the north will be allowing for those gusty winds to affect us throughout the afternoon. 32 mile an hour wind gusts in san francisco. perhaps some arrival and departure delays at sfo. 51 in san jose. a ribbon of fog in the distance. low 40's in the north bay. oking at slightly warmer conditions by noon time. only in the 60's to near 70 with very gusty wind, especially in the north, hills and coast today. kumasi: if your kitty is taking you across the bay bridge today, you are going to notice there is another lane at the toll plaza closed. a big rig slammed into the tollbooth last night and this comes after a crash in 2017. jobina is tracking what this means, but first, we are checking in with amy who is live at the scene.

amy: prepare yourself if you are heading this way. let me step out of the way so you can see what you are facing. there is a closed lane. you do not see the debris from the rack, so you might -- wreck, so you might think everything is ok. there will be one less lane you can use. a big rig crashed into a tollbooth around 9:30. the impact ripped that tollbooth right off its foundation and landed in a lane of traffic. a car crashed into the debris. no one was hurt. those tollbooths are empty and the drivers were all ok. this is the second major crash into a tollbooth we have had. the last one was fatal and it happened about five years ago. the toll taker in the booth was killed in 2017 when a box truck driven by a drunk and high

driver slammed into a line of cars and they all slammed into the booth. officials have not replaced that booth and likely won't. same case for this one because the state is moving toward eliminating all tollbooths and using an open road tolling system. your tolls will be paid primarily through fast-track. they don't need toll takers or tollbooths anymore. that project is going to take about four years. no need to be thinking about that today. today, your issue is this closed lane. that is what you are going to want to prepare for. build in extra time for your morning commute. jobina: thank you so much for that update. what we are following here is that the metering lanes are now on at the toll plaza. we are going to begin to see that slowing and we will see how this closed lane, 13, will begin to impact traffic as we move

further into the 6:00 hour. you can see this live picture from the toll plaza, a different angle from amy so you can get an idea of what you will be running into. so far, so good, but we will continue to watch this for you. julian: oakland police are looking to a string of armed robberies. there were at least four on saturday. a couple visiting from atlanta say thieves got away with $40,000 in cash and possessions. reporter tim johns shares their story. >> piece has definitely been broken. my heart is hurting but i'm thankful and grateful to be alive. tim: what was meant to be a happy day turned into a nightmare scenario. the atlanta-based couple were in oakland over the weekend to celebrate his grandmother's 91st birthday. just hours before the party, the pair was robbed at gunpoint while walking to their car near jack london square. >> i still see the guns.

only thing i was waiting on was the shot. tim: he says as they were walking out of a restaurant, they suddenly found themselves surrounded by three men, two of them with guns pressed against his head. they say between the two of them, the thieves stole around $40,000 worth of goods. items including cash they have for their trip, regina's purse and his jewelry. in spite of the loss, he tells me he was determined not to let it ruin the reason he came into town in the first place, his grandmother. >> those guys took a lot of items from me, but they left me with my life. that was the most beautiful thing, was able to still show up at the party. tim: they note that they were moved by the outpouring of support they received from others nearby. they say one man stayed with them for hours after the incident to make sure they were ok. >> we had people come up to us

kumasi: a really intense moment for a man stuck on a cliff in utah. a solo climber fell and had to spend the night on the cliff face. this 30-year-old man fell on saturday during his climb and yelled to his dad who was in a parking lot nearby. park rangers were called in but were not able to reach an. he had a broken ankle and other minor injuries from falling. a helicopter crew was called in the next morning and they were safely able to extract him. julian: who killed jonbenet

ramsey? it is a question that has gone unanswered for 25 years. her father is starting a new petition asking the governor of colorado to launch a new investigation and additional dna testing. he wants the testing done by an independent agency, not the boulder police department. jonbenet was found dead in the basement of her parents home in 1996. the boulder police department responded saying the use of state-of-the-art technology continues to be at the forefront of its investigation. we are hearing from the family of a rookie san jose police officer who died after a fentanyl overdose. the santa clara county coroner ruled fentanyl toxicity contributed to the death. you see his picture here. he was a star football player at san jose state. he was found dead at a home. police are investigating. family members sent as a statement saying there was no indication that he was involved

in illicit activity and he was heavily against it as evidenced by his chosen profession. he joined the san jose police department to make a difference in his community and did not want the police to be seen as a negative entity. they also told us they want him to be remembered as someone who brought good to the world. kumasi: santa clara county supervisor cindy chavez wants to greenlight up to $3 million for a local planned parenthood branch. this is in anticipation of out-of-state women seeking abortion services at the office. chavez says she expects california to become a sanctuary state for abortions. this proposal goes before the full board for a vote tomorrow. julian: the duo behind tiger bonnie art studio store has officially kicked off a month of events for a api heritage month.

