helicopter in the black sea yesterday. abc's justin finch is here with the very latest. justin, good morning. >> reporter: mona, good morning. with all eyes on russia and president putin, among today's top questions, how will he direct troops going forward, addressing crowds he said that russia against ukraine is to ward off any aggression toward russia they could face down the line while russian forces intensify fighting in the east and double down on mariupol. today marks victory day in russia and uncertainty in ukraine, russia revering its military and world war ii-era win over nazi germany. war-torn ukraine closely watching president putin's address to his people and the world. in advance of victory day, president biden and g7 leaders sent out new sanctions. saying, vladimir putin's actions bring shame on russia and the historic sacrifices of its people. those sanctions call for cutting off imports of russian oil. targeting russian state tv networks. banning consulting and other services supporting russia's war. all of this amid a raging battle

this wednesday on a bill that would make abortion legal. it's going to fail, he won't get the 60 votes he needs, he knows that, that's satisfying the left-wing constituency. >> if we're not successful, then we go to the ballot box, we march straight to the ballot box and the women of this country and the men who stand with them will vote like they've never voted before. >> democrats don't have the votes for a federal law legalizing abortion, but they say they want americans to know which each senator stands. it's happening again, gas prices are going up, and this morning, drivers could see a record-level of pain at the pump to begin the workweek. today, gas prices are within striking distance of yet another record high, just ahead of the summer driving season. according to aaa, the national average for a gallon of regular is now $4.32, up 18 cents from last month. one cent below the all-time high set on march 11th.

some analysts predict an average price as high as $4.50 by summer. the cost of diesel fuel soared to another all-time high this weekend, $5.53 a gallon on average. >> price of diesel at massachusetts, new hampshire, is terrible. >> reporter: in new england, some truck drivers are paying $3.50 more per gallon of diesel compared to last year. >> yesterday was the first time i ever filled my truck up and i hit over $1,000 on a fillup. >> on one fillup? >> on one fillup. yeah. >> that has to hurt? >> yeah, yeah. it does. >> reporter: fuel prices are being pushed higher by increasing demand and rising oil prices, due to concern about less russian oil entering the global market. oil prices are expected to rise even higher once cities in china lift their covid lockdowns. >> china is a very large oil consumer, so if china shuts down some of these big cities could

mean lower demand and it could mean lower price. >> reporter: meanwhile, stock futures fell overnight on wall street. a turbulent weekended friday with the markets' fifth consecutively weekly decline. there's one bright spot ahead of a key inflation report this wednesday, a leading research firm says, quote, we expect inflation to peak this summer between 6% and 7% and to recede to 3% to 4% next year with no recession. adding, we may have spotted the first signs of peaking inflation already. that key report on wednesday is expected to show the rate of inflation last month was below the 8.5% that we saw in march, a signal that inflation has finally peaked. turning to the pandemic, nearly every state is seeing a rise in covid cases. despite the rising number of infections, the average number of daily covid-related deaths have continues to drop. the northeast is the current hot spot for rising infections including new york, new jersey and new england. new york governor kathy hochul

has tested positive. she'll work remotely this week. a growing number of parents nationwide are facing a crisis because of a shortage of baby formula. more than 30% of the most popular brands have been out of stock recently. the shortage is due to supply chain issues and a february recall of three popular brands, made by abbott, those products were pulled after reports that four infants got sick and two died. >> for parents out there right now who are struggling to find a formula, try to switch formulas, see if your child can tolerate that. if you're really struggling to find a supply, chat with your local doctor's office and look to see if there are any donations that can be made. >> experts advise checking with your baby's doctor before switching formulas. 1300 homes have been evacuated because of a raging wildfire in northeast new mexico. winds of 60 miles per hour, along with heat and low humidity, could fuel the flames

once again today, despite some progress fighting the flames over the weekend, an area twice as big as philadelphia has already burned. another fire in arizona exploded in size sunday. grid operators are warning of rolling blackouts this summer, saying their power-generating capacity is having trouble keeping up with the supply and the problem is expected to get worse if there's extreme heat and more wildfires this summer. with that, time for a look at your monday weather. we mentioned the fire danger in the southwest. red flag warnings are posted from california to texas, high winds could bring down trees and power lines. the dry conditions could result in explosive fire behavior. on the radar, severe storms are possible from iowa to minnesota and wisconsin, and the pacific northwest will see rain with snow in the mountains. checking today's high temperatures, new record highs are possible in texas and oklahoma. a slow warmup begins in the northeast, 66 in new york, finally warmer.

an ice jam is blamed for the worst condition in decades. we turn now to the mystery surrounding the deaths of three americans at a resort in the bahamas. more witnesses are coming guard. here's abc's rhiannon ally. >> reporter: an autopsy could be released as early as today for one of three american tourists who mysteriously died at a luxury resort in the bahamas. >> we're conducting our investigations as we speak. >> reporter: the mystery unfolding at this sandals resort in exuma. austin chiarella said his father is one of the three people who died. his mother donnis is recovering at a florida hospital. chilling details, saying his mother woke up and my dad was laying there on the floor, her legs and arms were swollen. donnis' brother said when the couple arrived at the resort the air conditioner wasn't working and the resort staff had been working on it. chiarella said

the day before his father's death his parents went to a health clinic because they weren't feeling well. >> we had two visitors to the island exuma who presented to one of our health care facilities with nausea and vomiting, those individuals were seen and subsequently the following day, three individuals were found dead on a hotel property. >> reporter: at the second villa, police discovered another man and woman unresponsive, they were later pronounced dead. police say there were no signs of trauma but the victims did show signs of convulsion, now loved ones and visitors at the resort want answers. >> definitely gives me a cause for concern, because you want to know what happened. we're staying there today, like a day later. >> reporter: in a statement, sandals said, nothing is more important to sandals resort than the safety of our guests. we're actively working to support both the investigation as well as the guests' families in every way possible during this difficult time.
