and protesters gathering all in response to a new report saying the conservative leaning court is ready to overturn roe versus wade, the landmark ruling that legalized abortion. >> it would dramatically upend abortion rights. >> reporter: the website politico reports it obtained documents from a person familiar with the court's proceedings. the documents are labeled a first draft of an opinion in a case challenging mississippi's ban on abortion after 15 weeks. a ruling in that case is not expected until the summer. but in the draft, justice samuel alito, the opinion's apparent author writes roe was ejectously wrong from the start. >> it was circulated in the court as a first draft by justice alito in february dated february 10th. so it is possible there have been some changes since then but it's our best understanding of at least where the court stood at that time. >> reporter: the draft opinion also references the 1992

case planned parenthood versus casey which affirmed roe's finding of a congregantsal right to abortion right services. justice alito writes --s where we hold that roe and casey must be overturned. it is time to heed the constitution and return the issue of abortion to the people's elected representative. >> this is a stunning breach of supreme court confidentiality, of secrecy of the traditions of the court and one clearly designed to get a public reaction. it's a crisis for the court because the court's authority comes from the notion that those justices deliberate and come to a conclusion and they don't play politics. they don't play public opinion. >> reporter: overnight planned parenthood tweeting, this is a draft opinion. it's outrageous, unprecedented but it is not final. abortion is your right and it is still legal. senate majority leading chuck schumer and house speaker nancy pelosi issuing a joint statement referencing justices like brett kavanaugh and neil gorsuch who wrote roe is settled law and saying they have lied to the

u.s. senate, ripped up the constitution and defiles both precedent and the supreme court's reputation all at the expense of tens of millions of women who could be soon stripped of their bodily autonomy. and the constitutional rights i've relied on for half a century. the anti-abortion rights susan b. anthony list writing in the draft opinion made public tonight is the final opinion of the court, we wholeheartedly applaud the decision. >> if roe versus wade is overturned it doesn't mean abortion will be illegal in the united states but it does mean that states individually could decide their own abortion policies. and we've seen dozens of states already preparing for this moment passing restrictive abortion measures, bans in anticipation that the court will go this far and give them the green light. >> at least one senator is demanding an investigation into how the draft opinion was leaked to the media. an fbi investigation is

possible. former president trump predicted the court would overturn roe v. wade as the candidate in 2016. he spoke about nominating justices to do it. >> do you want to see the court overturn roe v. wade? >> if we put another two or perhaps three justices on that's what will happen. that will happen automatically in my opinion because i am putting pro-life justices on the court. i will say this, it will go back to the states and the states will then make a determination. >> we have much more analysis on the abortion issue including the history that brought us to this moment at abcnews.com. it was a violent night of storms across the southern plains, at least one confirmed tornado west of oklahoma city knocked out power to thousands of homes and businesses. severe storms also caused flash flooding in several areas. no deaths were reported overnight. there's growing concern that vladimir putin may officially declare war on ukraine next week allowing him to send more troops to the front lines. meanwhile, we're getting a new view of what it's like to live underground for weeks in the war zone. abc's justin finch here with the

latest. justin, good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you. we know president biden is traveling today, heading to alabama in a new show of support for ukraine, mona. today president biden visits a lockheed martin facility in alabama that produces javelin anti-tank missiles. the u.s. has sent more than 5,500 of them to ukraine, a crucial weapon in the war effort. the president pushing congress to pass his $33 billion aid package for ukraine. republicans now signaling other they may be ready to support the plan as long as they hold off adding provisions such as covid funding. meanwhile, in ukraine, a massive fire burning at that steel plant in mariupol where potentially hundreds of people remain trapped under bombardment by the russians. elsewhere, ukraine officials say this video shows a russian missile hitting an agricultural facility but the ukrainians with some victories of their own saying a drone took out these

lines. russian foreign minister sergey lavrov also igniting outrage monday claiming adolf hitler was part jewish. the tip to justify russia's false claim that it's fighting to denazify ukraine even though ukraine's president is jewish. the state department said lavrov's comments prove there is no floor when it comes to how low the kremlin will go. israel calling those comments unforgivable. andrew. >> justin, thank you. british authorities are investigating a security breach among the queen's military guards. reports say a man introduced himself as a priest then infiltrated a barracks near windsor castle, drinking with soldiers before spending the night. officials say the queen was not in danger. an arrest warrant has been issued for the alabama corrections officer who is missing along with an escaped inmate. authorities now believe she may have helped him escape. abc's derricke dennis explains why. >> reporter: this morning, abc

station waay reports that according to the lauderdale county sheriff missing corrections officer vicky white and escaped inmate casey white were in a secret romantic relationship. officials now accuse vicky white of lying about a mental health evaluation for casey so she could leave jail with him. >> we have had a warrant issued for director vicky white. the charges are permitting or facilitating escape in the first degree. >> reporter: authorities now releasing a new wanted poster for casey, a capital murder suspect and a wanted poster for vicky with rewards offered for both of them. authorities say vicky white, who is not related to casey left the jail friday lying about an appointment at the local courthouse. surveillance video shows vicky white's patrol car eight minutes after the two left the jail at an intersection not on the way to the courthouse. vicky's patrol car later found abandoned at a nearby shopping center. >> whether she did that willingly or if she was coerced,

threatened somehow to participate in the escape, not really sure. those of us who work with vicky white and have worked with her for years, this is not the vicky white we know by any stretch of the imagination. >> reporter: vicky, who was divorced and does not have any children set to retire the same day she went missing according to documents obtained by waay. vicky sold her home in recent weeks. investigators now hope that tips will lead to a vehicle the two could be traveling in and note casey should stand out, he's 6'9" tall. >> he will stand out. he is a large individual. he is 6'9". >> reporter: casey white was serving a 75-year prison sentence for various crimes and was awaiting trial for murder. those who know vicky white describe her as hard working, sweet and kind and say they're stunned by the latest developments. derricke dennis, abc news. >> time now for a look at your tuesday weather.

has long faced criticism for its handling of the case. >> if we find this killer and there have been other children murdered, i'll lay the blame squarely to boulder police. >> reporter: in 1996, jonbenet ramsey was found strangled in the basement of her family's colorado home the day after christmas. just hours after she was reported missing and a ransom note was found. the case gripped the nation. now her father is demanding change. speaking to kusa tv. >> somehow we have to force the police or take it away from them, the bail to go ahead and test some of the crime scene evidence that was never tested for dna. why that has never been done and won't be done by the police, it baffles me. >> in a statement, a spokesperson for governor polis said the state will review the petition and will look into how the state can assist in using new technology to identify jonbenet ramsey's killer. boulder police have that dna
