let's start with a look at the weather. we are also tracking rain. lisa: super exciting. for once, the forecast models verifying with the moderate rain in the north bay. we are taking you toward highway one, santa rosa, calistoga, and st. helena. highway 12, you have had the rain throughout the morning hours. westward along the coast, it certainly has not disappointed but as we get further south around marin county, some spotty showers and slick out there. even though we have seen the rain in the east bay and the south bay measurable amounts overnight, right now we are looking at it offshore. there is still more to come. it is a level 1 system. anywhere from one quarter of an inch there to less than 1/10 elsewhere. look at mount tam. 62 in the city. 56 in san jose. from emeryville, you can see the clouds where temperatures are muggy and it will stay that way

throughout the day. we will talk about rain totals and look ahead which includes some big-time heat for the upcoming work week. liz: thank you. san jose police are investigating a deadly shooting, authorities say a man was shot and killed at about 7:30 last night at monterey road. police have not released any other details. we will keep you posted. at least 11 are injured and three are dead after a mass in philadelphia overnight. gunshots were heard just after midnight local time. police saw several suspects shooting into a crowd. two guns have been recovered, no arrests made. police are looking for surveillance to help them identify the shooters. gun violence was in focus across the bay area this weekend, a group held on march calling for action across the golden gate bridge, demanding tougher gun legislation.

cornell barnard, abc 7 news. liz: bay area law enforcement agencies are making gun owners an offer in an effort to get dangerous weapons off the marin is one of two counties to hold gun buyback events. $100 each for a rifle or shotgun, no questions asked. they rounded up 500 guns in four hours. >> it starts the conversations at home about gun safety and whether or not they want guns in the home. if they do, how to secure them and properly store them, keep them safe. if they do not, this is a perfect event in which people can come in and turn in their guns. and not only that, but also get paid money. liz: this was the first gun buyback event since 2016. the number of weapons collected does not include stolen guns that were turned in. they will be stored in a police facility until they are destroyed. san mateo county hosted its own

gun buyback program yesterday. law enforcement rounded up nearly 400 firearms including seven assault weapons and 12 ghost guns that did not have a commercial serial number, which makes the weapon untraceable. in the north bay police are looking for the man who threatened to shoot up a bar. it happened at about 11:30 friday at the roaring donkey. the man was gone by the time police arrived, the threat was enough to leave the bar and several others in the area to close early for the night. police started an investigation and increased patrol in the area. we want to warn you some may find the next video hard to watch. we are getting our first look at the deadly confrontation between police in seattle and the man at the center of the disappearance of alexis gabe. this video shows the moment officers went to arrest marshall jones on wednesday. they served a warrant and say

jones came to the door armed with a large knife. officers opened fire and he was killed. jones was the ex-boyfriend of alexis gabe, the woman who has been missing since january. investigators said this week that overwhelming evidence leads them to believe jones killed alexis at his home in antioch. she was last seen leaving his home, her cell phone case was found nearby. there is a $100,000 reward for information leading to her body. a young asian man is sharing his story of being robbed and attacked in oakland. he was getting food around 11:00 last saturday night near the fox theater in oakland. he says he suddenly felt something hit the back of his head and fell unconscious. the next day, he woke up in the hospital, bruised and beaten. all of his belongings including his wallet and phone were gone. he believes he was targeted

because he is asian and he has a reason for speaking out. >> i need to be vocal about what happened to me. the younger people, people from my community, the nepalese community, can come forward and be like oh yeah, this happened to me, too. there is this attack. liz: police say there has been no determination if this is a hate crime. they say the investigation is ongoing. his girlfriend set up a gofundme to help with medical bills since he will not be able to work as a ride-share driver for the next month. san francisco police chief is a job well done, calling a rare press conference to showcase department efforts in solving several recent killings. police acknowledge they are battling the public's perception and violent crime is running rampant in the city. >> this is a big deal, to arrest individuals who took three lives. san francisco -- reporter: san francisco police

chief making a rare weakened appearance to make a point, the streets are a little safer. >> i hope it makes people breathe easier, feel better that these people are in custody. reporter: flanked by homicide investigators and patrol officers, the chief pressed on growing concerns over public safety. >> what this is about is ensuring people that they are officers out there working, investigating cases, solving them when we have the evidence. holding people accountable as much as we can. reporter: four arrests in three days involving three homicides, starting with the stabbing death of a 45-year-old man in april. >> we followed several leads, including reviewing surveillance video from the area. reporter: an arrest coming days ago followed by two more and another stabbing death friday afternoon. >> there are multiple

>> here is a live look outside. look how dreary it is. we need the rain. someone is walking on the golden gate bridge. good for them. after being closed for four months, abbott restarted production at the baby formula factory. two bay area women have stepped up spending thousands of dollars to ship formula to people around the country. tim johns sat down with them at their home and bring you the story you will see only here on abc7. tim: for the past several weeks, megan and her girlfriend have spent day and night hunting for baby formula. not because they have a child of their own, but to send it out to others desperately in need. for weeks, a closure at a

michigan plant has caused a massive shortage nationwide. something they were not aware of until coming across a facebook post one day on their way to costco. >> it just kind of snowballed from there. tim: during the trip, the pair who call alameda home were able to find some of the formula people online are desperately searching for. they decided to buy some and send it out. a small gesture that would soon turn into a massive undertaking. >> there is a lot of bad things happening in the world right now that i cannot do anything to fix. this was so concrete. i can go to a store. i can buy formula. i can send it to a parent. that kid is fed. tim: they said they have spent about $10,000 on everything from formula to gas to shipping costs. they sent out 117 boxes to people in 28 states. while they have gotten some money back, they say they will

