will show you that with the seven-day forecast. julian: thank you. knew this morning, a gas station fire in the south bay. new video showing one gas pump burning at the chevron in san jose on north 1st street shortly after 3:00 this morning. firefighters found a man lying on the ground not far from the fire. no word on any injuries. you could hear explosions in the background. a firefighter was seen helping get that man to safety. hazmat crew also responded to the scene. we reached out to the fire department and will pass along any new information as we get it. karina: happening now, the desperate search for this baby kidnapped from a home in san jose. the suspect is this person the family did not recognize. amy hollyfield is live in san jose where police are making a desperate plea for help. what is the latest on this? amy: we had seen activity on

elms street this morning where the kidnapping happened. a car was just towed from here but first, i want to share an important update from the chp this morning. chp put out a picture of a 2011 nissan quest minivan they want you to be on the lookout for. look out for this license plate 7hwf353 and look for that white, circular sticker on the left side of the window. this could possibly be the car the abductor got away in. here is that video everyone is talking about showing a man calmly walking off with a three-month-old, three-month-old brandon at 1:00 yesterday afternoon. he took brandon out of his apartment. his grandmother was outside unloading groceries from the car when brandon was snatched. fbi agent arrived last night to

help with the investigation after police had made a plea for the baby's return. >> someone is walking around with a three-month-old baby they did not have yesterday. if you have this baby, please give that baby back to its mother. we can deal with consequences after. anybody who is a mother or father, you don't love anything more than your child. this mother right now is going through a very bad time as well as grandma. grandma was left in charge of the baby and the baby is now gone. amy: here is video taken moments ago of a blue nissan withei t o av not said if this is part of the investigation, but an officer watched over the operation. this is where the kidnapping happened. brandon's him. his father is incarcerated.

old. >> include those children under five who do not yet have approved vaccine. this is welcome news to physicians and parents, especially of children who are high risk. karina: remdesivir can now be given as an injection to hospitalized children and those with mild or moderate covid or at high risk for severe disease. it comes as pediatric infections are climbing again, up 40% from two weeks ago. julian: bart for president is lobbying for a new mask mandate. salzman argues it protects those who are immunocompromised as well as children under five. the board is set to talk about the mandate at its meeting on thursday. if approved, it would be in effect through july 18. karina: reaction pouring in after twitter accepted elon musk's bid to buy the company for $44 billion.

critics worry he will have too much power. others praising the deal saying it will protect free speech online. jobina has more on how this could -- how this could change twitter. >> they are opening the flow of information and also vowing to be more inclusive after criticizing how twitter handles and moderates messages it deems hateful or disinformation. among his supporters twitter shareholders who receive or will receive $54.20 for every share they own, 40% more than what the stock was worth earlier this month. many are highly critical. human rights groups worry hate speech could find a new home on the site. others worry the deal will hand the world's richest person too much power. >> based on his public behavior in the past his concept of freedom of speech is limited for

people who are already in positions of power. and does not have any great understanding of freedom of speech for people who are routinely denied that freedom. reporter: former twitter ceo jack dorsey says elon's goal of creating a platform that is trusted and broadly inclusive is the right one. that is the right path, i believe it with all my heart. musk promises to make the algorithm public, disclosing how messages are displayed. the deal is expected to close later this year. karina: thank you. stanford nurses back on the picket line as talks resume between the nurses union and hospital officials. picketing started yesterday. nurses say they are fighting for an increase in wages, more staffing and better mental health care. >> we are asking the hospital to support services for mental health for nurses. many nurses are traumatized.

they have ptsd, feeling the burnout and exhaustion. >> we are paying top of the market wages and happy to do so. we are not understanding why we are in a labor dispute. karina: the strike impacts 5000 nurses at the stanford hospital and lucille packard children's hospital. for placement nurses are covering shifts, but some elective surgeries have been postponed. julian: we expect to hear from the oakland education association today ahead of a one-day district live strike playing this friday. it is to protest unfair labor practices over school closures. the district is threatening legal action. oakland unified sent a letter to the president of oea demanding they cease and desist for moving forward with the strike. they add a one-day strike would hurt the district financially. all indications show picketing will start friday morning. >> we are encouraging families,

