and elevated efforts to stop it. good evening, and thank you for joining us. i'm dionne lim we begin now with the latest effort to try and curb gun violence in our nation a group held this march across the golden gate bridge demanding tougher federal gun legislation. abc 7 news reporter cornell bernard spoke with them and has a look at the uphill political battle over gun control. hundreds of people dressed in orange marched across the golden gate bridge honoring victims of gun violence and calling for increased gun. safety dominic reeves brought her kids. oh, i'm just here in solidarity with everyone here. that's trying to you know get the guns off the streets and out of the hands of children and make our schools safe. again dante ivory lost two relatives to gun violence. i know what it's like family martin killed consistent waters what's going on the event held

on national gun violence awareness day was organized by mom's demand action just days after a deadly mass shooting claim the lives of 19 children and two teachers in uvald nothing has been done. this time that can't be true this week president biden again calling for a ban on assault weapons and enhanced background checks a house committee approving a bill that would raise the age limit to 21 to buy semi-automatic rifles a full house vote is scheduled next week, but the bill has little chance of passing in the senate. let's be honest. told us what they want to do. their real beef is with the second amendment. i pray for that moment. but we will but it's a congresswoman jackie spear a survivor of gun violence led sunday's march. she hopes there will be a political compromise to keep schools and society safer if we

had a hundred people dying in a plane every day. every day congress would be acting but somehow because it happens. with guns, it's okay. is not okay in san francisco cornell bernard abc 7 news. bay area law enforcement agencies are making gun owners an offer in an effort to get the most dangerous weapons off. the street. marin is one of two counties to hold gun buy-back events today offering $200 for each assault weapon turned in $100 for each handgun rifle or shotgun. no questions asked they rounded up 500 guns in just four hours today. it just starts those conversations at home on about gun safety and whether or not they want guns. our homes and if they do how to secure them and how to properly store them away and keep them safe and if they do not this is a perfect event in which people can come in and turn in their guns and not only that but also

get paid money for it. this was marin county's first gun buyback event since 2016 the number of weapons collected does not include keep in mind stolen guns turned in today. all of the guns will be stored in a police facility until they are destroyed. meantime san mateo county also hosted its own gun buyback today law enforcement there rounded up nearly 400 firearms including seven assault weapons and 12 so-called ghost guns. those are guns that don't have a commercial serial number which makes the weapon untraceable. san francisco police have just announced arrest in three different homicides they held a press conference this afternoon to share the results one was a stabbing at 15th and south van ness last night. another was a stabbing in the tenderloin last week. the third was back in april at 24th and potrero. it's not an typical that we have four murder suspects arrested in a span of a few days on three

different cases. so we want to highlight the good. this being done and that the public know how hard we're working to make sure that we keep san francisco a safe city. the chief says there have been 20 homicides in san francisco so far this year last year. there were 18 homicides through the end of may. we are getting our first look at the deadly confrontation between police and seattle and the man at the center of a missing person's case here in the bay area. we do want to warn you though. some may find this next video hard to watch. that was cell phone video released by seattle police that showed the moments they arrested and moved into arrest marshall jones on wednesday officers served in arrest warrant at an apartment where jones was staying they say he came to the door armed with a large kitchen knife. officers opened fire and jones was killed jones was the ex-boyfriend of alexis gabe the

oakley woman who has been missing for about six months now investigators in oakley said this week that overwhelming evidence leads them to believe jones killed alexis at his home in antioch. she was last seen leaving jones's home and her cell phone case was found nearby. there is now a $100,000 reward for information leading to her body. a young asian man is sharing his story tonight of being attacked and robbed in oakland. hagar tamat was getting food out about 11 o'clock near the fox theater in oakland last saturday night. he says he suddenly felt something hit the back of his head and he fell unconscious the next day. he woke up in the hospital bruised and beaten all of his belongings including his wallet and phone were gone. sagar believes he was targeted because he is nepalese and has a reason for speaking out. i need to be vocal about what happened to me. so later on the younger people or like people from my community

nepalese community can come forward and be like oh, yeah. this happened to me too, or there was this certain kind of attack. oakland police say there has been no determination if this is a hate crime, but tell abc 7 the investigation is ongoing zagar's girlfriend has set up a gofundme to help with medical bills since he will not be able to work as a ride share driver for least the next month. crews are making good progress against a wildfire burning since tuesday in napa county. cal fire says the so-called old fire that has burned 570 acres north of the silver. resort is now 85% contained crews are currently in the mop up stage the fire earlier caused air advisories and evacuations and road closures, but no structures or other property were damaged. cal fire is looking into whether a faulty pg&e power line sparked that fire. certainly something we keep an eye out on is the winds, especially when there is fire

celebrations happening now to mark queen elizabeth's platinum jubilee her 70th year on the throne abc news reporter inez de la catera tells us. race and concert highlighted today's events though. the queen herself didn't attend. the queen's mobility issues may be keeping her out of sight but that's not stopping her loyal subjects from celebrating her platinum jubilee 70 years on the throne. she's a massive inspiration. she's like the country's grandmother outside of buckingham palace a massive concert being held in her majesty's honor elite earlier in the day. it was off to the races with a special edition of the epsom derby one of the queen's favorite horse racing events her majesty watching it all from home after experiencing. discomfort during thursday's celebrations, i think given that she's given a lifetime time of service to a country. i think it's only fair that she can kind of enjoy the

we're looking towards the golden gate bridge and the bay so we still see some mid to upper 70s in santa rosa petaluma and napa and then fairfield and livermore still hanging on to the low 70s on our storm impact. we're ranking this storm of one out of five. it's a light system. it's moving in now and will continue through tomorrow morning. we could see light to moderate rain. most of the this is going to hit the north bay where they could get up to half an inch in some spots and then areas generally south of the golden gate bridge will be anywhere from a tenth of an inch to even zero amounts of rainfall. so here's a forecast animation. so nine o'clock tonight if you're heading out you have dinner plans we could see some more modern rainfall there north of ukiah and then the coast but notice we still say we say dry in san francisco and south of that until midnight then we start to see the scattered showers move through as a system slides south and brings rain to the peninsula and east bay but rainfall amounts are measly it

will clear out and we will have a dry. afternoon for sunday so anywhere to up to half an inch in some spots, maybe a quarter of an inch in santa rosa by tomorrow, maybe a tenth an inch or a little bit more and then you notice just a few hundreds of an inch for parts of the peninsula and in the south bay and east bay overnight lows will be really mild. the winds will be coming from the south. so it's going to feel muggy relative humidity will be a little bit higher so upper. low 60s around the bay half moon bay a little bit cooler at 55. then tomorrow's highs are going to be comfortable with cloudy conditions. we'll see some 60s around the bay to 70s low seventies and mid 70s around the bay and then our warmest spots will be in the upper 70s. and here's the accuweather seven day forecast. so storm level one for tonight through tomorrow morning is going to feel humid cloudy in the afternoon and then lots of sunshine all week long notice we get a little bit warmer, especially friday where temperatures inland will be near 100 degrees around the bay

11. finally now most of us don't think of cute and cuddly when we think of chp but officers were all about teddy bears today officers at the benicia chp headquarters joined volunteers to create teddy bear care packages for children. they're given to kids who are placed in the backseat of a first responders vehicle at accident scenes to help distract and calm them bobby's brigade organized the event. the charity says it has provided a teddy bear for every highway patrol first responder vehicle throughout california since 2012.
