area offshore, high-pressure building in. brilliant view with the sun up five minutes ago. 51 in the city, 50 oakland, 54 san jose, 47 santa clara. there is the fog at sfo. mid 40's and patchy in the north bay. low 50's by the delta. these numbers a few degrees warmer, oakland, san carlos, and 48 right here. winds 25 miles per hour at the coast the temperatures will climb through the 60's and 70's by noontime. bayshore will be in the low to mid 70's and the peninsula in the upper 70's while inland we see upper 80's. the winds keep the coast breezy and cool while we climb a few degrees. perhaps 90 by the delta. further warming in the week ahead with triple digit heat come tuesday. liz: thank you.

one day after san francisco's archbishop band nancy pelosi from receiving communion other members of the catholic community are responding. tim johns spoke with some to get their take on the decision. tim: as catholics gathered for mass saturday night when issue seems to be top of mind for many in the community. on friday the archbishop issued a statement barring house speaker nancy pelosi from receiving communion. >> all of us which her nothing but the best and lover but unfortunately, tough love is definitely needed and that is with the archbishop is extending. tim: caramel is abo board member of a pro-life committee and says this is in keeping with the laws of the church. >> we cannot believe part of it and reject part of it. tim: while speaker pelosi will not be able to receive communion in san francisco she could get

it in other archdiocese. but that is a choice you should not have to make. jimmy manson is the president for the catholics of choice organization. >> it seems like he is single and her out and tried to make an example of her in the most spiritually violent way possible. tim: she thinks the archbishop's decision is extreme and does not correlate with the actions of other catholic leaders. she points to a 2021 vote that fell short of refusing communion to president joe biden or others that support abortion rights and wars the archbishop's decision could do more harm than good. >> it will only alienate catholics who are already alienated because of the other scandals in the church and the church's failure to listen to the lives of its faithful. tim: in san francisco, tim johns, abc 7 news. liz: in the east bay, a manhunt underway for three men accused

of kidnapping and robbing a woman near the del norte station. this happened around 10:30 friday night. the woman told police she was forced into a green sedan, robbed and beaten, and left at blake and liberty streets. police responded to the location on the report of gunshots after one of the robbers fired a gun. the victim was taken to the hospital. residents near vacaville are allowed to return after a wild fire broke out. the quail fire started yesterday and grew to 135 acres. evacuation orders were issued to some residents in the area. firefighters have made progress and at last check the fire was 45% contained. there are no reports of any damages. wildfire season is arriving in the bay area and one community is making sure everyone has the tools they need to be prepared. reporter cornell barnard went to a resource fair in the north bay.

>> i am concerned for my family but also to be informed for my neighborhood. cornell: there is a weekly test and jennifer was checking out the one-stop shop for fire preparedness and education. she knows the threat is real. >> and 2019 i think it was, we saw the flames coming from the other way. we decided to evacuate. >> i think a lot of homeowners have already been affected. retroactively they are thinking, what can i do better? >> we will wear this while fighting fires. cornell: there were tips on creating defensible space and where to go if a wildfire prompted neighborhood evacuations. this evacuation siren was only a test. three major wildfires in five years have taught north bay residents tough lessons. >> last year, we had more acres burned in the state limits them last 20 plus years with the exception of the tubbs and glass

fire's. drought conditions are real, climate change is happening. cornell: calfire started training seasonal firefighters more than a month early due to increased fire danger in the bay area. >> i cannot imagine being surrounded by fire. this is new to me. cornell: antoine and his son cameron moved from texas. he is learning earthquakes are not the only things to prepare for. liz: that was cornell barnard reporting. a wildfire burning in yuba county is 70% contained. the golden fire burned over 20 acres near camptonville inside the tahoe national forest. the cause is under investigation but this is the kind of fire they usually do not see this early in the season. >> a lot of larger fires you typically see late-summer, early fall. this early spring stuff is different than what we are used to seeing.

liz: highway 49 remains closed in yuba county north of grass valley. winds caused spot fires which led to evacuations. a brush fire that forced evacuations for several hours friday in mendocino county is affecting the air quality here. the owen's fire started near point arena and burned 36 acres. it is 60% contained. air quality officials say smoke could impact the air across the bay area from the north bay to the peninsula. we are checking that fire danger. lisa: today, it is always a risk, but with the temperatures climbing through the delta and breezy onshore wind we have a nice afternoon on the way. the heat begins to take up the word -- tick upward tomorrow and we talked the warmest day of the week next. liz: also, advocating for an admissions system. the person asking the school system to extend the lottery policy.

there was an argument from two people inside the event that led to gunfire. several of the victims went to the hospital on their own. none of their injuries appear to be serious. happening today, you can turn in guns for cash in melfi does. multiple agencies are teaming up to host a firearms buyback starting at 9:00 this morning. they will accept various styles of firearms and they have $50,000 to go away on a first-come, first-served basis. no questions asked. it will be at the community center on east calaveras boulevard. the current lottery based admissions system at lowell high school could be extended,. the superintendent is expected to ask the school board on tuesday for the extension. if approved, the lottery will continue into the 2023 school year, the opposite of the long-standing merit based admissions process they implemented before.

