as you can imagine a sky seven earlier was over the north bay medical center in fairfield nearly 10 miles away and the silver honda the scene parked out front has several bullet holes. you can see there toward the rear of the vehicle. the gas tank is right between those two bullet holes that we see there. the shooting reportedly happened around alamo drive near the southwest end of vacaville. so, let's go back now to 80. let's take a live look traffic as we mentioned is returning to normal. although it is somewhat slow between vacaville and fairfield and you can see all those cards that are backed up just now starting to move as soon as we get more information about exactly what happened. we will pass it along to you. and as we say good evening, i'm amidates and i'm dan ashley also breaking news this time involving the warriors coach steve kerr has coronavirus the team has a playoff game tonight. is right abc 7 news sports director? larry beale is live at chase center with this big news larry.
6:01 pm
the armadan you want to talk about an absolute shocker. we learned this less than an hour ago that steve kerr has covid-19 and will not be coaching the warriors in game 4 their playoff series with the memphis grizzlies now right around 5:15 steve kerr normally addresses the media and we were waiting for that. the press was assembled but no steve kerr so we were wondering what the story was and then we found out steve kerr was sick the great unknown is how long her will have to be away from the team. is it going to be five days is going to be 10 days. perhaps even more worrisome is what players has curve been in contact with will any of them get sick? will they have to miss playoff games? we just don't know at this point. so you see assistant coach mike brown there. he will slide over one seat and take over as the head coach which he did back in the 2017 playoffs. he went 11 and oh that season. he's an experience head coach, so it shouldn't be a huge issue for i'm taking over tonight the
6:02 pm
irony. is that brown just accepted a job as head coach of the sacramento kings, but that's obviously going to be on hold for a while. kerr earlier in the day talked about mike brown taking this new job. it's an amazing coach amazing friend. and sacramento made a great choice. so thrilled for mike and his family. it's a loss for us. but this is how it's supposed to work. you know you want. people who are really talented on your staff who can come in and tribute and have a great experience. and hopefully learn and grow at the same time and and then, you know hopefully be able to to advance careers and move on to something. you know, that that person wants and so mike's ready to do this again. he's excited. and we're we're thrilled for him. he much deserved. he's a great choice.
6:03 pm
so the plan was for mike brown to remain with the warriors and then move on to sacramento once the warriors season was done obviously that plan is out the window and you saw in that video right there that kerr was wearing his mask as he was on our after the game post game show on saturday night and we were wondering his voice was a little raspy what was going on there and now unfortunately, we know confirm steve kerr as covid-19 what we don't know is how long he will be out. we do know john morent of the grizzlies will be out tonight with the sore knee, but that was the storyline. we were following all day long that has been pushed aside with steve kerr now out indefinitely. well lots more coming up in sports right now at chase center larry beale live back to you dan. yeah, not not what we were expecting to hear today larry. thank you. of course we wish steve kurt the best we do boy this series almost been so dramatic. i'm so levels and now this all

right. let's move now to tonight's other top story, which is were six this is a prime example of when you when you charge someone with 16 counts, but yet do not hold them accountable on the back end. the charging rate does not matter. accountability in question after a known repeat offender with an extensive criminal history stealing from businesses in san francisco receives a reduced sentence nathan pico was charged with 16 counts of burglary and grand theft but the da's office dismissed almost all of the charges abc use i-team reporter stephanie sierra is digging into this question. why? on january 2nd last year surveillance footage captured nathan pico breaking into beach cafe in san francisco's richmond district, he stole cash out of the register. i had gotten a call from the barista that opened up the shop. somebody had broken a window store owner. joshua. james says he got away with around $1,000 something that you just keep hearing over and over

residential treatment program and be placed on two years probation. despite the fact the most recent. 16 charges were in violation of the terms of his release on another pending case mr. pico's criminal history is exactly representative of the type of chronic offenders that we are dealing with in san francisco. brooke. jenkins is a former san francisco prosecutor who after working seven years in the da's office resigned last year. jenkins says she's one of 54 prosecutors who've resigned since san francisco district attorney chase abudine assumed office. she says cases like picos remind her left and we are seeing over and over again repeat in chronic offenders receive extremely lenient plea deals during a town hall in march boudin told supporters. his office has continued to increase charging rates file more than 10,000 new criminal cases, but jenkins argues. that number doesn't tell us the outcomes of these cases victims like james what accountability
6:07 pm
as far as the outcome for pico the da's office released him in custody to another county to clear an existing warrant in the meantime. pico has been issued stay away orders orders for restitution and has been placed on electronic monitoring if he violates any of it, he could face up to five years and eight months in county jail. we'll be following what happens. yeah. we will steph in a month da boudin obviously is going to face that recall cases like you talk about here pecos a represent why some people want? but the da is also made an effort to be transparent. what's the latest with his offices data dashboard? well as of today dan it shows buildings office has a 44% filing rate, which means 44% of cases are prosecuted, but it's still unclear what the outcome of those cases are. if for example some charges were reduced from felonies to misdemeanors etc. so those details have not been made public yet. okay, so there's the charges and then the disposition to be considered as well. all right step. thank you. ballots are being mailed out for
