day yesterday. today, a big change coming our way. a little bit of fog. where we have the fog along the coast and north bay, not out of the question to see some drizzle. we will take you to our next map. what you will find is we are basically in the 50's across the board. you could see right now we are at 50 in san 52 in oakland, 54 in san jose, 49 in santa rosa, 51 currently in san ramon. as you take a look at what's happening for the day ahead, you can see a lot of cloud cover. here's a live look from the exploratorium camera. we are starting out those clouds. sunrise at 6:09 a.m. there is some sunshine from time to time. the clouds ruled the day out there. we will track those winds gusting over 25 miles per hour at times. we will show you these cooler temperatures coming up. reggie?

>> developing news this morning, millions of americans are on alert for severe weather from dallas to little rock and memphis. yesterday, tornadoes hit oklahoma and texas. the widespread damage that left behind. >> multiple tornadoes ripped through the plains. take a look at this dramatic video in texas. >> oh, my gosh. >> hear it? >> oh, my gosh. >> i've never heard that before. >> widespread damage is being reported in seminal, oklahoma. one reported tornado made indirect hit on downtowns seminole, damaging buildings and downing power lines. 10 people were trapped in a storm shelter after debris fell on top of it. all of them made it out safely with only minor injuries reported in oklahoma. tornadoes have hit the u.s. in record numbers so far this year, with 218 reported in march alone, the highest number ever for that month.

before tornado season even technically begins. >> thank you. new this morning, washington, d.c. is preparing for more supreme court protests following the leaked draft opinion in the roe v. wade abortion case. last night, crews put up taller fencing around the supreme court . perhaps another sign of the league fallout -- leak fallout, there is were justice alito has canceled a judicial conference appearance. a supreme court spokeswoman gave no reason for his cancellation. >> elementary students in san jose are heading back to school after a scary incident on campus. a man with a knife forced the school to go under lockdown around 11:00 yesterday morning outside empire gardens elementary school. people who live nearby were also told to stay inside. police say no students were in danger. parents were called to pick up kids after police detained the man. a student tells abc 7 news she was pretty scared. her teacher gave students these

instructions. >> she told us to stay at our seats and be quiet. >> i ride away just started praying to god, you know? you see all the stories from columbine, all those things, so you want to make sure you don't know what to expect, but it's easy to panic, it's easy to get frazzled. >> ted poe police about three hours to get the man into custody. they say he will receive -- it took police about three hours to get the men into custody. he will face charges. a highway patrol officer recovering from injuries suffered in a scuffle on the bay bridge. chp says the officer tried to stop a man walking on the bridge catwalk between san francisco and treasure island. officers save the man did not listen to the officer's commands, which led to that struggle. a group of people nearby ended up stepping in to help the officer detain the man. the officer and the suspect were both taken to a hospital with minor injuries. >> and east bay highway is back open after a backup crippled evening commute.

police shut down a stretch in walnut creek after finding a man having a mental health crisis. tim john shows us how the situation unfolded. tim: it was an afternoon of chaos on east bay roads for several hours on wednesday. around 1:45, contra costa chp and walnut creek police responded to a man standing in the center divide. upon making contact, police say the man appeared to be suffering from a mental health crisis. in negotiating team was called to the scene. officials shut down the freeway, causing major delays. amanda was one of the drivers caught in the slowdown. >> i sat at a complete stop on the freeway. it was just bumper-to-bumper. you know, i put on just google maps to see my eta shifting. >> she says she had no idea what was causing the backup. >> i figured there were some massive accident i was coming up on or something. tim: it was a similar story for

chase. he says he was trying to drive from berkeley to pleasant hill, which normally takes him -- >> i would say around that time, maybe 35, 40 minutes max. >> today, he says closer to an hour and 45 minutes. >> no one was having fun. people were looking at each other, shrugging. >> police say the man ultimately turned himself over to officers peacefully around 5:30 p.m. he is now receiving medical care. even after the incident ended, some drivers tell abc 7 news the this man was running hours late to pick up his kids. >> they are waiting for me to pick them up. >> others say they planned ahead and were not impacted as much. >> i plan to head. i am very conservative. it was ok. >> in walnut creek, tim johns, abc 7 news. >> we use the abc 7 news app to

