santa clara da says he is facing those charges due to the fire that he is accusedf committing that caused millions in damage. that fire also could have been deadly. the suspect now faces seven counts of grand theft and three counts of petty theft on top of that arson charge. the district attorney's office says that he stole from a bass pro shop that saturday april 9 and then made his way to the home depot. districts attorney said that he also tried to steal from that home depot store. >> he lit the fire from the home depot and then tried to leave the store with the cart containing stolen tools. he was stopped by a home depot employee and fled in another persons car. >> is the home depot is burning to the ground, he said he went to a macy's in the east bay to continue his theft spree. amazingly, no lives were lost for injured.

still waiting to be answered. he was in court today and assigned a public defender. these expect it to come back to court on june 1 at 130. if he is convicted, santa clara d.a. says that he faces 14 years to life in prison with chance at parole. larry: we have developing news in san francisco where two police officers and one retired officer are now under arrest accused of tampering -- tampering with evidence. retired officer is charged with unlawful possession of a machine gun after he was allegedly found with a firearm that was missing from evidence. they are accused of concealing or destroying evidence including flushing drugs down the toilet. the department says all three voluntarily surrendered today. a man is in custody after a wild chase that started in sonoma county and ended in west oakland. sky 7 eight will find this pursuit and at one point the truck's tailgate almost fell

off. it dragged on the ground as he sped through neighborhoods. the night -- driver narrowly missed hitting a bicyclist turning the corner. not long after that the driver pulled over and ran toward an intersection and then turned around when he saw a police car. they say the man was initially pulled over for speeding and stopped. then he sped off before he was ticketed. ama: san mateo police have made to arrest in connection with a 2020 homicide. they are calling it a revenge killing good to mentoring custody for the death. they took one of the suspects into custody in hawaii. the other man was found in north carolina. the man was killed in a shooting in front of their home in 2000 lenny. >> not only were the suspects lying in wait to commit this murder, they appear to have carried it out without any concern for public safety.

health-care workers who walked up the job say that they have been locked out from returning to work. they held a one-day strike at 15 facilities to protest staffing and safety concerns. those workers were told by hospital officials they cannot go back to work for five days until they are have were placement workers that are done. they say it is not a lockout. when the union threatens a strike, we must make plans. art of that planning is securing staff to replace nurses and those replacement contracts provide the assurance of five days. larry: the runoff election to fulfill the seat vacated is taking place today. current san francisco supervisor is squaring off against former supervisor david campos in the race for district 17 c. a senior reporter with our media partner says this could be another really tight race. >>n another talk about these candidates having really similar ideologies when it comes to policy. it is really like a popularity contest which is by definition, a campaign is.
