patricia was a mother of 2. her sister said her sister was arguing with her husband and left in the middle of the night. she would have been approximately 45 years old at the time she was killed. gloria white has been wondering what happened to her sister, patricia. and today she's finally getting some closure. >> the detective came to my house and first thing i knew -- and it's hard not having anything to hold on to. >> in 1993 the body of a woman dressed in blue was found on the side of highway 152 near gilroy. she had been sexually assaulted and her body left. for decades the sheriff office investigators tried to identify her. in oregon her family never stopped looking. >> we've just been holding hope

she would be alive. >> the happy face killer sent a letter to the district attorney office admitting to the crime. a year later he pleaded guilty to the killing but the woman's identity was unknown until now. >> when we first looked at it we thought it will be too hard to solve this one. we might not be able to make it happen. but then thanks to the partnership of that law enforcement agency they were so helpful and encouraging people to upload and that helped us get one step closer until we found the candidate. >> karen binder with the dna dough project was one of the team leads that sorted through dozens of matches to identify patricia that was approximately 45 years old when she was killed. >> i hope it gives patricia some of her dignity back to have her name. >> as gloria finds peace knowing what happened to her sister she

hopes detectives will solve another mystery. >> af daughter that disappeared too. about the same time. a little before that and we never heard anything. but when i talked to the detective in california she knew marty's name. she knows they've been looking for her. but they never had anything to go on. >> the happy face killer was a truck driver 245 killed multiple women across the country. he is serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole in oregon. >> a man that spent more than 30 years in jail for a murder in san francisco has officially been cleared of that crime. he was exonerated in san francisco superior court today. he was arrested for the shooting death of felix. it has been proven that he was actually killed by a mutual

acquaintance of both men. police relied on rumours to target syria and coerced another man to falsely name syria as the gunman. his exoneration is the first by the innocence commission. >> he had the patience to believe justice would one day be served. >> his exoneration comes 32 years to the day after he was arrested for the crime. >> and oakland artist is calling attention to a popular shooting target dummy that she says resembles a blackman. there is a contract to sell the dummy to federal agencies and now launched a petition demanding they stop. >> tracy brown says she was

searching for videos. i knew they are not shooting -- >> even though the dummy is painted white the facial features are those of a black person. >> the only reason it's painted white is you need to be able to see where the shots land when you are shooting at it. but it is typically a black man that is not deniable. >>ation shocked as brown was she was shocked that the company that makes the company has a contract with the u.s. general services commission. the dummy is sold on a federal government website and available for purpose by other federal agencies. >> there is a long-standing history of violence against black people and the black body that this type of thing perpetuates which makes it all the more problematic that our government is using our money to buy them. >> brown has launched a petition asking the gsa to remove the

dummy from their catalogue. a spokesperson says we've just been made aware of the petition and committed to reviewing this matter thoroughly. they are committed to advancing racial equity and we will follow up when we have more information. >> we called the company behind the dummy which operates as rubber dummies.com. they denied an interview but the c.e.o.'s daughter told us the concerns are ridiculous and black people shoot at dummy all day every day. c.e.o. defended his target saying it was not his intention to make it look like a black man. still, he continues to sell it. meantime, brown has turned the rubber dummy into a piece of art on display of the stop in oakland. she says it represents the dehumanization of black men. >> new details tonight on mum fied body found inside a wall at oakland kaiser convention. they identified the body as of a

42-year-old. he was last seen alive in august 2020. officials traced a serial number found in a metal plate on his ankle. surgeons implanted that device after he was hurt in an altercation with police. his mother tells the chronicle his her son was known to drift and sometimes stole copper wire from construction sites. police do not believe foul play was involved in his death. construction workers renovating the building discovered the remains after tearing down a wall. >> an arrest has been made in the fire that destroyed the home depot star in santa fe. a man was arrested over the weekend. accused of starting the five alarm fire at april 9th. san jose officials plan to release more details during a news conference tomorrow. >> san francisco fire investigators say a construction accident caused a fire that damaged buildings near 14th avenue. crews got the call around 11:00

this morning about the fire on the roof of one of the buildings. one fire foorther was injured. sky 7 spotted that firefighter being put into an ambulance. we are told the injuries are minor and the firefighter is going to be ok. >> well, may be dry but more wet weather is on the way. >> kind of nice to track this wet weather late in the season. spencer is here with that. >> there is quite a bit on the way. starting with a small dose of it. the approaching storm that may be producing light sprinkles in northern sonoma county ranks 1 on the impact scale. for tonight, early tomorrow morning we expect periods of light rain, scattered showers. here is a forecast animation starting between 7:00 and midnight. we will see the storm sweeping from the north bay down to the golden gate into the south bay, the peninsula and east bay. producing light rain for all areas. rain may have ended for most of the area when the commute gets under way but there will be wet

spencer is here with the latest. >> we will get both. nice weather for the game and rain that is approaching northern sonoma county. you can see a little patch of moisture along the coastline. no reports of rainfall but up north it is raining and heading down toward northern sonoma county. here's a view from the golden gate bridge it is getting cloudy. oakland 64. 70 san jose. another north bayview the clouds getting thick and low but it's not raining there yet. we have upper 60 as at fairfield, concord and livermore and here's our view from the rooftop camera at low clouds over the bay. these are from the forecast futures. rain arrives in the north bay tonight. continues into the kwoefr night into the early morning reaching all parts of the bay area. a more vigorous storm arrives

wednesday, continues thursday and friday and we can expect a sunnier, dryer over the weekend. a storm of light intensity. light rain, scattered showers. less than a quarter of an inch likely for most locations. it will be breezy at times. by 11:30 we should see rain hitting every region of the bay area. it is not going to be heavy rain but it will be wet and continue overnight leaves wet pavement for the morning commute. although the rainfall will taper off by midday followed by lots of cloudy skies. over in the sierra it will snow a bit. a weather advisory will be from 10:00 to 2:00 p.m. we expect 4:00 to 7:00 inches of snow. above 6500 feet. reduced visibility may be a problem. overnight temperatures mainly upper 40s to 50s. highs will range from upper 50s at the coast to mid-60s along the bay shore line to upper 60s

tonight, several breaking stories as we come on the air. a federal judge striking down the travel mask mandate. the biden administration's response just in tonight, saying masks no longer required on planes and public transit. also developing tonight, this nor'easter moving in, slamming much of the northeast in the coming hours. dangerous winds, rain, flooding, in some places, up to a foot of snow. first tonight, that florida judge striking down the federal travel mask mandate, saying the cdc overstepped its authority. the decision comes just days after the cdc extended the mask mandate by two more weeks, given the spike in new covid cases across the country, in at least 34 states. but tonight, despite that spike, the white house statement just in, saying masks no longer required on planes.