send out a push alert about the freeway shut down. you can download it now to get alerts like this to your phone. >> new covid-19 concerns this morning. it appears we are entering another whirring upswing for the first time in months. covid-19 hospital admissions and deaths are expected to increase in the coming weeks. some of these numbers are already starting to climb. over the past two weeks, er visits have jumped 44%. in the past week, infections are up 27%. ft officials say the new normal will likely include annual covid booster shots just like we get for the flu. >> there's a new resource for some people who test positive for covid. test to treat sites are starting to pop up around the country. they not only administer tests, but set you up with antiviral medication if you qualify for it. amy hollyfield is live in san mateo, where one of these sites will be opening today. amy: yes, this test site at the college of san mateo will now be turning into a test to treat

site. so, you have seen testing sites, many of them, over the past two years all over the bay area, but this one will be a bit different. it will add one more step to the process. people who test positive for covid can possibly them be treated for the virus. if they qualify, the patient will receive a prescription for covid treatment. officials say they will be able to fill the prescription right here. test to treat is a federal program. they also have sites at cvs stores in burlingame, san bruno and foster city. this one will be opening today at the college of san mateo. reporting live in san mateo, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. >> 5:08 a.m. here is live doppler 7. we are tracking cooler and windier changes for this afternoon and continuing through the week. here's part of the reason why. we have a storm system to our north. you can see some rain entering parts of northern california this morning. that's about as far south as this storm is going to make its

way. it will stay in the pacific northwest. as it lingers over the next couple of days, it will add increase cloud cover to our sky today and tomorrow and bring those windss, especially in the afternoon, those winds gusting over 25 miles per hour. a bit breezy through the delta and over the city. you can see from fairfield to san francisco, winds gusting 22-25 miles per hour t. future trak with wind gusts, this is 3:00 p.m. later this afternoon, likely will find winds gusting over 25 miles per hour at times. early tomorrow morning, they weaken. friday afternoon, they are back up again. expect breezy conditions the next couple of days in the afternoon. you will certainly feel the cooler weather. a mostly cloudy sky in the north bay, more sunshine for the south bay. hit about 75 in santa fe but only 62 in the city with a lot of fog. 66 in oakland, 75 in concord,

one man seen getting under this landscaping truck, him and his partner taking off of 16 converters, which the owners say is roughly $32,000 in value. these converters are made with precious metals, like rhodium. >> because of world events and supply chain issues, the price of those has skyrocketed in recent years. >> the problem is nationwide. more than 52,000 converters were reported stolen in 2021, a shocking increase of 1215% since 2019. >> feels very violating. >> coming up, we will have the expert tips to keep your car safe. with your gma first look, abc news, new york. >> the vallejo police department is installing cameras inside some patrol vehicles. the department because a new step to increase transparency in policing. these cameras will show activity in front of the patrol car and in the backseat. they will record traffic stops, pursuits and transporting anyone who is under arrest. vallejo pd officers are already

>> there is more concern in solano county after at least three additional bear sightings in vacaville. it comes after a neighbor was closed off for part of the day on monday because a bear was in a tree. and abc seven news reporter spoke with people who live in the area and a bear expert. >> that video and this one is all new, recorded wednesday morning in vacaville just a half-mile from where there were road closures due to monday's bear setting. >> this is the time of year when the cubs from last year, they are called yearlings now, they are going to be dispersing from their mother. and so, you've got families just like this all over, you know, in bear country. >> wild bears in vacaville may sound crazy, california department of fish and wildlife confirmed that bears have been known to frequent some hillsides in northern solano county. a camera recorded this bear in vacaville on wednesday 4 miles