the school board has devoted on a permanent process for the admissions policy. the current lottery system is only temporary. now to the war in ukraine. russia says ukrainian fighters have surrendered at a steel plant in mariupol. it was the final hold of the defenses in the russian occupied city. heavy fighting continues in eastern ukraine with a child among several injured. russian missiles hit a cultural center. russian news agencies report the country's transportation minister says western sanctions against russia have "practically broken all logistic orders used by the country for trade." back in the bay area, a travis air force base ukrainian breathing a sigh of relief. as tara campbell reports they are safely at home in vacaville. tara: this air force captain embracing her mother, jumping

into action s&s she agreed to flee from ukraine. >> i contacted several of my friends if they know of anybody who assists elderly and vulnerable populations to escape kyiv. tara: the ukrainian born american citizen is based out of travis air force base and worked tirelessly to get her mother here to her home in vacaville. >> i had almost two weeks of sleepless nights, extreme anxiety, i was running on adrenaline because i was living on ukrainian time in my brain was constantly working. tara: planning her mother's escape over two weeks. from one safe house to the next, luba leaving everything behind. >> my heirlooms, family albums, my job, my cat, everything. tara: the captain calling her husband her biggest support. >> i was thinking, what can i do did not get in the way and support her in whatever she

$40 billion aid package and finland and sweden joining nato. you can watch that interview on 8:00 this morning on abc 7. in the east bay, some of the most skilled utility workers put their ability to the test to see who is best. dozens took part in the lineman's rodeo at pg&e headquarters in livermore. competitors from utility agencies all over the state and beyond to hearted this event, which included paul climbing, companion rescue, and other skills. the top finishers will go on to compete in the international lineman's rodeo in october in kansas. in the south bay, santa clara county residents are reducing water pollution. the valley water district hosted the river cleanup day to ensure santa clara county's creeks and rivers are clean. trash that enters the waterways finds itself into the san francisco bay. one group of volunteers cleaned

up a popular hiking trail in san jose. >> i drive by blossom hill road. there is this beautiful open space and i want to do what i can for our local nature. liz: in all, more than 500 volunteers took part around the country, clearly thousands of pounds of trash out of the creeks. it was a great day to be outdoors in redwood city for a special event, the sequoia health care district help on the square. this community event brought together dozens of vendors offering information to support local health organizations. there were exercise classes and a drum circle. one of the key ss is bay area. >> what a great day. some warmer temperatures in the upper elevations where relative humidity is pretty low around mount tam, mount diablo. sunny start in santa clara where numbers are going to warm today. we should see mid 70's and we will be climbing through the 70's for low to mid 80's and the south bay. 54 san jose, 50 oakland, san francisco 45, and there is the roof camera. the sun up at 5:54. 44 santa rosa and petaluma. pretty cool with low 50's fairfield and in concord. air quality is moderate for oakland, san rafael. but overall looking at good air quality. the onshore flow with us today getting quite strong along the coastline through tomorrow. right now, temperatures are warmer than they were yesterday. two, quadra, five degrees warmer.

we will see the onshore flow not only today and tomorrow as it weakens in the days ahead. it will stay along the coast keeping temperatures comfortable. warm the next few days and we turn up the heat tuesday and wednesday, particularly inland. looking at the cool down by the end of the upcoming work week. the long weekend, memorial day next weekend. here is wind picking up by noon. 20, 30 miles per hour and they will continue up to 40 miles per hour. getting into some patchy fog from half moon bay, foggy right now, into your monday, pretty breezy. getting a little gusty along the coast but numbers inching up. despite the onshore flow the winds will shift around monday to a northerly component in the upper elevations. that means the dry conditions in the upper air from 1500 to 2003. 63 ocean beach, 70 stinson, but

look at the water temperature, 49 degrees. the persistent north west wind allowing for that and keeping temperatures cool. low 70's should feel good in santa cruz. tomorrow the 90's arrive inland. upper 70's around oakland. here is the hot day with near 100 in antioch, better than that in fairfield, napa 98. how about 80 at half moon and oakland? half moon bay should stay cool in the 60's both days although the sea breeze does back off into tuesday. highs today ranging from the mid 80's in concord to near 90 inland. 83 san jose, above average, 88 santa rosa, wine country in the mid-80's, and mid 70's for oakland with 68 san francisco. the accuweather 7 day forecast, the warming continues monday. the heat is on tuesday. hot inland on wednesday and as we cool off it should be pretty

view, 47 santa clara, half moon bay 45, upper 40's with the marine base santa cruz, 45 44 santa rosa, livermore upper 40's. despite those 40's it is more mild from oakland to half moon bay and even livermore with cooler conditions in novato. we go through 9:00, 10:00 at the temperatures climbed to the 60's, 70's, even 80's noontime. the winds will pick up at the shoreline 2 30 miles per0 hour. -- 20 to 30 miles per hour. low 80's in the south bay, mid 80's in the north bay and near 90 in the inland valley. we talk about comfortable nights, hot days and increased fire danger in a couple of minutes. liz: thanks. developing news, an up-and-coming bicyclist has been shot to death in austin, texas.

