partly cloudy, good to moderate air quality, warming pretty quickly this morning. by the afternoon, the coast is comfortably cool, 50's and 60's, but away from the coast, 70's to up to 90 degrees. i will talk about cooler weather to finish out the week in about nine minutes. kumasi: thank you. this morning, people in the north bay waking up to smokey skies as crews are working to contain a wildfire in napa county. it is burning north of the silverado resort and spa which lifted evacuation orders overnight, but the risk is not over yet. amy hollyfield is live in napa county with more. amy: good morning. yeah, you do not see active fire, but as soon as you pull into this area, you know something has happened, there has been or is a fire. look how smoky it is. it definitely smells out here. it is very evident that a fire is happening here, but you do not have that sense that everyone is running scared and

we do not see flames. firefighters said last night that they felt they had a good handle on this one, and they did lift those evacuation orders around midnight. they're letting workers and residents back into the area, allowing people to return home. they were able to attack this one from the air because the weather was cooperating and they could launch the aircraft, and firefighters were also on the ground. this started 3:30 yesterday afternoon. they are still out here, not turning their back on it. they are calling this the old fire, it burned north of the city of napa, near soda canyon road, a pretty rural area known for fire activity. the atlas fire here in 2017. so residents here know they need to take precautions before heading into the summer months. >> everyone i know around here has been working pretty hard to clean up vegetation and brush, but some events you cannot predict.

amy: firefighters aggressively pounced on this one, and they were feeling pretty confident last night that they did have the upper hand. that is when they lifted the evacuation orders. they waited until midnight, but they lifted them, letting people go back home. but they ask everyone to be careful and be aware that emergency vehicles are in the area. they watched this overnight and are working on containment lines around it. last night, they said it had burned 570 acres and they had it 5% contained. they will be reassessing and updating that number later this morning. but we have not heard of any injuries or property damage, any structures damaged because of this, and the weather is cooperating this morning, very calm here, no wind, and pretty chilly. so it is nice and cool, so looking good for the morning, at least for the forecast on fighting this fire. amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. kumasi: thank you. we this alert on our abc 7

amy: good morning. yes, they are looking good this morning. we do not see active fire and the weather is cooperating. we had a cool and calm night. we expect an update soon about how the en for them, but they went into the night feeling confident, and they even lifted the evacuation order they put in place. around midnight, they started allowing people to go back to their homes. they attacked this thing aggressively. from the air, they had the tankers dropping water and retardant on this fire. they had the helicopters. it was an aggressive attack on the ground and from up above on this fire, which they are calling the old fire. it started around 3:30 yesterday afternoon and burned north of the city of napa, near soda canyon road and old soda springs road. it is a pretty rural area that is known for fire activity. the atlas fire burned here in 2017, so firefighters are familiar with this area, and they say it is a tough area for

supposed to be locked, but it did not. and investigators now say they agree with her claims, that your is key here because that is how the suspect got inside the school meanwhile, abc news sources say uvalde police and the school's police chief have stopped cooperating with investigators. the chief's refusal comes after the public safety department director called uvalde police path delayed spots the wrong decision. the chief reportedly ordered technical teams not to go into a classroom, wrongly believing there was a barricaded subject and not an active shooter in the room. >> you are expecting news of a mass shooting everyday with the statistics we have right now. in national be the case. it should not be the case -- and that should not be the case. kumasi: the impact of the shooting has sparked reaction from students at a pleasanton middle school. students walked out of class yesterday calling for better gun-control laws.

kumasi: our work means learning from our best to make it a better place to live for everyone. today, california's task force on reparations is set to take a groundbreaking step forward, releasing a report detailing systemic discrimination black americans have faced for hundreds of years. this morning, ryan curry is live in the newsroom with the recommendations the panel is planning to make to address the harm done. ryan: the task force is expected to release a report detailing the arms perpetuated by the state against african-americans. they will recommend ways to address those wrongs. it would include calls to create an official -- an office to help descendants of enslaved black people, document eligibility for financial restitution. in march, the task force voted down a proposal to give reparations to all black americans paired other recommendations include expanding voter registration, making it easier to hold police