away in the browns valley neighborhood. anne has seen an additional video showing a larger bear and believe there may be several from the house or outside of town now in vacaville. >> to have the bigger bear in the same area would almost tell me that we've got two cubs and a mother. >> bryant says the bear in this shot was likely attracted to the garbage cans. she says trash needs to be secured, and you need to be territorial if a bear comes on your property. >> get away, get away! >> saying these are black there's, even though many are brown, and no black bear has ever killed a human in california, nevada or oregon. >> make sure they do not feel welcome, yell at them, "get out of here!" picked up a rock and throw it at their rump, not at their face or head. the bear league has been getting calls ever since last fall, late

fog along the coast and in parts of the north bay. i don't think it's out of the question close to the coast we will likely have some drizzle. windshield wiper's may come on for a second door two. let's talk pollen. tree pollen coming down a bit. medium levels. grass pollen is on the rise, at moderate levels. uv index is very high. there is main offenders when it comes to tree pollen. there is the fog this morning, it is not widespread in terms of dense fog, but it is mainly along the coast and the north bay. much cooler today. coming off a nice, warm day yesterday with a lot of sunshine, things change today, a lot of cloud cover. tomorrow, possible drizzle in the north bay, but it is more so that we find a windier pattern setting up through the weekend. numbers are in the 40's and 50's. santa rosa at 49, 51 in the city, 54 in san jose. as you go hour-by-hour, thanks to that cloud cover,

hour at times. a close look at how warm we get coming up in about nine minutes. >> let's start with the pandemic. for the first time in months, both daily hospital admission levels and new covid-19 related deaths in the u.s. are projected to increase over the next 4 weeks, according to cdc forecast models. antony blinken has tested positive for covid-19. he is reportedly experiencing mild symptoms. the white house press secretary says blinken is not considered a close contact of the president. in the bay area, another high school is seeing an increase in cases. at least 60 los gatos high school strings have tested positive in the last six weeks. >> there>> are no one-stop shops to help communities fight covid-19. test to treat sites are popping up as part of a federal initiative to get you tested and get you antiviral medication. amy hollyfield is live in san mateo where one of those sites

opens today. amy: they have created one-stop shopping at the college of san mateo. you can now test for covid and possibly treat it. it does look like a regular test site, those sites you have seen all over the bay area for the past couple of years, but it will offer one more step. if you test positive and if you qualify, you can get a pill to treat covid. these sites are federal programs. they have this option at some cvs stores in burlingame, san bruno and foster city. this site has been open as a test site for a little more than a year. today, it gets a little makeover, a little upgrade. it will not be a -- now be a test and treat site. reporting live in san mateo, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. >> we are now looking at what could be next for the bay area and the pandemic considering the cdc projections and anecdotes about at brakes -- about outbreaks. >> i think it's possible to

abortion-rights are planning a week of resistance with unified protests nationwide, starting on sunday. those groups say the end of roe v. wade would be one of the most significant reversals of a fundamental human and civil right in our country's history. santa clara county officials are preparing for the potential influx of people coming from out of state for abortion services that they cannot get back home. the county's effort comes as california seeks to become an abortion sanctuary. we explain how these plans are becoming all the more urgent as the supreme court is wang roe v. wade. >> california's push to be a sanctuary for out-of-state patients seeking abortion on the strengthening after monday's leak to supreme court draft opinion first published by politico. >> if california, along with other states, needs to be a safe haven for women, i'm glad we can do that. >> we met with cindy chavez after the board unanimously voted to direct $3 million in funding to planned parenthood marmont take, the largest of

its affiliates to the country. money would go to equipment, additional staffing and more, improvements to better serve residents and women traveling here to terminate pregnancies and legally protect the doctors who treat them. the proposal, authored by supervisors chavez and susan ellenberg, was written prior to the roe v. wade leak. chavez says there has already been an influx of people coming from out of state. >> the timing could not be more important. i will say the fact that they already had 80 people prior to roe v. wade, you know, the overturn of that, really demonstrates what a huge, huge problem this is for women across the country. >> if roe v. wade is overturned, they expect up to 500 more people a week. on wednesday, governor gavin newsom visited a planned parenthood in los angeles. gov. newsom: if guys like me were getting pregnant everyday, does anyone think -- this is comical. this is about controlling women,
