shared a bottle of tequila during snack time last week

>> 144 million of us are facing a monday deadline to file our taxes. the last minute frenzy is a time when cyber criminals target people with scams. to steal passwords and other country -- confidential information. david louis looks at what thieves are after and what we can do to protect ourselves. >> as pressure mounts, cyber criminals are stepping up to take advantage. they will send out emails appearing to be from the irs seeking personal data or a text message with attachments or links. linea manages solutions. >> you are in a hurry, you want to get your taxes done.

they will be sending you emails were trying to target you to get you to click and give up information. after you have submitted your taxes, you want your money back. they will be focused on sending you emails to try to trick you into giving up your information to rewrite your tax return, and they will be trying to trick you saying i will give you your money back faster if you sign up for this. reporter: once you have fallen for the scam there is no easy fix. he recommends changing your password immediately and using two factor authentication. that is when you need to enter a second password, usually numbers texted to you before you can log in. there are concerns russia might be stepping up attacks on american citizens in retaliation for sanctions over the war in ukraine. >> they take the resources they were using to steal money from u.s. citizens and they are moving that now to maybe try to