into a tollbooth, completely destroyed it which has led to a lane 13 being shut down as we bring you the live bridge from the -- live view from the bay bridge toll plaza. we are down the extra lane and metering lights came on. it does look like the lane closure is impacting the kimye. i want to get right to amy hollyfield who is back live for us and has a different view of the traffic. amy: we do have some congestion to show you. it is going to be a bit deceiving for drivers because you don't see wreckage. you don't see debris from an accident. but the impact is still here and that is because the lane is still closed. they have cleared out the area but the lane is closed, the tollbooth is gone. here's what emergency response teams had to clear out. a big rig had crashed into a tollbooth around 9:30 last night. the impact for the tollbooth

that project is going to take a while until about 2026, is the estimate. here at the bay bridge, we have lost another one. you are going to have some traffic issues today as the lane is closed. kumasi: the mother of san francisco district attorney chase center -- tasty aberdeen has died. he was able to make it in time yesterday to say goodbye. his mother was a member of the radical group and was released from prison in 2003 and went on to earn a doctorate and taught as a professor at columbia university in new york. she was 78. julian: a new york archbishop made a surprise visit to ukraine. the cardinal crossed into poland a few hours ago.

he has been in the region since friday. he told a reporter for our sister station he wanted to see what was happening in the country for himself. >> in general, the people were confident, hopeful,. grateful for the help they got that was uplifting for me. julian: the cardinal was not the only high-ranking official to visit poland this weekend. house speaker nancy pelosi led a delegation. she is now the highest u.s. official to visit since the war started. back here in the bay area, a woman is teaming up with a world champion sled dog race or to save dogs left behind in ukraine. she saw what was going on in ukraine and all she wanted to do was help. >> experience and illness not that long ago and prevents me from really doing search-and-rescue work anymore.

i called igor. julian: so far, they have been able to save roughly 250 dogs and cats and have delivered 60 tons of food and supplies to shelters and individuals in need. i fundraiser has started and is now keeping igor, the world-class sled dog race or on the road. kumasi: taking a look at the economy. new growing concerns about rising gas prices. right now, it is the price that truckers are paying that could impact all of us. jobina: diesel prices are hitting an all-time high right now. reaching five dollars -- $5.30 a gallon, up more than two dollars this time last year. these higher prices have the ability to increase inflation which will impact all of our wallets. diesel is essential to the supply chain. nearly all heavy-duty transport trucks and trains use diesel as

take unpaid leave if they take -- if they test positive. amazon will also stop paying employees if any time off to wait for test results. more troubles for instacart. the company is fighting slowing growth at this point. workers tell the wall street journal their jobs have become much less lucrative and are starting to find work with other delivery companies. some said customers are ordering less making for fewer orders and tips. early on in the pandemic, shopping for instacart was one of the hottest jobs available with so many people staying home at the time. the company says it is committed to supporting shoppers and continuing to update its platform. a big week on wall street for major u.s. companies. first-quarter earnings reports are set to be introduced for big brands. all five of the groups saw their stock value drop multiple points by the close of friday.

officials voted to permanently make a section of -- the nfl draft closed off part of the las vegas boulevard last week. the clark county commissioner is suggesting the city permanently close off a section of the strip. the idea is to make it easier for people to walk between casino properties. no word on if or when the city will officially consider this idea. kumasi: get ready for a rough day at the office. apparently more companies are getting ready to welcome pets to work. a lot of people got a dog during the pandemic just to keep them company. look at this dog. julian: best life. kumasi: as many people are returning to work, they say pet friendly environments are important as a perk to go back to the office and employers are listening to that. companies seem to be leading the trend to make work fuzzier.
