argen. lisa: good morning. a weekend warm-up on the way, the final days of april, live doppler 7 some clouds offshore. high-pressure is deflecting that to the pacific northwest. high clouds drifting into the north bay today, 37 in napa, 39 in half moon bay. mid 40's around the south bay and the breeze is four to 10 degrees colder this morning. it is a little hazy. 40's throughout the 7:00 hour. noon time, mid to upper 60's and with the high clouds entering the north bay, it will still be mild in the 70's and a cool and breezy coast in the 50's. kumasi: thank you, lisa. bart is bringing back its mask mandate. we will tell you about that

because they are the only agency in the bay area that decided to do this. we will check in with amy for more. amy: good morning. we are not hearing any complaints at this bart station. this is the first morning in about 10 days that riders are required to put those masks back on. everyone seems ok with it. the vice president said they were not prepared for the federal judge to strike down the mask mandate so the bart board voted unanimously to put it back in place. bart is the only public transportation agency to put a mask mandate back in place. riders think others should follow their lead. >> i think they should keep the mask mandate here and on airplanes and public transport. i feel a lot safer about it these days and i don't think

that the pandemic, that covid is all the way behind us at this point in time. better to be safe than sorry. amy: bart board members say this is temporary and will be in effect until july 18, 11 more weeks. bart says they are doing this to keep their writers safe. -- riders safe. if you forget your mask you can stop by one of the station agents who have masks ready to go. grab one on the way inside to catch your train, they are now required. amy hollyfield, abc7news. kumasi: in the south bay, today is the deadline for valley transportation employees to report their vaccination status. the agency added a vaccine mandate for workers. boosters are not required.

something we will discuss. it will come out in this case in a preliminary hearing. kumasi: both suspects are being held without mail and facing up to 11 years in prison. >> oakley police are asking for help finding a person of interest in the disappearance of alexis gabe. you can see this man walking at the bottom of your screen. police believe he is the person who abandoned her car in oakland. her family discovered the car the day after she was last seen. police strongly suspect foul play. >> we are pleading to whoever has information regarding alexis' disappearance, please come forward and give alexis the chance to be the person she was meant to be. >> the city has created a $10,000 reward fund for information. she was last seen at her ex-boyfriend's home. police searched his home and have not named him as a suspect. kumasi: retail theft has been a

kumasi: the need to conserve water is becoming more critical as the drought worsens and silicon valley is hoping to turn wastewater into drinking water. valley water and the city of san jose are doing that. this advanced water purification center is purifying wastewater to be used by customers. >> we sent through micro filtration and that can remove bacteria, protozoa, large viruses and any large particulates in that water. kumasi: eventually, the goal is to pump the clean water into

julian: it is 6:14. chilling new video out of southern california showing a masked burglar standing over a couple watching them sleep. he got into the apartment by removing an air-conditioning unit from a window and he stole money and jewelry and then left. a few minutes later he tried to come back through the front door. a nurse sleeping in the front room caring for the child confronted the man. >> the nurse was like, what are you doing? that's when you noticed, he was like, you should lock your door. >> that's what he said? >> that's what he said to the nurse. julian: so bizarre.

the nurse did not think anything of it because she had the no -- she had no idea the man had been in the apartment. dna led them to the suspect who has been arrested. more developing news, oklahoma lawmakers have taken new steps to make abortion almost impossible for women. they passed a bill banning abortion as early as six weeks. that is earlier than many women even know they are pregnant. it allows people to sue anyone who performs an unlawful abortion or helps a woman get one. this is modeled after a similar law in texas and oklahoma's governor is expected to sign this law. republican lawmakers want to outlaw abortion completely and will pass any law that gets them closer to that goal. kumasi: a new housing rental scam, americans lost more than $350 million in 2021 in real

schools. the district calls the action illegal and urges parents to stay at home. ryan curry is alive. ryan: oakland schools will be all but empty with pretty much no instruction going on in response to 11 school closures. the teacher's demonstration will be planned this morning near lake merritt. the schools that will be closed will be mostly black and brown neighborhoods and and roman has dropped dramatically. from a standpoint -- they can no longer keep schools open. it could push students to attend public charter schools which takes them away from traditional public schools. >> a lot of neighborhood kids go to these charter schools which unrolls them from usd and then

it looks like enrollment is low and schools get closed. ryan curry they say the strike is an unfair labor strike and the district says this is illegal. askounties they could be facing, they are not worried about penalizing teachers but mostly worried about the well-being of their students. kumasi: thank you. teachers at dublin will head into their next round of contract negotiations. experts say dublin unified school district needs to address issues with hiring and retraining. they say everyone is working with the best interest of students. in california, a recent survey found two thirds of districts faced increased vacancies compared to pandemic. julian: marin county has issued new guidelines to protect students at large gatherings

including prom and graduation. officials sent a letter saying a significant increase in covid infections is from post spring break exposures. 50 marin middle schoolers tested positive after a trip to washington, d.c. schools are considering requiring proof of vaccination, vaccination -- scientists struggling to understand why some are more susceptible to getting covid. they've uncovered a key aspect to help them. they tested 4000 san franciscans and found a subset has autoantibodies that compromise their ability to fight the virus. >> what is fascinating about these discoveries is these antibodies against yourself uniquely attack the part of the
