and put it back in. >> but in a design some way. >> it's going to make sense. >> i just like to throw things away. good morning, america, on this saturday morning we are following a lot of news, starting with the nationwide shortage of baby formula. president biden promising progress saying the issue is a priority, as the administration faces criticism for not acting quickly enough. >> and the white house now asking the federal trade complain.n to m iny >> this a s desperate parents are turning to milk banks to help feed their babies now. let's go back to latest. >> reporter: the desperate search for baby formula may continue throughout the rest of the year, that is according to makers of store brand formulas for the likes of walmart and amazon and the white house ask scrambling to put an end to the crisis. they are rolling out new measures like giving families on

government assistance the ability to buy other brands of formula, cracking down on price gouging and importing more supply. about 40% of formula is out of stock, leaving empty shelves at stores across the country. some forced to limit its purchases per customer. the lack of product is in part due to the voluntary recall of abbott brand formula manufactured at a plant in michigan after two infant died of a become tierial infection in late february. the company says they found no evidence linking the infections to the michigan plant and abbott says as soon as they get the green light it could take two weeks for production to ramp back up. but it could take six to eight weeks for parents to see products, the formula back on shelves. >> thank you. to the latest overnight supreme court justice clarence thomas speaking out after the roe v. wade draft leak, this as thousands of people are taking to the streets across the country to make their voices heard on the issue of abortion. we're in washington, d.c. where

one protest is planned. good morning again, ike. >> reporter: good morning. overnight supreme court justice clarence thomas blasting the disclosure of the leaked draft opinion that would overturn the landmark roe v. wade decision. justice thomas one of the justices voting in the majority of the leaked draft says the confidence of the court has been shaken, saying, quote, it was beyond anyone's understanding or at least anyone's imagination that someone would do that. now, the comments come on the heels of today's bans off our bodies rally that's expected to draw around 20,000 abortion rights protesters to washington, d.c. it's one of more than 450 marches all across the country today, from los angeles to new york city, where nearly 40,000 people ahave signed up to participate. if overturned, 26 states would ban or severely restrict access to abortion, affecting more than half of the people of reproductive age in this country, according to planned parenthood. also, expect to see

anti-abortion activists out in full force today. the protests are expected to swarm to around 20,000 people on the lawn with everything beginning around noon. as far as security, local law enforcement says several roads and streets around the area have been blocked off and there is a heightened police presence in and around the city. >> thank you for the update there from d.c. multiple states across the country are ramping up for an influx of abortion patients, including oregon where they predict they could see a 234% increase in out of state patients. it's one of the states where activists are saying that despite all their efforts, they may have to turn some patients away. here's the story. >> reporter: this morning, days after the senate failed to pass a major vote protecting abortion access out of a likely roe v. wade reversal, multiple states bracing for a dramatically different landscape for reproductive rights. nonprofits started working years ago to expand abortion access. >> it's going to pave a path towards a better future here in oregon, and that's incredibly powerful. >> reporter: in the first law of its kind, oregon's lawmakers approving a war chest of $15 million for abortion, some to help women from other states, including next door idaho where abortion could soon be completely banned. idaho's lieutenant governor recently calling for a special session which would in part eliminate rape and incest from abortion rights. in this interview with abc affiliate ktb. >> we can prohibit all abortions and make idaho be the sanctuary of life that we believe that life begins at the moment of conception. >> reporter: even though her words received backlash from her own party, abortion activists bracing for many scenarios, including potential criminalization for abortions. >> are you ramping up for a

legal fight at your organizations? >> absolutely. we know they're not going to stop at the constitutional right being overturned. we know they're going to start trying to target providers and people in states like ours who are continuing to provide that care. >> reporter: and despite efforts to expand coverage, oregon also bracing to turn away more women. >> i don't think we ever want to tell someone no, but we only have the number of appointments. >> reporter: in portland, a quarter of the lilith clinic patients are from out of state, 10% from texas. it's the state's only option for abortions closer to 22 weeks. >> and this is where patients are seeing -- >> reporter: the center upping security recently, often seeing abortion protesters outside. >> we're out here because we believe that we want to help women in their pregnancies. >> reporter: and they only expect to see more protesters and patients. >> we already serve patients who are traveling hundreds or thousands of miles to get here for basic health care services. and we expect that number to

