surging in california wastewater samples collected by the cdc shows san mateo and contra costa county's are seeing the biggest spikes in the bay area right now. starting tomorrow, san francisco is dropping its mask requirement for public commission and board meetings that mandate has still been in effect, even though the mask requirement for city buildings was dropped on march 18th. all this comes as cases along with test positivity rates in the bay area have gone up in recent weeks and days abc 7 news reporter tara campbell spoke to a couple of doctors to find out what's behind the increase and whether or not this is cause for concern cases of covid climbing quickly across california up by more than 50% since march according to the cdc city data showing san francisco spiking above a 5% positivity rate a rate too high. say the experts trying to just look at the best case scenario

and not preparing for a worst case scenario is a problem because we can get caught off guard at that point. stanford's doctor. abrar. koran says with more transmissions come more mut and more mutations mean more chances of a deadly variant and with the next variant, it's hard to say and this is the problem. this is why we need to focus on prevention because we don't know what we're going to be dealt with later this year. and while the virus can be unpredictable. he says this surge wasn't so hard to see coming pulling back on mask mandates and indoor settings that are like transportation. you'll have more transmission, you know more people kind of socializing feeling safe going to more indoor kind of set. you'll have more transmission and while cases are going up hospitalizations are going down the latest numbers show in san francisco 35 people are hospitalized with covid the city of 1 million. those are very low levels. definitely seen an increase in cases, but not seen a surgeon

set to strike tomorrow their yi 93% of eligible nursest t authorized the strike. they are expected to be on the picket line tomorrow morning at the stanford hospital and lucille packard. hospital nurses are seeing seeking pay raises along with bonuses and mental support the union is scheduled to bargaining session with the hospitals on tuesday. battle over school closures in oakland could come to a head once again this week the oakland unified school district is threatening legal action against its teachers union if educators walk off the job in response to the closures. the district's sent a letter this weekend to the oakland education association promising a response. if a one-day teacher strike happens this friday the letter states the district is aware of an upcoming vote to authorize a strike for what oea calls unfair

labor practices teachers and parents groups have expressed concern for several months now about the district's plan to close or merge 11 ousd schools over the next two years. new developments tonight with elon musk's bid to buy twitter company's board met this morning to discussnsolic 46 and a half billion dollars. the board reportedly was going to meet with musk's side to discuss a potential deal and the financing. twitter is supposed to report its quarterly earnings on thursday, which means it will have to respond to the offer musk is reportedly considering taking the company private if he does buy it. well, the warriors unfortunately headed back to the bay area and they'll be bringing the denver nuggets with them. of course, we like when they come back but in this case a little different dubs came up short today in their bid to sweep their first round playoff series sports director. larry beale has highlights and reaction.

months several bay area cities including san jose palo alto and san francisco have all had similar flyers pop up but experts say these aren't isolated incidents over the past several years anti-semitic crimes have risen nationwide. we are not seeing signs of abatement right now and we are seeing a steady increase theresa drenick is the deputy regional director of the local chapter. of the anti-defamation league. she says these flyers in particular blame the entire covid-19 pandemic on jewish people and have shown up in at least eight states. they're created by a fringe extremist group that tries to spread racist anti-semitic and white nationalist ideologies. this really dangerous rhetoric is very reminiscent of nazi propaganda. during the early. 20th century then alleging that -- were responsible for myriad issues including typhoid outbreak despite the vitriol rabbi reitman says the community

places that are breezy are near the coastline sfo for example, 20 mile power gusts on we go mainly clear sky is so far this evening looking at over san francisco from sutro no is 52 degrees here in the city also mid fifties at oakland mountain view, san jose jose santa clara 50 degrees and half moon bay. and a nice clear view from the east bay hills camera looking westward across the bay along the bay bridge. we'll get a few clouds in later tonight, but at the moment it's pretty clear 50 degrees at santa rosa 48 petaluma. we've got 52 at napa mid to upper 50s right now at fairfield at concord livermore 52 degrees and from our rooftop camera a nice view looking across the embarcadero. these are the forecast features. we'll see areas of fog during the morning commute sunny and mild again tomorrow miles to warm i should say because the inland airways will be warm tomorrow afternoon cooler midweek. but the dry pattern even with the cooling will continue. so here's a look at our overnight forecast animation. we'll see lots of high clouds passing by and maybe a few areas of apache fogg developing near the coast of the bay, maybe a couple of inland areas as well.

generally though. we're looking at a sunny day tomorrow with filtered sunshine as the high clouds pass over overnight low temperatures will be generally in the low to mid 50 low to mid 40s. i should say, you know inland areas up with the north bay mid to upper 40s going into the inlet east bay and down south right around. shoreline upper 40s to about 50 degrees with again a little fog on the coast highs tomorrow about 60 a half moon bay 66 san francisco. generally low 70 71 72 right around the bayshore line inlet areas or warm up to the upper 70s and a couple of spots will hit 80 or above it fairfield antioch and morgan hill. for example, here's the accuweather seven day forecast and we're looking at seven dry days even with the increasing clouds and the sharp drop in temperatures on tuesday. it doesn't look like anyway. coming into the picture. thursday will be the coolest day of the forecast period even those guys will be quite bright and sunny and then toward the end of the week. we started to get a little bit warmer next weekend. we'll bring a sunny skies once again and mild to warm weather.