never send a case to people who simply can't afford to pay. >> the things we hear and see are heartbreaking. mothers reaching out, saying they were concerned they were going to hospitalize their baby. tim: one recipient was breonna of long island, new york. with few options available, she was out to her last portion of formula for her four-month-old daughter. >> i remember my initial comment was saying she was our angel, because we are struggling with -- my daughter can only take a certain formula. tim: they say even though they are determined to help as many people as they can nationwide, they want to ensure their actions are not negatively impacting people in the bay area. >> we will not take the last one from here because we have seen enough families and met enough people that we want to protect anyone we can from the experience of an empty shelf. tim: while the experience has

been exhausting, they say it has been rewarding. that is why they plan on continuing their efforts until the shortage is over. >> it has shown us we have the capabilities and the resources to make a change. i think moving forward, we will continue in some fashion. tim: in alameda, tim johns, abc 7 news. liz: in the north bay, local jeopardy champion amy schneider made history this weekend. she is the first openly transgender grand marshal of the sonoma county pride parade in santa rosa. about 50 groups took part in the parade, including city officials, human rights advocates and ethnic groups. this year's theme, we are family. it represents reunion following the covid pandemic. the parade was an opportunity for the community to heal after a challenging couple of years. >> such a joy in the world we live in with all the anger and gun violence and misery going on. to see this great joy and pride today.

bay. that is where we thought it would be but we are certainly helping back with all of those dry fuels and live doppler 7 has green to show you and the level 1 system to stay with us. you can see the activity toward santa rosa but there have been spotty showers and precip has been accumulating elsewhere. st. helena is in the wet weather. some light to moderate rain by highway 29 and highway 12 through santa rosa, mark west springs and toward the coastline from bodega bay to dillon beach, consistent wet weather and a few sales over southern marin, san rafael, even 580, the richmond san rafael bridge, toward the altamont pass and a few isolated showers. as we widened the view, pretty quiet from the east bay to the south bay but there is more offshore. santa cruz mountains has picked up a couple hundredths.

they met a training facility three years ago and built a friendship. they have bonded over photography and they have become rising stars. this nba season, they established a working relationship. he calls himself his personal photographer and storyteller and has taken thousands of photos of everything basketball and beyond. >> the travels, the hikes. whatever we decide to do, we have everything documented for our sake. amanda: hejiminez has had no professional training, but says back in 2015, when he was a teenager battling depression, he picked up a camera to help him view life through a different lens. every day since, his work on his -- he has worked on his craft and says he is blessed to capture such monumental moments.

inez: overnight a massive concert to mark the platinum jubilee. thousands gathering to celebrate the 70 year rain. elton john, diana ross, alicia keys, then mel miranda and the cast of hamilton, and queen. the queen did not attend. she has been suffering from mobility issues which has resulted in her missing several events. the palace thinks she experienced some discomfort during celebrations. thursday >> she has given a lifetime of service to the country, it is only fair she can enjoy the celebrations in a dignified and comfortable manner at home. inez: her majesty made a surprise virtual appearance during the big show, alongside paddington bear. the royal family was out in full force, prince william using his address to talk about climate change.

of alerts. seconds later, the shooter was inside the school. these details emerging following a report from "the new york times" that says the police chief arrived at the scene without his police radio. authorities say the police chief wrongly believed it was a barricaded subject and no longer an active shooter situation despite 911 calls coming in from inside the classroom where the gunman was. one of those calls from a 10-year-old student telling a 911 dispatcher, "my teacher is dead. please send help. send help for my teacher. she is shot, but still alive." three more victims will be laid to rest this weekend. all just 10 years old. in san antonio the community gathered for a stand with uvalde event. one of the goals is to urge people to make their voices heard at the ballot box. >> if this does not get us

very muggy out there. as we look out toward the export-oriented camera, you can see the gray sky -- the exploratorium camera, you can see the gray sky. 65 in concord. no wind will add to the heavier out there throughout the day so we have light to moderate showers this morning. isolated showers throughout the early afternoon. monday and cloudy for the rest of the day. summerlike heat returns in parts of the day tomorrow. let's look at the next several hours where you will notice that we still are looking at perhaps some isolated showers into the 9:00, 10:00, 11:00 hour. even noon. partly cloudy conditions and with a little bit of sun, we will easily be in the 70's. overall, anyone could see a few drops out there. the focus will be along the coastal hills of north bay. half moon bay has picked up over 1/10 of an inch. certainly some good news. highs today with all the cloud cover, the muggy conditions from

west, the sierra snow survey takes on an almost survival quality. so does the gauging of our streams and reservoirs. what if a single measurement could give us a picture of all the sources together, along with nearly every drop of water on the surface of the planet? enter the nasa swat satellite program. >> for the first time ever, it will see rivers, lakes, reservoirs and wetlands. mike: it stands for surface, water and ocean topography. cedric david is a global hydrology specialist at nasa jpl in pasadena and a scientist on the project. he says the satellite, scheduled to launch later this year, will employ a special radar. >> this is a radar that shoots a beam coming down, the frequency of that beam bounces on water and not so much on anything else. mike: he says the instruments will be able to survey the earth's continents approximately every 10 days, producing high resolution measurements of areas like the florida everglades or rivers and marshes in the sacramento san joaquin delta and
