quickly as noontime numbers bayside and inland coast to the low 60's with 80 in land, mid 70's for you bay shore, looking beautiful today and warmer tomorrow. julian? julian: developing news, apparently from a supreme court draft opinion indicates the court is poised to overturn roe v. wade with a live look at the supreme court this morning. 9:00 out east and you can see protesters are starting to gather and the news of the leak is hitting shockwaves across the morning and demonstrators with jobina live. jobina: those who follow the supreme court say the leak of a majority draft opinion of this magnitude is remarkable but caution it is not the final word yet. demonstrators showed up outside the supreme court in washington, d.c. after politico obtained documents from a person

drug overdose deaths, 47% were in the tenderloin. kumasi: the oakland police chief is talking only with abc 7 about a string of armed robberies from over the weekend. they were all on saturday and one of them involved a couple visiting here from georgia, robbed of $40,000 in cash and possessions in the middle of the afternoon. cory armstrong, please chief, said one group is responsible. >> we are investigating a couple of robberies we believe are related to these individuals and are seeking the help of the community, if they have information that might help us identify the vehicle or the description of the individuals that may have been involved, that would be helpful, but we are working to link the robbery with others that happened during the 24 hours saturday night into sunday morning. >> chief armstrong is encouraging you to be aware of

coastline, 80's arriving from fairfield, antioch, santa rosa. near that as well is the 80 degree mark and san jose but the fog will stay with us for the next several days. we will talk about that and a look ahead into the weekend, coming up. julian: major developing news this morning, the u.s. supreme court could be looking to overturn decades of established abortion rights and there is a lot of strong reaction this morning. kumasi: protesters immediately gathered on the steps of the supreme court last night. >> i'm really upset, i knew i had to come down here as soon as possible. >> feels like i jumped in a time machine and went back. >> it's a historic moment for the grassroots pro-life organizers. >> it's exciting -- it's upsetting to both sides. kumasi: politico obtaining a draft opinion showing that the

court justices are ready to overturn the precedent set i roe v. wade. we spoke with law experts who called it unheard of and earth shattering. >> i am shocked and appalled. >> a supreme court clerk for harry blackmun, the author of the roe v. wade opinion, which established abortion rights for women. now the apparent draft opinion obtained by politico shows their conservative majority of justices is ready to overturn nearly 50 years of rights, unprecedented -- a precedent since roe v. wade. >> it's gratuitously insulted of the opinion originally authored. i was thinking that my own boss must be overturning in his grave. >> the document, which politico says they obtained from a person familiar with court proceedings, marked first draft, deb -- dated

february 10, 2022. uc hastings professor joel paul commented on the possible leak. >> obviously someone on the court, a clerk or a justice, must have leaked this opinion in protest. >> during the arguments, five of the justices hinted that they were ready to do away with the viability standard established by roe v. wade and subsequent 1992 decision planned parenthood versus casey. samuel alito is the apparent author of the leaked opinion and if it were to go as written it would dramatically upend abortion rights across america, allowing each state to support its own policy and says that they are surprised the court would even need to rule on this. >> they have already restricted the rights in so many parts of the country that 90% of the counties in the states no longer

provide abortion services. they didn't need to strike down roe v. wade. it is a self-inflicted wound that i think will call into question the legitimacy of the court in the future. >> the drafting of these opinions is a fluid and dynamic process. sources familiar with internal operations told abc news that justices can always change their minds. >> in 1992, just as i was getting to clerk at the court, when they were deciding when, the original draft opinion of the case would have overturned roe v. wade. at the last minute one justice changed his mind. >> how rare is a leak like this? joe paul is only aware of one case where it happened in the country back in the 1800s and the belief here is that justices would make a final call

regarding unresolved abortion cases within the next two months . j.r. stone, abc 7 news. >> governor newsom says he is working with state leadership on a proposal to amend the state constitution to enshrine the right to choose, calling the draft opinion an appalling attack on the rights of women, adding that he's furious that his own daughters and sons could grow up in an america that is less free than the one they were born into. we have to wake up and fight and must not be silenced. >> a planned parenthood in the south bay could have a lot of money coming its way. santa clara -- santa clara county leaders are looking to a -- provide more primary services for care. amy is live at the clinic that could see a rush of women coming in from out-of-state. good morning, amy. amy: south bay clinics say they have already seen an uptick in the need for abortions here in

southbay as women come here from other states as their states have been limiting abortion rights. the announcement was made before the leaked report about the roe v. wade opinion. this was already on the radar of these two county supervisors who announced they would be seeking an extra $3 million from the county for planned parenthood to help them respond to the influx of women coming here from across the country. one of the supervisors called it a matter of life or death. >> we know taking away the legal right to abortion doesn't minimize abortions. but it does have the potential to increase maternal deaths in this country by more than 20%. >> they expect the money would pay for more staffing at the clinics and more lab and medical equipment and telehealth services. officials predict more women

will be coming here as california becomes a sanctuary state and abortion rights are taken away in other parts of the country. supervisors bringing it up for of boat at the -- at today's meeting. julian: new concern this morning that vladimir putin may officially declare war in ukraine early next week, allowing him to send more troops to the front lines. jobina is standing by with more on the possible announcement coming in this morning. jobina: officials are bracing for an announcement from putin on monday, may 9, a russian holiday commemorating the victory over nazi germany. there are fears that he could use the holiday to officially declare war on ukraine, a term that moscow has not used yet. today they will be visiting a lockheed martin facility in alabama that makes antitank missiles. the u.s. has sent over 5500 to ukraine and the president is pushing congress to pass his

already 3 billion dollar aid package and republicans are signaling they may be ready to support the plan as long as democrats hold off on adding other privations like things involving covid-19. while in ukraine a steel plant there where hundreds remained trapped is under bombardment by the russians. some people were able to evacuate on sunday but the evacuations were stopped yesterday. kumasi: thank you. former congresswoman and gun control advocate abby giffords will be in san francisco today for an event to pay tribute to gun violence victims. it's on drum street where the current memorial is set up. paying tribute to the 3500 lives lost to gun violence in california 2020. giffords is a victim of gun violence yourself, shot in the head while publicly speaking to constituents in 2011. the candlelight vigil is
