authorities say a man was shot and killed at about 7:30 last night at monterey road. police have not released any other details. we will keep you posted. at least 11 are injured and people dead after a shooting infidel elvia overnight. gunshots were heard -- in philadelphia overnight. gunshots were heard just after midnight local time on a popular street. police saw several suspects shooting into a crowd. two guns have been recovered, no arrests made. police are looking for surveillance videos help identify the shooters. gun violence was in focus across the bay area this weekend, a group held on march calling for action across the golden gate bridge, demanding tougher gun legislation. we spoke with them and have a look at the uphill political battle over gun control. >> no more silence, and gun violence. reporter: hundreds of people marched across the golden gate

bridge come honoring victims of gun violence and calling for increased safety. >> i am here in solidarity with everyone trying to get the guns off the streets and out of the hands of children, make schools safe again. reporter: she lost two relatives to gun violence. >> i know what it is like. [inaudible] reporter: the event was organized by moms demand action, just days after a deadly mass shooting claimed the lives of 19 children and two teachers in texas. >> nothing has been done. this time, that cannot be true. reporter: president biden calling for a ban on assault weapons and enhanced backward checks. house committee approving a bill that would raise the age limit to 21 to buy semiautomatic rifles. a full house vote is scheduled next week, the bill has little chance of passing the senate.

>> they have told us what they want to do, the real beef is with the second amendment. >> i hope there is a cathartic moment we are waiting for in the senate. i prefer that moment. we will not stop if that moment does not happen. reporter: a congresswoman is a survivor of gun violence. she hopes there be a political compromise to keep schools and society safer. >> if we had 100 people dying in a plane every day, congress would be acting. somehow, because it happens with guns, it is ok? it is not ok. reporter: in san francisco, abc 7 news. liz: bay area law enforcement agencies are making gun owners and offer in an effort to get dangerous weapons off the street. marin is one of two counties to hold gone -- gun buyback events.

$100 for each handgun from a rifle or shotgun, no questions asked. they rounded up 500 guns in four hours. >> it starts the conversations at home about gun safety and whether or not they want guns in the home. if they do, how to secure them and properly store them, keep them safe. if they do not, this is a perfect event in which people can come in and turning guns. also get paid money. liz: this was the first gun buyback events since 2016. the number of weapons collected does not include stolen guns that were turned in. they will be stored in a police facility until they are destroyed. san mateo county hosted its own gun buyback program, law enforcement rounded up nearly 400 firearms, putting seven assault weapons and 12 ghost guns that did not have a commercial serial number, which makes the weapon untraceable. in the north bay, please are looking for the man who threatened to shoot up a bar.

it happened at about 11:30 friday at flooring donkey in downtown. the man was gone by the time police arrived, the threat was enough to leave the bar and several others closing early for the night. police started an investigation and increased patrol in the area. we want to warn you some may find the next video hard to watch. you're getting a first look at the deadly confrontation between police in seattle and the minute the center of the disappearance of alexis gabe. -- man at the center of the disappearance of alexis gabe. this video shows the moment officers went to arrest marshall jones on wednesday. they served a warrant and say jones came to the door armed with a large knife. officers opened fire and he was killed. he was the ex-boyfriend of alexis gabe, the woman who has been missing since january. investigators said this week

that overwhelming evidence leads them to believe jones killed alexis at his home in antioch. she was last seen leaving his home, her cell phone case was found nearby. there is a 100,000 dollar reward for information leading to her body. a young man is sharing his story of being robbed and attacked in oakland. he was getting food around 11:00 saturday night near the fox theater in oakland. he says he suddenly felt something hit the back of his head and fell unconscious. the next day, he woke up in the hospital, bruised and beaten. all of his belongings were gone. he believes he was targeted because he has a reason for speaking out. >> i need to be vocal about what happened to me. the younger people, people from my community, can come forward and be like oh yeah, this happened to me, too. there is this attack. liz: police say there have been

no determination if this is a hate crime. they say the investigation is ongoing. his girlfriend set up a gofundme to help with medical bills since he will be able to work for the next month. san francisco police chief is a job well done, calling a rare press conference to showcase department efforts in solving several recent killings. please acknowledge their battling the public's perception and violent crime is running rampant in the city. >> this is a big deal, to arrest for individuals who took three lives. reporter: san francisco police chief making a rare weakened appearance to make a point, the streets are a little safer. >> i hope it makes people breathe easier, feel better that these people are in custody. reporter: flanked by homicide investigators and officers, he pressed on growing concerns over

