about the high cost of living. their chronic issues here, but they are not the top concerned right now. it's crime. at least that's what san francisco's voted in. this year's city beat survey which tracks issues and opinions annually and now city voters could take an unprecedented step to make change and that's why we have team coverage on this topic for you tonight to talk about what's new and to put things in perspective. we'll be joined by abc 7 news insider film material, but first, let's hear from abc 7 news. anchor liz. kreutz liz. hi. dananama the san francisco chamber of commerce conducts this poll every year and it shows that is concerns around crime and public safety in the city are only getting worse more than of voters see those as a major issue the poll also shows a majority of san francisco's are unhappy with the district attorney and they want to see him recalled. san francisco is heading in the wrong direction. that's according to the results of an annual poll released by the city's chamber of commerce
6:01 pm
the poll which surveyed 500 residents found 76% of respondents feel san francisco is on the wrong track 20% feel the city is on the right track. unfortunately this year again, we have some pessimistic views on the city rodney fong is the ceo of the san francisco chamber of commerce. he announced these findings at a breakfast this morning alongside mayor. read the mayor acknowledged frustrations about the city and pledge to do more to increase police staffing. i'm tired of people saying they don't feel safe coming to work. i'm tired of seniors and our chinese community worrying about walking down the street. 83% of the polls respondents say crime has gotten worse in san francisco. 45% say they are likely to move out of the city in the next few years the overall takeaway. is that people want laws and policies that are already in place to be enforced the poll numbers also show bad news for district attorney. sabudin 67% of respondents say they want him recalled the chamber of commerce agrees and i think the recall sends a message
6:02 pm
that we want a tough. the top cut of the da role, but also probably sends a message to everybody. who's in responsible elected positions that they have to listen to the public boudin? told me tough on crime and that res office there is a feeling that your office is not holding people. accountable. well sure. i mean there's lots of stories you hear every day, but if you look at the facts and i know as a journalist, you're working with facts, you'll see that my charging rate is actually higher than my predecessor or than other bay area district attorneys when it comes to pretty much every category of crime domestic violence drug sales property crime. now boudin's campaign has released their own poll. it shows him down by 10 points. they say that this shows it's erased on other polls suggest right now still the da is facing an uphill battle and as we saw from this chamber of commerce pool voters are frustrated and may want to send a message dan.
6:03 pm
liz thanks very much now joining us is c7 news insider film material phil. you heard liz, of course talk about how high the concern is about crime 55% in fact say it's a major issue five years ago. just eight percent felt that very same way, but the general feeling of the city the pessimism that's actually something we've seen before right it is and it's been on a variety of top. a transit for example in san francisco, and it's still a problem as well as the high cost of living here. that is really been an ongoing problem and we're seeing it again homelessness. that's not forget. that although crimes number one 65% what we're seeing if you put it all together and add in the recent recall of three members of the board of education again, because people felt that they weren't doing the job they were elected to do you're seeing a growing frustration and it's taking off in recalls.
6:04 pm
were sitting in city hall right now. i wouldn't be feeling too comfortable about this. and fill in the survey, you know, 45% of people say they're likely to move out of san francisco in the next few years. there are always people saying they're going to leave and the reality is yes, and here is the the two words that could absolutely change the face of san francisco remote work. the idea that people don't have to come into the city don't have to see that that they can work at a distance means that they can move out of the city and still hold on. maybe come in two or three days a week, but they don't have to live in san francisco and there's another part of that. it's also the shoppers and the tourists. do they have the option they have the option of coming or not coming to san francisco that affects the entire bay area. so if san francisco has problems the whole bay area has problems and us something i wouldn't be surprised if we saw a similar numbers like this if you asked the voters in san jose or in oakland or in other large areas, which are bearing the brunt of everything from the homeless to the drawback academic here in
6:05 pm
the bay area. yeah good points. thank you phil. we are always working to better bay area and now we're streaming those efforts 24/7 download the abc 7 bay app wherever you stream. response to the hate fueled shooting in buffalo, new york over the weekend activists and city leaders in san francisco today joined forces to talk about racism's impact in the city supervisors activists a district attorney and the public defender. how the rally outside city hall to speak out against violence and hate we have to do more than just thoughts and prayers we have to that in actions racism infects everything we do unless we make a conscious effort to not do it. and it is time. for san francisco to rethink. priorities important we're going to do about it. the group says anti-racism education is needed and a unified approach is necessary to

