have really rocked the san jose community. one of them happened at a grocery store leading to a tragic death. the other happened in a library with children inside a suspects in both shootings are still on the run abc 7 news reporter zach fuentes has the latest on those investigations and why experts say it's still critical that we continue to look at those types of locations as safe spaces. it's a quiet afternoon in this east san jose neighborhood home of hillview library a big difference from the scene neighbors saw on monday. nothing happened in this neighborhood before like this. so it was really shocking and surprising for us that afternoon two men chased the third into the library while shooting at him the victim is expected to survive two suspects are still at large. it comes after this shooting sunday at a san jose safeway killing employee manny. we saw police say the circumstances are still under investigation the search for that suspect also continues all of this coming at a time when more tragic shootings have happened nationwide what are

management is handling this situation abc 7 news reporter news, pena spoke with tenants. and the buildings manager about the timeline for a fix. since friday night over 600 residents a 33 tehama in san francisco have been in tenants in nearby hotels, but last night multiple residents like andrew were asked to leave their hotel rooms the hotel told us the hines were actually refusing to pay for the week. there are only paying day by day. we had nowhere to stay so we were in the middle of as you can imagine eight o'clock 8:30 in the middle of the tenderloin. just walking into hotels trying to find somewhere tyler patterson said he has the hotel room for the rest of the but many like him are growing frustrated over what they say is poor communication by the company hundreds keeping each other updated via social media, i think about 200 residents in a group. we spoke to paul parody heinz senior management director. he said the building remains uninhabitable and hotel rooms are in short supply.

conducted across the state today as firefighters prepare for a heatwave later in the week and do some last. training. yeah abc 7 news reporter david louis was on hand for a prescribed burn in san mateo county where fire danger is rising. it takes a lot of planning including an environmental report a briefing on protected wildlife and favorable weather conditions. all factors were favorable on the sunny morning with a heat wave forecast later in the week. that could raise fire risk it surprising to see this much tinder dry grass in the san francisco watershed so often blanketed by coastal fog crews from cal fire, san mateo county fire and the state's conservation corps were here to do a prescribed burn that allows for an inspection of the dam at san andreas lake and for training. especially for younger firefighters this right here is a perfect opportunity for them to get comfortable in their

positions so that when these larger fires break out later in the summer, they're ready. watch what our fires doing is we put fire down watch how the grass reacts to it. okay after our preliminary test burn the cruise moved into the target zone setting the dry grass on fire with torches and the drip torches are a combination of gasoline and diesel that are consumed combined in a way that they kind of penetrate the grass. they're out there using their techniques either strips or spikes or v-shapes or chevrons to really burn in a safe manner constant weather monitoring tracked wind direction. so the crews wouldn't be in the path of advancing flames as the fire burned toward the crest of the dam up pristine lake lies on the other side. this is the water supply for san francisco much of the peninsula and parts of the east bay. the last thing they want is to have a wildfire breakout in this region and have the soot pollute the water. a large cloud of smoke was created, but it quickly dissipated. we like to say we would much rather have this good smoke right now than bad smoke in a
