confiscated at a drug lab in oakland in hayward. the narcotics taskask force says that's 42,000 grams of fentanyl one person was arrested the coast guard and t san francisco fire department put out a boat fire in the san francisco bay. it happened between pier 27 and treasure island saturday afternoon. there are no reports of injuries and it is not clear. what caused the fire. we are tracking new numbers on the coronavirus pandemic state data shows california's test positivity rate has climbed nearly 48 percent in the past week. the rise comes as a new variant of omicron makes the rounds san francisco's test positivity rate has climbed above 5% in the past week something many infectious disease experts considers too high now one bit of good news, california has administered more vaccines than any other state the his office estimates that we've prevented one and a half million infections and almost

20,000 deaths. martin while is officially moving forward with plans to institute a new mask mandate the transit agency announced yesterday. the board will take up the issue at its meeting this coming thursday. if approved it would be part of bart's code of conduct and would make face coverings mandatory through july 18th earlier in the week a federal court judge struck down the mask requirement for public transportation and airplanes all of the bay area transit agencies then followed the guidance from the t. to stop enforcing the mandate now stanford nurses have scheduled a bargaining session for tuesday with the hospital, but it appears for now. they still will be going on strike monday on the union's website. it says it is committed to avoiding a strike but must address the issues that are important to its members now the nurses are seeking wage increases along with bonuses and mental support if there is a strike 5,000 nurses would be on the picket line.

monday morning a san francisco chinatown favorite has closed its doors after nearly three decades in business saturday was the last day for operation for washington bakery and restaurant. the family owned. cafe was a chinatown staple for the last 27 years famous for its pineapple buns locals say they're sad to see it go. it's really bittersweet. my husband has been coming to this establishment since he was a kid. it's sad and i'm gonna miss all of this like home style cantonese cookie that here it's a testament to how much tradition is in chinatown and how much history we have. so it's means a lot to me that a bunch of customers came out early this morning too to do a one last sendoff for this restaurant. washington bakery and restaurant posted on instagram that it's lease was coming to an end. so the space was sold. it'll be taken over by hans. one-ton house known for its wonton soup. there's no word yet on when that will open. now we check in with mirologist

i am so excited and delighted. i've been i couldn't even sleep last night because i was so excited to be here today. after the pandemic induced break the event was back in full swing this year. it feels normal. this weekend's event marks the festival's 39th year running a celebration of the city's rich agricultural heritage. 1848. san francisco only had about 700 people and after the gold rush it swelled as 25,000 people without any farms to feed them which is how petaluma became very very wealthy and well-known, but while the butter and egg festival is thriving once again in other parts of the bay area separate festivals are having a different phase the gilroy garlic festival another bay area staple recently announced that it would be closing its doors for good all the more reason people and vendors alike. say festivals like this one are important to preserve. we saw a lot of people today that have shopped with us for a long time and we're really appreciative of that because of

francisco. the exhibit is open wednesday through sunday historic house in berkeley purchased for the president of the uc system has been targeted by taggers abc 7 news reporter leslie. brinkley has our details on the history of the house and the apparent reason it was tagged. the uc office of the president purchased this historically significant julia morgan mansion for 6.5 million dollars last week as a new residence for the uc president then over the weekend. it was tagged with the words save rochdale. apparently referencing rochdale village apartments near falls park which provides affordable co-op housing to hundreds of underrepresented students and faces a lack of funding for a seismic retrofit. the home was built in 1928 by the founders of glide memorial church in san francisco. it was designed by architect. julia morgan who is one of the first women to graduate from uc. school of engineering and went decades and sold it in 1991 now

experts are arguing that's saving the world's forests could offer one of our best chances. verse the damage those opportunities are being explored in depth in this month's issue of national geographic as part of that effort by nat geo and our parent company disney abc 7 spencer christian focused in on a project right here in the bay area. he is inside on a majestic grove in the santa cruz mountains that a dedicated team from the save the redwoods league and the peninsula open space trust are working to protect even though the outer bark is charred see grab on my fingers a little bit. we're having leaves come out throughout throughout the branches for project manager suzy petry and her colleagues. the send vicente redwoods are a living laboratory. the area was ravaged in 2020 when the czu fire roared through the santa cruz mountains, but while the destruction was painful, it's providing priceless lessons for how we can better manage, california forests to survive in the age of

climate change. a lot of these trees were very damaged by the flames that pass through the property. and the fire resilience species are actually reemerging coming back to life. to help the larger fire resilient trees thrive crews are carefully thinning out brush and processing permanently damaged logs in eco-friendly air curtain burners. you're basically putting a ton of air into that firebox. so you're kind of super heating the material in there and getting it to burn a lot faster and cleaner. so we're in the shaded fuelbreak here, even though it's not really shaded because because of the fire, but you can see about 100 feet on either side of the road the forest changes redwoods program manager. justin garland says the clearing efforts have allowed the team to expand shaded fuel breaks across the preserve the brakes which are shaded by the canopy of larger trees are thinned closer to the ground to slow advancing
