a new round of campaign work has already begun. zach prentice spoke with both candidates about their strategy moving forward. >> after months of campaigning, the mayoral races down to two candidates. a candidate who had to get more than half of the vote outright. initial results show cindy chavez getting more than 39% of the vote. san jose city councilmember matt mayhem got just over 32. now they move to the november general election. of the mayoral candidates, their campaign spent the most money and the race is entering its new stage as they face off. between her current stint as county supervisor and one as council member, she's worked in local government for more than two decades. he was elected to santa fe -- san jose city council in 2020 and has a background working in tech startups and nonprofits. the both want to tackle issues like homelessness, crime, and affordable housing, they tout

>> a southern california man in custody accused of plotting to assassinate supreme court justice brett kavanaugh. u.s. marshals arrested the 26 year old of simi valley outside of brett kavanaugh's home. they say he stepped out of a cab around 1:00 a.m. dressed in black and carrying a backpack and suitcase. within minutes, the fbi claims he called 911, telling the dispatcher he was having suicidal thoughts and was there to kill brett kavanaugh. authorities immediately arrested him. in his backpack they found a pistol, ammunition, and burglary tools.

this was the reaction from one of his neighbors. >> glad it happened way over there and no one was hurt. just pray for the outcome and the family, because they are going through a lot. >> according to authorities, he said he wanted to kill cavanaugh because he was angry over the uvalde shooting and the supreme court's leaked draft opinion suggesting justices plan to overturn roe v. wade. an internal memo from the department of homeland security warns increasingly dangerous threats partially stoked by the pending scotus decision. ro khanna is one of several lawmakers urging democrats to approve legislation enhancing police protection for justices and their families. >> it is appalling that anyone would consider committing violence against a supreme court justice. i opposed his nomination, and there is a way to do that in this country. it is the democratic process. but to threat and harm, it is
