widespread and -- in the u.s.. >> the city of for anna took insignificant damage. the tornado hit it as many as 100 structures. dozens of homes may have been destroyed. no injuries have been reported. the first main hurricane of the season slammed in the pacific coast as a category two storm with more than 100 mile-per-hour winds and up to 20 inches of rain. it has been downgraded to a tropical storm overnight. the national hurricane center said it could still produce flash flooding and mudslides throughout the day. it was the strongest hurricane to make landfall since hurricane season started in 1949.

details about a deadly hang gliding accident in the south bay. a man and a woman crashed yesterday at ed our county part. the man died and the woman was hurt. >> described by fire officials as the most popular spot for hang gliding. the park was the site for the fatal crash. officials say the pair took off from the 750 large spot baha'is large part at the park.

rescue in san francisco in the beige shows why minutes matter when you're dealing with mother nature. you can see a marine county sheriffs boats speeding through the water. the crew was racing to rescue and got caught in 100 mile-per-hour wind gusts saturday. there were also 10 to 15 foot waves in the bay. rescuers say thankfully they were prepared with the radios to call for help. >> covid case rates are the highest in the state and highest over the last two summers. what is behind us rise and why doctors believe there could be a silver lining. amy? amy: hospitals watch nervously and brace as i watch these numbers go up. i have some possibly good news in this story of high case rates.

julian: we are back with developing news out of omaha, nebraska. a fire at this chemical plant has forced people who live in the area to evacuate. you can see the clouds of smoke. they make things like liquid

floor fillers, --. the fire initially knocked out power to 25 homes and businesses. omaha power says that is now down to 300. there are no reports of any injuries. we will stay on top of this and pass along details as we get them. kumasi: and arson's said a store on fire and video caught the act. abc 7 spoke with the store's owner and his girlfriend to question why they were -- there was targeted and why. >> -- appeared to poor

high levels of the virus circulating in the bay area right now. doctors say it could be happening for a number of reasons. travel restrictions have been dropped, a lot of people are out. people who like to visit here are possibly bringing covid with them. >> if you compare hospitalizations now to our winter surge, doctors say we look ok. >> it is true we have clinical tools now we didn't have prior. the reality is a surge like this is still a big problem. amy: one big problem is how many people are missing from work. here are some numbers for you to study. this is happening around the bay area right santa clara county leading the number with the highest numbers. this makes the bay the part of the state with the highest rate of new infections. there is some good news in this.