public safety. >> what this is about is ensuring people that we are out there working, investigating cases, solving them when we have the evidence. holding people accountable. as much as we can. reporter: for arrests in three days involving three homicides, starting with the stabbing death of a 45-year-old man in april. >> we followed several leads, including reviewing surveillance video from the area. reporter: an arrest coming days ago followed by two more and another stabbing death friday afternoon. >> there are multiple third-party bystander witnesses on scene who provided video evidence of what occurred. reporter: saturday morning, another arrest and another stabbing death of a 21-year-old on june 1. >> this morning, i received a call from a sergeant stating

we sat down with them at their home and bring you the story you will see exclusively here on abc 7. reporter: for the past several weeks, she and her girlfriend have spent day and night hunting for baby formula. not because they have a child of their own, but to send it out to others desperately in need. for weeks, a closure at a michigan plant has caused a massive shortage nationwide. something they were not aware of until coming across a facebook post one day on their way to costco. >> it just kind of snowballed from there. reporter: during the trip, the pair who call alameda home were able to find some of the formula people online are desperately searching for. they decided to buy some and send it out. >> there are a lot of bad things happening in the world that i cannot personally do anything to fix. this was so can create, i could go to a store, buy a thing of

formula, send it to a parent. that kid is fed. reporter: they say they have spent about $10,000 on everything from formula to cast shipping costs. they sent out 117 boxes to people in 28 states. while they have gotten some money back, they say they will never not send a case at the people simply can't afford to pay. >> the things we hear and see her heartbreaking. mothers reaching out, saying they were concerned they were going to hospitalize their baby. reporter: one recipient was a long island, new york resident saying with money tight and a few options available, she was out to her last portion of formula for her four-year-old -- four-month-old daughter. >> i remember my initial comment was saying she was our angel, because we are struggling with -- my daughter can only take a certain formula. reporter: they say even though they are determined to help as

many people as they can nationwide, they want to ensure their actions are not negatively impacting people in the bay area. >> we will not take the last one from here, we've seen enough families and met enough people that we want to protect anyone we can from the experience of an empty shelf. reporter: it has been exhausting, they say it has been rewarding. that is where they plan on continuing their efforts until the shortage is over. >> it has shown us we have the capabilities and the resources to make a change. moving forward, we will continue in some fashion. liz: in the north bay, local jeopardy champion amy schneider made history this weekend. she is the first openly transgender grand marshal of the sonoma county pride parade in santa rosa. 50 groups took part in the parade, including city officials, human rights advocates and ethnic groups. this year's theme, we are

probably nothing, they allow russia to say it is not isolated. liz: the comments came exactly 100 days after pressure first invaded his country. we reached out to the san jose mayor for comment but have not heard back. coming up, there is mounting concern over gas prices and inflation. secretary of transportation sits down and talked about economic plans and the effort to avoid a recession. you can watch the full interview at eight :00 this morning right here on abc 7. new details emerging about the investigation into the deadly school shooting in uvalde as more victims are laid to rest. we have the story. reporter: the school board says that elementary school permanently close its doors following the mass shooting that left 19 children and two teachers dead. >> that will not be a school for children moving forward. reporter: less than one minute

before the gunman entered the building, a school employee pressed an internal alarm on a cell phone, setting off a chain of alerts within the school warning system of an active shooter. seconds later, the shooter was inside. the latest details emerging following a report from the new york times that says school district police chief arrived at the scene without his police radio. authorities say the chief wrongly believed it was a barricaded subject and no longer an active shooter situation. despite 911 calls still coming in from the classroom where the gunman was. one of the calls from a 10-year-old student, quietly telling a dispatcher quote my teacher is dead. please send help. send help for my teacher. she was shot, but still alive. three more victims will be laid to rest this weekend. i'll just 10 years old. in san antonio, the community gathered for a stand with uvalde

liz: san francisco's castro theatre is about two mark its 100th anniversary. a special movie screening started this week to celebrate. it opened june 22, 1922. the anniversary countdown is underway, featuring the most iconic movies from the early decades of the theater. friday's movies came from the 1920's, saturdays will be from the 1930's, including the adventures of robin hood and unaided the opera. especial happy birthday event will be held the 22nd with movies filmed in san francisco. the escape from alcatraz triathlon begins on alcatraz
