much about the case. j.r. stone has been following this developing story and joins us in the newsroom. j.r.: i talked with those from chp earlier this evening who released new details. we also spoke with the other driver involved says he is glad no one else was hurt. this is new video showing the crash scene in napa county where paul pelosi was arrested for dui saturday night. speaker pelosi was on the other side of the country giving a sunday commencement speech to graduates. >> i don't think we should be paying much attention to what her husband is doing because he is not an elected official. j.r.: but this political science professor says that this dui is napa puts the speaker in a bad light. paul pelosi had a blood alcohol content of 0.08 or higher.

paul pelosi was driving his 2021 porsche eastbound unwanted drive, attempted to cross highway 29, when he struck someone driving a jeep. >> that reflects poorly on the speaker and on congress generally. these are pressing issues and instead your husband does gallivanting in napa, what are you doing to keep america safe and to advance our conversation about what needs to be done about all of these shootings? j.r.: nancy pelosi's office put out a brief statement saying that they will not be commenting on this private matter. chp says this crash happened about 10:30 saturday night. bail was set at $5,000 and he was released sunday morning. the two dui charges are misdemeanors but still so many questions as to where paul

pelosi was coming from and where he was going. questions that will not be answered tonight. back to you. dion: many thanks. on the at 11:00, a terrifying suspected arson at a family furniture stores in oakland. take a look in this video shared with me by the family. you can see someone walk into the outlet furniture at 2:00 on may 15. the family says the individual poured an accelerant on some furniture and set it on fire. you can see the flames. they anticipate closing for the next several months and estimate damages to be over $100,000. oakland police are investigating. oakland's parker elementary as part of several schools the district plans to close or merge. parents are fighting back, escalating efforts to save the school. e parker elementary

school first opened in the 1920's but had its final graduation last wednesday and some parents never went home. >> manda group of others and community members decided to stay and occupy the school. cornell: the sit in protest involves pitching tents outside the grade school. others are occupying classrooms inside. this is months after oakland unified school district officials decided to climb this -- close this school and others. activists say that is not what this underserved community needs. >> they want to take that away from kids that actually need this. cornell: it's liberation of the school needs a reopening and a new name. they say classes taught by community members start on tuesday. cornell: but this is considered

trespassing by the school district. >> they tried to chain the back fences and lock us out of the cafeteria. and we're still here and not leaving. cornell: in a statement, ousd says that they recognize that some people are upset and says that they would like them to choose a different means of protests. going forward, parents say these tents are not going anywhere and neither are they until their message is heard. >> where planning on being here until ousd reopens parker or keeps it as a community center. cornell: the education standoff continues. cornell barnard, abc 7 news. dion: the president and first lady traveled to uvalde today where they met with the families of the victims at the massacre at the elementary school.

said there is eight to nine students alive. andrew: daniel garza was inside a classroom during this. >> he was staring at people through the window. andrew: sources tell abc news when federal agents arrived on the scene, they encountered a scene of confusion and chaos. a customs and border team defied authorities and went in at 12:50 p.m., 77 minutes after the terror began. >> they heard repeated orders to not go into the classroom, but eventually they convinced superiors to do whatever they could do to rescue children. that is when they went in and killed the suspect. andrew: the justice department says they will conduct an investigation into the handling of the shooting. president joe biden and the first lady paid their respects

to the memorial outside of robb elementary school and meeting with the families of victims, survivors, and first responders. the crowd chanting, do something. the president responding, we will. andrew dymburt, abc news, new york. dion: a church has set up a memorial for the victims of the shooting. 21 chairs are now lined up outside of the week towers methodist church. each chair has the name of the victim, one for each of the 19 students and two teachers killed. the chair tribute was organized by the pastor and youth members of the convocation and they hope it sends a message. >> it is like, hey, let's do something so we don't have to do this again. we can go on and on and keep adding more and more because more and more shootings and we don't need to do that. dion: the public is invited to visit the memorial.