barbecue tips for the home cook. wls' cheryl scott is there. hey, cheryl. >> reporter: good morning, guys. i don't know how i got so lucky this morning, barbecue for breakfast. i've already tried some of this. it's absolutely phenomenal. hometown barbecue in brooklyn. some of the best barbecue around. chef billy durney, we're making something special. talk to us about the process here. you start off by brining and you say that's important. give us the tip. >> so i think brining is the first chance in the process to introduce flavor to something that's pretty bland, which is chicken. so i suggest to the home cook that they use herbs and aromatics that they love. for us we use, you know, salt, sugar, sage, sometimes rosemary, garlic, peppercorns, some people use lemons like i was describing before. some are using tea brines.

anything to introduce marinade and get flavor within the chicken before we start cooking it. >> and how long do you brine for? >> for 12 to 24 hours so the home cook, 12 hours is plenty of time. >> awesome. and then you go into the marinade process of this after you brine. so talk to us about the marinade. what goes into it. how important it is for this chicken. >> so we use a oaxacan marinade and some friends from oaxaca will call it a breakfast mole. chili, adobe, citrus, garlic, red onions, cilantro, so all of these beautiful spices. and we basically get this marinade, this beautiful color orange, and then we pour it right over the chicken. and this will marinade here

for -- we do it for three days, but the home cook, 12 hours would be good enough time to introduce the flavors before we get it onto theoo grill. >> thinking about a day to two-day prep before this is ready to serve at home. >> yes, so whether it's here in new york or my restaurant in miami, yeah, it's like two to three-day process normally. >> and the last most important step to get this going before you can eat it is all about the grilling. you have a special way of doing this so tell us the tips. >> right, so we use a grill that allows us to get as close to the heat or as far away from the heat as possible. and so what we like to do is we like to set up two different zones. one is, you know, maybe 400 degrees, and the other may be 700 degrees. so we sear off the chicken, so you can see how we get the marks. and then we score the chicken and move it from the searing part to a less hot part of the grill to let it cook. then we finish with another marinade and get it back on the hot side. >> what's the right temperature that people need to watch out

for in the grill to make sure it's done? >> so what we like -- we like to get the chicken to about 165 and then let it rest and that's a safe place to eat it. but this dish is fun because you can introduce any flavors that you really like. for us, it's all these beautiful flavors from the beautiful city of oaxaca, but you can do the marinades and these brines to whatever flavors you love. >> amazing. looks good. we've been tasting some food. i know folks in the studio, you guys have been enjoying this as well. what are your thoughts? >> yes, it is absolutely delicious. chef billy, i only stopped eating to ask you questions, because otherwise i would look like jeremy parsons behind you, who is digging in. you call this brooklyn-style barbecue. explain what exactly that is. >> yes, so i think the thing i'm most proud of is, you know, they call our barbecue brooklyn style barbecue or new school barbecue but the real truth is i'm a

street kid from brooklyn and these are flavors like korean sticky ribs, vietnamese wings, all of the flavors that i grew up with in the city, where i was able to adapt all these great archaic ways to cook with wood fire so a brooklyn barbecue is really a mash-up of all the beautiful people and multiethnic communities that i grew up in east flatbush and, you know, i'm so proud to represent those flavors here within the restaurant at hometown. >> we are enjoying it here in the studio, but you've got some friends behind you there. some friends of ours, taste testers, with a familiar face. jeremy parsons, his cheeks are full but has his family there as well. what do you guys think, jeremy? >> it was such a shocker. i woke up this morning and said, girls, it's 6:00 a.m. on a saturday. how about barbecue breakfast? it felt right and just happened to be here, so this has really worked out for us. how does it feel, girls, taste good?