make meaningful change. the san jose police department has come under major scrutiny lately following reports of misconduct by at least three officers this afternoon the mayor of san jose and the police chief came together to talk about the state of the department abc 7 news reporter. zach fuentes was at that news conference and he is with us lives zach. yeah, dan, these allegations have been serious and they have shocked the community at least five incidents of police officer misconduct are being investigated and today the police chief unveiled the seven-point plan. he hopes will prevent further incidents and all the people who work here even more accountable. a series of disturbing allegations of plagued to san jose police department in recent weeks. least one of which led up to this video of police chief anthony motto walking officer matthew dominguez the door last week dominguez was arrested accused of masturbating inside a family's home while he responded to a mental health called late april, but that isn't the only misconduct allegation. the department is investigating.
6:07 pm
also in april the department confirmed that they're looking into allegations of an officer showing up drunk to the baby brandon cuellar kidnapping investigation then last week san jose mayor sam. licardo held the press conference. resting accusations that another officer is being investigated for training a meth pipe with a woman to get information. i spoke with the san jose police officers association after the nations made against dominguez and the allegations of the officer showing up to the investigation drunk a lot of especially recent is making this take a very hard. look at our hiring standards our background processes at wednesday's press conference a police chief outlined a new seven-point plan. these incidents have caused. anger and grief in me and the 99.9% of the women and men who probably and honorably? where and hold themselves to the highest standards the plan aims to strength in areas like hiring
6:08 pm
and background checks using third-party vendors to conduct reviews also strengthening drug and alcohol testing resources expanding mental health resources and more also in the plan chief mata said, he will be proposing changes to labor laws that keep him from naming an officer or disclosing the circumstances of an officer's firing even in cases of misconduct like the recent incidents all part of what mata says is a commitment to the community. you will not hear excuses. for inexcusable conduct yeah, so there are even more interesting items to this plan including increased training for supervisors and also random body camera footage audits of the officers video that they collect when they're out on call so there's a lot to plan and really high expectations from the community that something will be done. light of these allegations. well, zack it obviously sounds encouraging on paper, but what needs to happen before the police chiefs plan can actually be put into action. right so much of what happens and what is outlined in this plan is really depending on
6:09 pm
negotiations with the san jose police officers association. so those negotiations are underway, and i did reach out to them in the last hour. they sent me a statement that said that they are supportive of any effort to improve hiring standards and background investigations of prospective officers. so those negotiations are underway, once those wrap up will know what the outcome of this plan will be and if it can be implemented. okay? all right, we shall see zach. thank you. when it comes to the weather we are seeing noticeably warm temperatures. let's take a live. look outside from our east bay hills tower camera temperatures hit 90s inland today warmer temperatures lower. humidity and high winds combined to create a higher fire danger firefighters in the contra costa county fire protection districts say they are prepared. they're doing prescribed to burns which have multiple benefits it removes some of the dry brush and it gives them practice. so let's bring an abc 7 news meteorologist sandia, but tell to look at where there's going to be a red flag warning sandia. yeah that is going to be for solano county and that starts at 11:00 am tomorrow. it runs until 8 pm friday.

out-of-state corporations wrote an online sports betting plan they call "solutions for the homeless". really? the corporations take 90 percent of the profits. and using loopholes they wrote, they'd take even more. the corporations' own promotional costs, like free bets, taken from the homeless funds. and they'd get a refund on their $100 million license fee, taken from homeless funds, too. these guys didn't write a plan for the homeless. they wrote it for themselves.

vigil for the man who was shot to death just about 24 hours ago now. palo alto park, he was the cousin of raiders wide receiver devante adams when the shooting happened at jack farrell park kids were playing tag and others were at softball practice abc 7 news reporter david louis has a video of kids running for safety as gunfire breaks out. it is disturbing. city park crews have been trying to restore jack farrell park as a popular gathering spot for families. it will be difficult for the dozens who were here last night to erase what they heard and we're here that you know like four big shot. boom i'm a girl was playing tag with her cousins as one of them was taking this video when gunfire rang out a shooter one of several was only 10 to 15 feet away. the video is very disturbing.

privately shared with me. have seen the city improved from its murder capital reputation when they were growing up. they had hoped their kids wouldn't experience what they did now, they're not so sure you put other people other families at risk and it just sucks. like i said and its answer your question would bring a chilling effect maybe in east palo alto david louis abc 7 news. governor newsom is now boosted again against covid. it's gonna cry. i've said all my tears in the last story today the governor got his second dose of the moderna booster at a clinic in bakersfield encouraging others to get their booster as well a second booster dose of the pfizer or moderna vaccine is available to all californians 50 and older. well as those who are immunocompromised or receive the johnson & johnson vaccine? santa clara county public health officer, dr. sarah cody has been at the forefront of the covid response since the pandemic began today. she sat down with abc 7 news
6:17 pm
reporter dustin dors. to talk about the ongoing battle. san jose is o o in tryit just over one million residents now imagine if suddenly they were all gone. that's essentially what covid has done to the united states nearly one million deaths nationwide since san jose resident patricia dowd became the first to lose her life on february 6 2020. it is almost impossible to comprehend one million people at dying in just over two from a single disease. santa clara county public health officer, dr. sarah cody has led the charge against covid-19 here in the south bay ever since she the way residents have responded to covid has saved many lives, but the pandemic is far from over. we all want this to be well into the rear view mirror, but the fact is that the pandemic goes on we are seeing we're in another surge. and we don't know what lays

