final supreme court decision on roe v. wade, planned parenthood says it is being flooded with calls. and now word that vandals targeted and antiabortion group. good evening and thank you for joining us. a pivotal moment in american history has emotions, tensions, and fears running high across the region. tonight, word that vandals targeted and antiabortion organization. police say someone threw a molotov cocktail into the wisconsin family action office in madison and then tried to start a separate fire. there was also graffiti on the building reading, "if abortions aren't safe, you aren't either." >> i think what affected me more than what i saw here was what i saw out there and they graffiti because that is an overt threat. dion: abc news reporter karen travers as a closer look at how and number of churches this weekend are also on high alert

following the leaked supreme court draft opinion. karen: catholic churches in cities across the country increasing security. law enforcement agents said they are aware of the calls for demonstrations from multiple groups. one group saying on twitter they are calling for a mother's day abortion rights strike in and around catholic churches because "six extremist catholics set out to overturn roe." even though catholic teachings prohibit abortion, 56% of catholics set abortion should be legal in all or most cases. if roe v. wade is overturned, laws governing abortion will be left to the states. senate majority leader chuck schumer will hold a vote instead. he says that is so the american public will know where their respective senators stand. >> we are not going to let a bunch of extreme supreme court justices or extreme right-wing wing politicians take away the rights of an hundred million american women. >> 26 states are certain or likely to outlaw abortion

entirely if roe v. wade is overturned. >> who should make this decision? should it be a woman and her doctor or a politician? karen: many states have so-called trigger laws that would immediately make abortion illegal, many without exceptions for rape and insist. arkansas is one of them. >> i would prefer the rape and insist exceptions to be there. i expect it to be a significant part of the debate in the future. karen: justice limits thomas speaking out telling lawyers and judges at a judicial conference that institutions cannot be bullied to give people the outcomes that they want. -- justice clarence thomas speaking out. >> i as a woman have to fight for the right to do what i want with my own body. why is it 49 years later we are moving backwards? defend rope -- roe outside city hall. >> i think it is important we get together as people, as women, to bring attention to this, to fight this. dion: abortion-rights supporters also rallied today in berkeley. moving out to the war in ukraine, where there have been a number of developments throughout the day. president biden and g7 leaders are announcing new rounds of short-term funding to financially support ukraine and its military defenses. the u.s. is also issuing a new round of sanctions against russia, targeting state-controlled media. in ukraine, more bloodshed. as many as 60 people were killed after a school being used as a shelter was bombed. at the besieged steel plant in mariupol, 300 civilians have been rescued, but fighters say they are going to fight it out. >> surrender is not an option because russia is not interested

in our lives. they are not interested to help us. dion: first lady jill biden paid a surprise mother's day visit to ukraine. two new developments now -- tuna development now in the plane crash that claimed the lives of two people on friday. a helicopter this morning lifted pieces of the crashed van's kickplate. it will be examined by investigators to figure out why the plane went down. road closures in the area are now lifted. just what high school in sacramento says the crash killed jennifer fox, who was the parent of a student there. two cases of suspected dui over the weekend is the east bay involved law enforcement vehicles. the alameda county sheriffs office says a drunk driver was speeding and ran a red light early this morning, crashing into a deputy's vehicle. the deputy was taken to the

hospital and is expected to be ok. the driver was arrested. in a second dui case, a driver crashed last night into a richmond police officer's motorcycle. no one in this incident was seriously hurt. richmond police say the driver was on probation for dui and had a felony dui warrant for his arrest. his blood alcohol test at the scene was more than three times the legal limit. a drone is credited with helping officers take a man with a gun into custody overnight. police say the front desk staff called 911 early sunday morning. someone was in the lobby threatening staff and guests with this shotgun. negotiations began, but the men would not surrender and disappeared from view for about half an hour, so up went the alameda county sheriff's drone and deputies could see the young man asleep on a couch in the

lobby. investigators say he is 29 years old and from richmond. mother's day was celebrated in style across the bay area and for one group of moms experiencing homelessness, the day was extra special. cornell barnard takes us to a mother's day lunch that was hosted in their honor. >> i feel very blessed. >> murray and her partner jackie said they never knew mother's day could be so amazing after a difficult year of experiencing homelessness. they along with dozens of other homeless moms were guests of honor at this lunch party banquet at san francisco's old colonial restaurant. quick sometimes, you don't have the opportunity, you don't have access to a beautiful place to eat. we cannot be thankful enough. >> kids made mother's day cards, each with handcrafted messages of love. these families who are working to get back on their feet are

80 and highway 50 in el dorado county. snow was expected at higher elevations. because of some late season storms, the palisades resort is extending its ski season to memorial day. the bay area maybe not worried about snow, but it is feeling colder. >> it is chilly out there, not your typical mother's day weather. we have snow in the sierra and a wind chill in the bay area. you can see most of the bay area is dry, but there is some unsettled weather in the north where a few areas of spotty, light rain make be falling for some heavy drizzle if you prefer. the windy conditions, ghosts have ranged from 35 to nearly 45 miles an hour. it is still windy out there as you can see, and we have your wind gust animation to show you. wind will relax just a bit, though it will still be breezy near the coast line. tomorrow, wind will intensify

in the sierra, it is still snowing. winter weather advisory remains in effect until after midnight tonight. going into tomorrow, it is still unsettled. we may see more spotty or isolated showers, though we could trim them into other parts of the bay area in the afternoon and tomorrow, but we are generally expecting dry conditions even though the weather will be unsettled. overnight lows in the upper 30's, 40's just about everywhere else. low 40's at the coast. low 60's and lynn. here's the accuweather forecast -- another couple of chillier days coming our way tuesday, sunnier and milder wednesday and thursday. warming begins big-time friday. we will see warming by next week and lynn. chris: the warriors have a 2-1 series lead over the grizzlies heading into game for tomorrow night. there have been hard else, ejections, and unfortunately, some injuries in the series.
