we still have an onshore breeze gusting. the weekend does get a chance of showers. we will detail that in about eight minutes. kumasi: messing up again indoors in alameda county. a few hours ago, the county became the first in the bay area and the state to reinstate its mask mandate. amy hollyfield is life with more on the decision. amy: i wonder if everyone was so distracted with the warriors game yesterday that they missed this announcement in alameda county. everyone we have seen walking into the safeway has not had a mask on. they do not have a sign up at the store yet. i talked to an employee who did not even know it had gone into effect. this is brand-new, where it seems to be spreading slowly in alameda county. mandates are back, even though they were dropped february once the omicron surge calmed down. but alameda county is now bringing back the mandate because of a of covid cases and hospitalizations.

this county now has more new cases every day than they had during last summer's delta surge. county health officer has not said how long the mandate will be in place. it sounds like it won't be for long. >> this is intended to be a short-term measure to get this wave under control. we will lift it as soon as we can. amy: there are some exceptions. this will not apply to schools. they also won't require masks on performers who are on stage. they also say if you are at the gym and you are swimming or showering, you won't have to wear a mask. if you work alone in a closed office or a room, you also won't be were wired to wear one. this does not apply to berkeley. that city has its own health department. reporting live in pleasanton, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. reggie: masks will also be required on ac transit buses. the system removed that requirement in april after a judge struck down the federal

mandate for public transportation. face masks and hand sanitizer are free for everybody to use. the latest covid-19 updates and headlines -- just go to abc7news. kumasi: president biden appealed to tighten the gun restrictions one day after four people were shot and killed at a tulsa, oklahoma medical center. this is coming as congressional leaders are debating new gun legislation. jobina: president biden says the families who have lost family members in shootings are demanding congress do something about guns right now. airing his address to the nation last night, there were 56 candles behind the president, one for each u.s. territory and state touched by gun violence. the president called for a ban on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines. he also pushed for enhanced background checks along with red flag and safe storage laws.

pres. biden: for god sake, do something. after columbine, sandy hook, charleston, orlando, las vegas, parkland -- nothing has been done. this time, that can't be true. jobina: on capitol hill, a house committee approved a bill that would raise the age limit to 21 to buy semiautomatic rifles and tighten regulation of so-called ghost guns and bump stocks. that bill is up for a full vote in the house next week but has little chance of passing in the senate. on the senate side, the partisan talks continue with momentum going on policies that could earn support from both parties, the details are not known right now. kumasi: new details on san francisco's embattled laguna honda hospital. ceo michael phillips has stepped down after two years on the job. the facility had a series of violations and state and federal

as he called for a ban on some weapons during an address to the nation. this comes days after he met with the families of those killed in a school massacre in texas. 19 children and two teachers were killed. their loved ones want to see change. pres. biden: they had one message for all of us -- do something. we need to ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines. if we can't ban assault weapons, we should raise the age to purchase them from 18 to 21, strengthen background checks, enact safe storage law and red flag laws, repeal the immunity that protects gun manufacturers from liability, address the mental health crisis. reggie: in the house a vote is expected next week on a package of gun reforms. it is expected to pass there, but it's going to be a challenge in the senate, where it will likely face a filibuster. kumasi: we're learning more about the motive of a mass

shooting in tulsa, oklahoma. shooter michael lewis targeted and killed his own dark -- doctor, upset about pain after a recent back surgery. he claimed to kill dr. phillips and anyone who got in his way. he also shot to doctors -- two other doctors and a patient. he took his own life before police were able to arrest him. reggie: tennis star coco gauff is using her platform to call for an end to gun violence. she wrote on the courtside tv camera lens. instead of just her signature, she wrote "peace. end gun violence." she had friends who went to marjory stoneman douglas high school in parkland, friday, where a gunman killed people in 2018. she said her family encourages her to use her voice, and she

has been inspired by other athletes doing the same. kumasi: officials say a threat against a petaluma high school was actually meant for a different school. petaluma police warned people about the threat. investigators now say the suspect is in another state in the reference was to a high school that is not nearby. officials said they wanted to notify the community that the police were aware of a potential threat. reggie: good news on the baby formula shortage. the fda announced some formula being shipped here from germany should be in stores later this month. two of the 50,000 cans of nestle formula will be on store shelves and the gerber website this month and next. officials say they are evaluating options for getting nestle products in the u.s. as soon as possible. this comes as there is investigation into the closure of the avid plant -- habit plant -- abbot plant's closure by the

body? police hope a reward helps someone come forward. investigators believe her ex-boyfriend killed her, and now he is dead after attacking the officers trying to arrest him in seattle. >> some questions answered for the gabe family, but the biggest one left unanswered, and that is, where is alexis gabe? the person who had the best knowledge of that is now dead. he saw the emotional press conference yesterday. the police chief spoke about the efforts to locate the ex-boyfriend, 27-year-old marshall curtis jones. he was located near seattle, but when police attempted to arrest him, they chart -- he charged at them with a knife. police say jones killed gabe at his antioch home on the day she was last seen. her car was located away from the home and gps tracking shows someone drove it straight from jones's house to that area. gabe's body has yet to be found.

kumasi: parents of students on an east bay cheer squad are calling for the saddledome a superintendent to be removed. they say john malloy failed to get the whole story after photo surfaced showing california hi team members posing with a dark skinned mannequin had. the team said the mannequin's skin is tan and it was a gift several years ago that became a good luck charm. the mother of a student who did not make the team spread a rumor accusing the team of racist acts. they say superintendent malloy failed to get the whole story and facilitated bullying of the team. the superintendent says the district understands there was no malicious intent, but the existence of the unofficial mascot is wrong and cannot continue. reggie: san francisco police and mayor london breed will march in the pride parade after all. mayor breed made that announcement yesterday. a new agreement allows officers and command staff who are on duty to march in uniform.

off-duty officers and personnel will wear more casual clothing. parade organizers originally banned uniformed officers from participating after an insight in 2019 where the parade was delayed after some pride mergers who were protesting got arrested. mayor breed caused controversy when she cited with police. yesterday, she apologized for only listening to one side of this debate. mayor breed: i apologize for not also recognizing the hurt and the pain that i know some feel as a result of their own interactions and engagement with law enforcement. reggie: this compromise is only good for this year's parade. talks on where to go from here will continue for next year's event. the u.s. job market continues to grow despite fears of an economic slowdown. the liver department just released the may jobs report.