ahead this late is very in is causing higher levels of transmission than that of delta in cases and hospitalizations are on the rise in the bay area. she says there are a number of theories as to why we are the of a covid hotspot in the state, but the quality is the variance are evading vaccinations. despite us being such a leave vaccinated region with the new variants. there's more immune escape. it's better than not being vaccinated. as compared to previously it's great for keeping folks out of the hospital. it's less. of for reducing spread in the community, dr. cody says mandates and other regulations could come back. but only if there's a life-saving need she doesn't think we're there right now and hopes the community embracing vaccines boosters and voluntary masking can slow the spread eventually. we will have the light at the end of the tunnel right now. we're kind of back into a bit of a murky time, but but eventually we will come out of it. i just don't think it's going to be any time in the near future in santa clara county dustin

dorsey ab 7 news all right. we need to find out just how hot it's going to get and it sounds like it's going to get pretty warm sandy patel's tracking that for us. and yeah, it was hot today. i mean temperatures are going to dial back a little bit tomorrow, dan and alma and then come back up again as we hit the weekend. so let's talk about how hot felt like summer 96 degrees in fairfield 94 in concord today 92 livermore. look at that san rafael santa rosa in the mid 90s oakland fremont 80 degrees 77 san francisco 86 in san jose. temperatures well above average for this time of year. so as we check out the 24 hour temperature change up 18 degrees in novato livermore running 15 degrees warmer than where you were yesterday at this time. the reason why places like half moon bay didn't warm up much is you do still have that onshore sea breeze. testing to 41 in half moon bay right now temperatures at this hour ocean temperatures 49 degrees. so when that wind blows off the ocean, you know why it's 63 and half moon bay still hot inland
6:20 pm
in the low to mid 90s right around the bay it's actually comfortable 71 in oakland 80 in san jose. here are some live views from our tower cameras and you will notice that it is sunny, but definitely a little hazy for parts of the bay area from our vollmer camera, you can see that that is evident from our kgo roof camera. here is the of blue skies increasing fire danger starting tomorrow a little cooler than next two days and we are looking at mild to warm weather for the weekend so let me show you what's going to bring the higher winds in the solano county area and the heightened fire danger along with the gusty winds in the north and east bay hills. it's this area of high pressure that has built in now this system here is going to pass to the east and then that ridge gets a little too close to the area of low pressure and we just get sandwiched in between so we're gonna have that north wind, which is elevating the fire danger not just locally but also up and down the central valley starting tomorrow morning running until friday evening. so let's take a look at our fire
6:21 pm
danger increasing as we had towards tomorrow afternoon evening. you will notice the shades of oranges and yellows indicating high to very high fire dangers. so the focus in the north bay solano county in particular, but also the north and east bay hills you're looking at that heightened fire danger because a wind gusts will be strongest over the higher terrain hour by hour forecast will show you those winds remaining gusty along the coast tonight if you're stepping out just keep that in mind going into morning, they ease everywhere along the coastline still remaining breezy and then tomorrow evening. you will notice those winds coming up 29 to 34 miles an hour fairfield 27 miles an hour and ramping up some more late tomorrow night that's going to dry out the atmosphere. so morning temperatures actually warmer. what we experience this morning, you're looking at 50s 60s it is going to be breezy across some parts of the bay area and then tomorrow afternoon in the south bay 84 degrees in morgan hill 79 in san jose 75 sunnyvale. so coming down a few degrees on
6:22 pm
the peninsula mix of sun and high clouds los altos 77-69 in san mateo 61 and half moon bay downtown san francisco 68 degrees 62 in daly city. it's going to be windy here near the coast north bay temperatures 78 in san rafael up to the mid 80s. napa santa rosa heading into the east bay 76 in oakland san leandro 75 fremont inland areas. you're going to be on the warm. not quite as hot as today 86 concord 83 livermore 90 in fairfield and brentwood accuweather's seven-day forecast increasing fire danger that fire danger remains elevated on friday, but the temperatures do drop off a few degrees minor warming for the weekend low sixties to upper 80s and then we bring back the summer like heat with low to mid 90s inland mid 60s coast side. and of course dan as you know, the beauty of living in the bay area as we do have our microclimates, so if you don't like the heat you can usually escape to the coast boy. that is so true. isn't it? not too? way, that's right totally different. thanks, sandia money and miles.