if they can, to keep their kids at home. julian: teachers say the district is violating an agreement made during the last strike roughly three years ago. a rally is scheduled at the lake mary amphitheater at 3:00 friday morning. happening today, a meeting could mean higher water prices. they are elevating drought response and that could result in a surcharge for all customers to pay for more water and other drought-related costs. people could also see the excessive use penalty rate stated. . after the board meeting east mudd will hold the panel discussion about the drug plan at 6:00 p.m. you can register on their website. karina: all out protests. the reason we see thousands take to the streets today across every uc campus. julian: more than just a bumpy ride to school. the video of this terrifying

julian: happening today, thousands of uc workers will take to the streets at every university. the mass protests are hoping to call attention to lope,

discrimination, and skyrocketing housing costs. the housing shortage and high rent are hitting college students equally hard. campuses including uc berkeley are fighting homeowners who are against campus expansion plans. one freshman says most students don't know about the housing crunch when they go to the university. >> i think most go through blind not knowing how bad and difficult it is to find a roof over your head in berkeley. a lot of landlords and companies looking to give students housing and departments, they know that we are in desperate need so whatever price they charge we will have to pay it. julian: a temple university survey found 43% of students at four year universities nationwide experience housing insecurity in 2020. a north carolina grandfather has big plans that spanned the north atlantic. he is planning to row solo from

conditions this afternoon. the wins already gusting 35 miles per hour, 25 miles per hour at half moon bay and 31 san francisco. the sea breeze is going to cool things down for everybody and then this afternoon the winds will pick up. high 50's at the coast, 60's around the bay, fremont and palo alto 65, it is a drop in temperatures compared to yesterday by five degrees for many spots. overnight lows will be cooler. make sure the kids have the jackets tomorrow. because of this cold front passing through clear skies overnight. we are dropping into the upper 40's through parts of the bay area like san francisco, san mateo, fremont 42. livermore also and low 40's through santa rosa and napa. here is a nice look at the accuweather seven-day forecast. breezy and cool today inland.

fififififififififififirsrsrst t lololookokok drdrdramamamatat julian: welcome back. we are seeing the terrifying moment when a car allegedly street racing crashed into the school bus. you can see it happen right there. authorities releasing the video. 23 students were on the bus in albuquerque in february this happened. police say a mustang hit the rear tire and caused it to flip over. the children were violently thrown from one side to the other. seven had to go to the hospital. >> those children on that bus could have died because people were literally just having fun in their sports car. julian: experts say seatbelts on

school buses could improve protection for students. investigators believe the driver of the mustang was going at least 65 miles per hour when he crashed into the bus. he is charged with two counts of causing great bodily harm. karina: new details, another lawsuit filed against tesla, alleging the company failed to respond properly to racism. our media partner reports the lawsuit claims the manager at the fremont factory would greet employees by saying "welcome to the slave house." she also says her supervisors would discipline her more severely than they did non-black workers. it comes after the state of california filed a civil rights lawsuit against tesla in february. julian: new at 6:00, nonalcoholic wines may be the next trend in napa. according to the chronicle, there has been growth in nonalcoholic beer, wine and spirits during the pandemic. demand has become so high sober bars and shops are opening up.

three-month-old in san jose. you can see the picture here. this man abducted the a baby from an apartment in minutes. amy hollyfield joining us live from san jose with the latest on the search. good morning. amy: good morning. we have seen activity on elms street. a car was towed but we also have descriptions that the chp put out. put out the description of a car to be on the lookout for. it is possibly involved. they have since taken down between an san jose police, the lead investigative agency, said it cannot comment about that post. we are not good to show the car anymore. we wanted to explain that in case you saw it earlier in the show. i want to get to that surveillance video. it is the video no one can stop talking about, no one can believe. the video of the kidnapping at how calm late a man walks away -- calmly a man walks away with

the baby in his car seat. this man took brandon out of his apartment. grandma had taken him inside and then gone back outside to unload groceries. that is when the baby was taken. residents said they cannot believe it happened and the calm nature of the men of the video. >> if you saw the video, he was walking down, face mask have loin for or knewcket almost new what he wanted to do. if you're going to steal a baby, look around and make sure it is ok but he picked up the baby, leave. amy: here is video of that car we saw towed from elm street this morning. it was a blue nissan pathfinder that had georgia plates. it was towed with police watching over the towing.

