earlier this week all bay area transit agencies begin following a federal court ruling and dropped face covering requirements. now, to the latest developments on the war in ukraine. the country's president says, he will meet tomorrow in kyiv with the u.s. secretary of state and the secretary of defense. ukraine's president zelensky held a rare live news conference today telling reporters he would like to meet with vladimir pu putin. zelensky says he feels the two could stop the war diplomatically. meanwhile, they're stopping the war in ukraine. and they're targeting the sow too where the kremlin wants total control. >> the south is important to putin because he would like to cut off ukrainian access to the sea of azov and the black seam and it's through those sea ports that ukraine has a lifeline, an economic lifeline. j.r.: russian forces have tried

to storm the steel plan in mariupol, excuse me, which remains the last strong hold of ukraine restains in the city. the latest attempt to evacuate civilians from there failed. well, in the east bay, you're seeing bagies and baggiest if of fentanyl that police officers recover. the almeda sheriff's county tweeted these pictures. they showed more than 92 pounds of fentanyl confiscated in oakland and hayward. the narcotics tax force says that's 42,000 grams of fentanyl. well, in the bay, theed. popular butter and egg day festival made its grand return to petaluma. today was the 39th annual event celebrating the town's heritage as a dairy and farming hub the parade feature add grand marshall and a newly crowned good egg. this was the first time for the

>> as we mark earth day some experts say that saving the word's forest could help reverse climate change. this month's issue of "national geographic" owned by disney is exploring that effort. abc7's spencer christian focused in on a forest project here in the bay -- one day you're in studio giving the weather. the next day you're out in the forest. spencer: i like being out in the forest. i hope we can preserve them. the san vicente redwood groves that an environment al team is working protect. >> even to the outer bark is charred. you see around my fingers a little bit, we're having leafs comes out throughout the branches.
