moving forward finding solutions. this is abc 7 news the abuse that they did. the death of this three year old girl today san jose police announced two more arrests in the death of a three-year-old girl who prosecutors say died during an attempted exorcism at this church. the girl's mother has felony child abuse charges since january the child's uncle and grandmother have also been arrested. good evening. thank you for joining us. i'm dan ashley and i'm dion limb today. we learn new details as the two new suspects made their first appearance in court abc 7 news reporter zach f this was there and has new details. the girl died on september 24th of last year court documents show that the girl's mother drove her to a san jose church believing she was demon possessed that girl eventually died in their attempts to get that so-called spirit out the

adults there call 911 hours after her death court documents show that the child's mother claudia hernandez told police that the night before the girl's death. her daughter named o'reilly would wake up and scream or cry periodically hernandez said she believed the child was possessed hernandez and o'reilly's. renee hernandez santos took the girl to this san jose church at 6:30 the morning of september. 24th o'reilly's grandfather renee triggeros hernandez a pastor at the church. later met them there o'reilly dough was strangled multiple times to the point of unconsciousness. a really dough had fingers shoved down her throat to the point where she had multiple injuries to her mouth and to her tongue. a really dough had pressure put on her body on her torso from the front and back with so much force applied that she lost consciousness. she was held against her will and she struggled against her abusers the whole time. this abuse lasted over 12 hours

hernandez was arrested january 31st of this year months after the three year old's death the girls uncle and grandfather were arrested wednesday as the full corners report was released very recently. we received additional facts and details, which i can't go into at this time, but that was enough to implicate the grandfather and uncle in the case if convicted all face 25 years to life days before her arrest hernandez posted a video to youtube and spoke. terms about her daughter's death. the church is also part of another shocking case still being investigated. it's where the family of three month old brandon cuellar met the woman sus. did have orchestrating his april kidnapping deputy da rebecca y said thursday that both investigations are being looked at separately. now renee hernandez and renee hernandez. santos are being held without bail. they go back to court on may

19th. all three suspects are going to appear before a judge. june 13th in santa clara county zach fuentes abc 7 news an historic day for oakland a federal judge has ruled that the city's police department can move forward ending an almost two decades of federal oversight it began in 2000 when four officers known as the riders were accused of brutalizing people in some oakland neighborhoods a settlement in the case required the department to enact 52 reform measures under the guidance of a federal judge and outside observer. the judge now says the city is nearly in full compliance civil rights attorney john burris. it was one of the original attorneys on the case big issue to me is on people being unnecessarily. so so those people not know in the future that was a time they would get stopped. it was a time that not only would they get stopped it would be searched it would be handcuffed for a reason that that were unnecessary and unrelated.

the department is now on probation for a yea tee if they can sustain the reforms. there is a new development in the case of a security guard who was killed during a robbery of a television news crew last year this morning 25 year old shadihia. mitchell pleaded not guilty to killing former officer kevin nashida. mitchell is charged with murder attempted robbery and assault with a firearm he affected to be the gunman who opened fire on nishida in downtown oakland two other suspects have also been arrested today governor gavin newsom announced new funding for more security cameras on state freeways including several in the east bay abc 7 news reporter ryan curry talked to people who support and oppose the move. governor gavin newsom is now taking action in response to the numerous freeway shootings. he announced funding for a pilot program to add cameras on freeways across the state including here in both contra costa and alameda counties. these cameras are going to be a

great benefit to us in the world of enforcement in the world of investigation. and in the world of prevention alameda county sheriff gregory ahern says these new cameras will be crucial in helping find people who commit these shootings freeway shootings have resulted in loss of innocent life sheriff academy cadet david win died in a shooting near the bay bridge and back in november. toddler jasper woo died after being caught in crossfire on 880 sheriff. ahern says, no one should be afraid to drive on a freeway. we have people driving i won't drive on the freeways in certain areas because they're afraid of being involved in a freeway shooting even with the rise and freeway shootings. there are some who think adding more cameras will create more problems when you put cameras on a highway. you essentially are treating the entire public as potential criminals adam schwartz with the electronic frontier foundation fears adding more cameras violates the privacy of bay area drivers. he thinks it will actually lead

to more racial profiling these technologies aggravate exist. in biases in our criminal justice system and can lead to even more people of color being a prosecuted and incarcerated but share for her and says that will not be an issue. he says the cameras will only be used to track criminals. so these cameras are only reviewed when a serious crime takes place. we're looking for the suspects of those crimes. so if you're not a suspect in those heinous shootings or crimes, there's nothing for you to be concerned about in the east bay ryan curry abc. the news the governor's revised budget proposal include several big plans for how to best spend a record 97 and a half billion dollar surplus is plan includes 128 billion dollars in education spending from transitional kindergarten through high school that works out to a little under 23,000 per student. another 23 billion will be placed in the state's rainy day fund to draw from the next time

crews in alameda county conducted live fire training the three-day national wildfire operations are being held at camp parks in dublin. today's training including burn operations. obviously hard to miss a huge plume of smoke could be seen towering over the area earlier today. maybe you saw it fire officials say the training classes are in support of community safety to make them better prepared to deal with these kinds of emergencies. today's burn operations wrapped up. 2 pm and check this out firefighters and contra costa doused a spotfire in rodeo earlier today. it happened along interstate 80 near the california street overcross that fire burned about one and a quarter acres before crews. it out fire officials were conducting a control burn near the phillips 66 plant at the time. they temporarily suspended that operation to respond to the grass fire coming up here two teachers being called heroes tonight after jumping into action to help rescue people. apartment fire before

burning building. i should say to rescue some of them abc 7 news reporter leanne melendez explains how it all unraveled mid-morning this cell phone video shows a fire quickly spreading throughout a section of this apartment complex. at 1355 ellis street, we believe it started on the ground floor and has spread vertically through the wooden decks on the exterior broke out the windows and went into each floor before firefighters had even arrived teachers and students from rosa parks elementary watched as smoke was coming out of the residential building. the schoolyard is right behind the apartment complex. i yelled for my amazing co-workers to clear the clear the yard and move the kids away. from the fire sicily ena lee and vincent reyes both teachers then ran towards the apartments. this was all happening during. the recessed period the children were quickly sent back inside the building. and it's fair to say that had it not been for those two teachers. it's likely the outcome would

have been much worse. both teachers pull down the fire escape ladders reyes went inside to rescue residents. i went inside this building here with a fire first started and seen the fire. it was pretty heavy on the roof. and that's when i seen the last person hopefully coming out of the building. this resident was one of the people evacuated and they were screaming and knocking and calling and trying to get us out and they when the doors open they can't win in and rescued the elderly people. they were fantastic. marikits with her man honest josh gant was walking in the area when he saw some of the other. victims being taken away early bringing one lady out. she was burned really bad on her face and hands then they brought another lady out. she was had smoke all over her and then they brought another lady out smoke all over her and they were all like 80 years old, i guess. 18 people were displaced in what exhausted firefighters described as a fast-moving blaze.
