alabama. it said she was overpaid by more than $23,000 over the last six years. somehow when she was promoted years ago, she was given a salary meant for someone with more experience. she was given three ways to pay back the money. a lump sum, a yearly payment of nearly 4,000 for the next several years, or perhaps the most shocking option, have $325 taken out of her paycheck for the next six years. >> $325 taken out of your paycheck would be devastating. >> reporter: the letter threatens to add more money to the total. each month it goes unresolved. paige told them, they acted like i did it. i work in the lunch room. i only know about food and lunch room duties. i don't know anything about the pay roll department. and now at least two other employees have come forward, saying they got similar letters, including a recently promoted teacher told to repay nearly 33,000. the chilton county board of

education website said, under the law, board officials are required to recoup any overpayments. legal experts say the school workers may not have to return the money, especially given how long it has been. >> you can run into problems with federal wage law for taking away money that has been paid to them. the longer it has been paid, the more likely they'll have a stronger argument that they can keep the money. >> reporter: a board meeting where the issue was expected to be discussed was cancelled with no reason given. for christy paige, she now has a lawyer. a family won the court case. their house has been damaged by at least 700 golf balls on to their property. the judge just awarded nearly $5 million in damages. >> 26 windows that need to be replaced. the entire siding of the home has to be replaced. it would be impossible to sell the house with that type of situation. the problem had to be solved. >> the golf course owner plans