the suspect is on the run and what investigators characterize as a love triangle. maria wilson was killed last week by another female cyclist, caitlin armstrong. police say wilson had been in an relationship with armstrong's boyfriend. the boyfriend, also a cyclist, said he had been dating armstrong for about three years and the relationship with wilson happened during a break in the fall. a security guard who died in a mass shooting at the buffalo supermarket is being honored this weekend. he got a postfeminist degree and give indications -- post food 's posthumas degree. >> they asked if i wanted to do it and i said absolutely. they said, think about it. i am going to do it because it will make him happy. liz: he was killed when he

confronted the gunman at the tops supermarket last weekend. the american red cross is continuing relief efforts in michigan. apart a town. two were killed and dozens injured friday afternoon. the storm hit a mobile home park and moved through the business area, sending people running for cover as debris flew through the air. >> the roof started to shake. i turn around and the left side of the hobby lobby roof came off. >> there are no words to describe the little i was able to see. it is devastating. liz: the governor signed an emergency declaration for the entire county. the tornadoes on the ground 26 minutes. the first flights of baby formula from europe will arrive in indiana. karina mitchell reports.

karina: a military plane carrying tens of thousands of pounds of baby formula is expected today in indiana. the first under operation fly formula. tom vilsack will be on hand when the shipment arrives. >> we moved a lot of the vaccine from operation warp speed. this is a new one for us but we are here to help. you can depend on us and when you need us, we are there for you. karina: all of it is specialized for babies allergic to proteins in cow's milk. a hypoallergenic formula is expected to be flown out in the coming days. many parents are growing desperate. kim has not been able to find formula for her five-month-old daughter. now she is having to transition her to baby food a month early. >> it has been really difficult for us to navigate now that we are on the last can. karina: nationwide data shows

45% of baby formula has run out. president joe biden signed a bill on saturday making it easier for recipients of the wic program to buy baby formula. the president is also invoking the defense production act after supply chain issues and a voluntary main formula triggered the shortages. the ceo in a washington post op-ed rights, "we are sorry to every family we have let down." he expects the facility will restart by the first week in june. karina mitchell, abc 7 news. liz: a multistate salmonella outbreak has led to the recall of some jif peanut butter products. the cases traced to a plant in kentucky operated by the jm smucker company. the graduating class of 2022 can

golden state and that will allow for the warm up. not totally disappear. we will have that onshore flow right at the shoreline. sunny view of the city where it is 50 degrees, 50 oakland, 51 mountain view, 54 san jose, half moon bay with a little bit of patchy fog. you can see the low-lying deck of clouds allowing for moderate air quality with mid 40's santa rosa, low 50's concord, 48 livermore. little cool and as we look at the air quality from oakland to san francisco, down through san jose, it is on the moderate side. going through the next several days it is good today and by monday inland and the south bay turning moderate. that will follow suit for the north bay on tuesday when temperatures really crank up at the sea breeze backs off. always that onshore flow allowing for well mixed air but

it will not reach far away from the coast. mild and warm the next two days especially inland. looking at summer heat temperatures tuesday and wednesday but we cool off through the 60's and 50's. the heat risk is not too high. as the winds back off always the risk of higher fire danger and as we cool down it will be dramatic cooling by the end of the workweek. the next seven days featuring the temperatures climbing through the upper 70's inland and east bay with 90. near 100 on tuesday. by the end of the week temperatures will be dropping 10 or 15 degrees. today mid 80's down through morgan hill, 84 los gatos, 80 sunnyvale. the peninsula has the sea breeze, mid to upper 70's from san mateo to palo alto and redwood city. allowing for a nice afternoon. 63 daly city with upper 60's

downtown. here is where it gets warm. it has been warm in wine country but coming up, a few more degrees from 88 santa rosa to low to mid 80's around sonoma and napa, 75 oakland, near-perfect, 77 union city and richmond. el cerrito in the mid-70's and inland we have the 80's arriving with upper 80's yesterday. near 90 by the delta, same today. places like pleasant hill and the san ramon valley will feel warm in the mid 80's but not too bad. the accuweather 7 day forecast, warming continues into monday with 80 along the bayshore, low 90's inland, and another 5 to 7 , 8 degrees come tuesday. still warm on wednesday and by thursday and friday we have got a cooling sea breeze. temperatures around average. it should be pretty nice as we head into memorial day. liz: thank you.

because chesa boudin interfered in every single case and failed to do his job. the office is absolutely in disarray right now. chesa dissolved my unit prosecuting car break-ins. now criminals flock to san francisco because there are no consequences. we can't wait. recall chesa boudin now. out-of-state corporations wrote an online sports webetting plan they call "solutions for the homeless". really? the corporations take 90 percent of the profits. and using loopholes they wrote, they'd take even more. the corporations' own promotional costs, like free bets, taken from the homeless funds. and they'd get a refund on their $100 million license fee, taken from homeless funds, too. these guys didn't write a plan for the homeless. they wrote it for themselves.