jobina has more on what this could mean for the president. jobina: thank you. good morning. title 42 allows u.s. border officials to turn away migrants due to public health concerns. critics of removing the order say it is likely to cause greater surge of migrants on the border. president biden wants to end the policy on may 23. the white house says the federal judge's blocked may not disrupt those plans. >> there are a range of views on title 42. some are very vocal about how they would like to see it extended. some are vocal on how they would not like to see that happen. that is an important discussion. >> title 42 is a band-aid on a gunshot wound. it is not actual border security. it is important that it represents the ability to turn people away and actually secure the border. jobina: the policy went into effect under president trump

march 2020. since then, migrants trying to enter the u.s. have been turned away nearly 2 million times. texas filed a separate case calling for the end of title 42 to be blocked. a federal judge has not yet ruled in that case. karina: thank you. now to the war in ukraine. the secretary of state meeting this morning with u.s. allies to discuss support for ukraine as russia issues a new warning. the country's foreign minister saying the conflict could escalate to world war iii with the potential for nuclear war. he says the risks are substantial. the warning comes as the u.s. and nato allies are ramping up military aid. >> i want to see russia waekened to the degree it cannot do the things it has done like invading ukraine. karina: u.s. officials told president zelenskyy millions of financial aid is on the way and powerful weapons from the u.s. have already arrived on the front lines. julian: today, a final vote

>> he has well over 80 million users. he tweets a lot. he has been public with his criticism about the platform so, he is putting his money where his tweets are. he is buying the asset. karina: twitter ceo met with employees about this yesterday. cnn obtained audio of the meeting where staff raised questions about everything from their salaries to whether former president trump would be allowed back on the platform. they were told not to expect any changes until after the deal closes in six to nine months. julian: the deal is months away but even still, tech experts in twitter users have been passionately firing off predictions to what might happen to the future of the plat form. ryan curry live in the newsroom with how this might shift the road forward. what are you learning this morning? ryan: what we know is that changes will happen. it is a matter of waiting for the final steps of this deal to be completed. tech experts so you will not see

changes until the end of the six to nine months. musk criticized the platform for several years. he called for more transparency by twitter saying he thinks the app has unfair restrictions on free speech. what specific changes he aims to make are still unclear. tech experts locally think musk faces a unique challenge to implement his vision on the company. >> moderating the content, this is going to be tough for him because he wants to establish a platform for free speech and without it turning into a cesspool of disinformation and hate speech. ryan: musk plans to make twitter's algorithm open sourced to increase trust. he also has plans to bring back certain banned accounts. one of those could be former president donald trump but he says he has no reason to return.

at the coast you will notice it is cool. san francisco 62, oakland 66, san jose 69 and low 70's through napa and sonoma. because of the increasing clouds we will see clear conditions overnight. temperatures will be pretty chilly tomorrow morning, chillier than normal, but 40's for the most part. mid to upper 40's around the bay area. here is an average high in san jose. the average is 70. we will be a little below that over the next few days. on thursday another cold front moves through and that is going to be the coldest day of the week but then high pressure builds and we warm up for the weekend. jobina, how was traffic looking? jobina: we do have a wind advisory issued for the venetia bridge. our biggest issue is going to be in san pablo as we bring you video from our maps. you can see the slowdown west 80

at san pablo dam road. we have a crash reported but thankfully no injuries. one lane is blocked and speeds are around 14 miles per hour. back at the toll plaza metering lights came on at 5:43. back up is building. san jose looking live at 101 moving smoothly. highway 4, 34 minutes for that ride. it is going to be slow trying to get into san francisco. antioch to hercules will be 45 minutes. nice and clear once again in the south bay on 85 to the san jose airport.

commuting the sentences of 75 people serving time for nonviolent drug offenses. the president will also issue full pardons for three people who worked toward rehabilitation and striving to get back to their communities. he says his administration will deliver reforms that advance equity and justice and enhance the well-being and safety of all americans. karina: in the south bay the search is on for a man who sexually assaulted a woman in the middle of the day on a residential street. police are looking for this man. he approached a woman he did not know and sexually assaulted her. it happened afternoon april 13 on summerside drive. she was able to fight him off and scream for help. the state's top cop met with survivors to talk about how california is changing its approach to creating safer communities. >> i appreciate them and we have great cooperation and respect for me.
