day with 70's at the coast, 80's along the bay shoreline and 90's inland. the heat will ramp up tomorrow. friday, a heat advisory and excessive heat mornings for a large part of the bay area. we will talk about how hot you will get and preview the weekend forecast in a few minutes. kumasi: the house select committee investigating the attack on the capital going public with its findings. what are we expecting? >> this is the first of at least six hearings that the committee will hold. lawmakers will show never before seen material from that day into witnesses will testify. the panel say it will lay out how former president trump and allies provoked the attack and worked to turn over the election. >> the idea that this was a rowdy demonstration that spontaneously got a little bit out of control is absurd.

hit with fees as part of a crackdown by the bridge authority. we are at the bay bridge toll plaza with more. >> good morning. it is something drivers do not want to hear. the bridge authority says they have had a staggering amount of unpaid tolls and late fees over the last couple years. the times are reporting that they paused issues in 20 and waved at the late fees as part of the policy to move the debt to the dmv. the agency says they are getting a backlog of unpaid tolls that need to be paid and that they want to receive $50 million in unpaid tolls and levy unpaid penalties.there is urgency to do this because the dmv only accepts transactions object three years old. advocates for drivers without fast track say that drivers are being unfairly penalized because

the agency sends toll bills to under tied to registrations. sometimes addresses are not listed correctly with the dmv, and sometimes they are listed for a vehicle that has not been updated and already sold. so there are issues with that they want to see taken care of before anything goes on further, but the tollway authority would like to get money they have lost. reggie: you have been warned. if misery loves company, the chase center was the place to be last night. dub nation filled the arena, hoping for a win, but it was not meant to be. the warriors lost. tickets for game four are on sale for the watch party. watch parties are also outside. you have to preregister for those. kumasi: and going to the east coast, a diehard presence among a rowdy crowd there. we are in boston with more.

kumasi: a fire badly damaged a church in south bay on south 10th street. witnesses eluded police -- other police to immune success affected -- alerted police to a man suspected of starting the fire. they will host outdoor services on sunday. reggie: the mayor says people have reached out to her office to express interest in becoming the interim district attorney. she will appoint somebody to take over for chesa boudin. she says as she considers who she will appoint to take over, she is getting recommendations from many people who still have challenges with the criminal justice system. >> getting a perspective of

issue on bart. jobina: they are experiencing a computer outage, an entire failure within the system so the trains are not running right now. officials say to seek other forms of transportation. they added new notes. mutual aid is being provided by ac transit, contra costa connection and a sand trans at this time. if you show up to the bart station, instead of going to the platform for the train, there will be buses and ultimate forms of transportation. if have not left the home yet, i recommend carpooling. drew: not great. but not a bad morning if you are taking a ferry. we are in the 50's and 60's. here is a look outside this morning where we have a beautiful sky, sunshine in-store, and we will be warming up quickly. by lunchtime, 70's and 80's, and we continue to rise. widespread 80's by 4:00 p.m.,

into the 90's in the hottest spots inland. hotter weather will arrive tomorrow. so, we will have a heat advisory and an excessive heat warning in effect for a larger portion of the bay area tomorrow, including much of the south bay, where we have a risk of heat-related illnesses. we are tracking hot weather to finish the week. we will take a look at how hot, and how long those temperatures will stick around, coming up in a few minutes. kumasi: a southern california man is in custody, accused of plotting to assassinate justice kavanaugh. u.s. marshals arrested nicholas roski outside of kavanaugh's home yesterday and investigators say he showed up at the house with a pistol, mo and burglary tools. he told the dispatchers he was suicidal and was there to kill kavanaugh. this was reaction from one of his neighbors. >> i am glad it happened over

there and nobody was hurt. i pray for the family because they are going through a lot right now. kumasi: authorities say he was angry about the uvalde shooting and the leaked draft opinion on roe v. wade. the department of homeland security has warned about threats against supreme court justices ahead of the decision, and that is one reason why democrats are urging the house to pass legislation to enhance security for justices and their families. >> it is appalling anybody would consider committing violence against a supreme court justice, including justice kavanaugh. i opposed his nomination, and there is a way to do that in this country, it is the democratic process. but the threat of harm is outrageous and i am concerned about the safety of all of our supreme court justices. kumasi: the bill has been stalled in the house ever since the senate passed it shortly after protests, after the draft

week. reggie: the house approved gun regulations following an emotional hearing on capitol hill. this has basically no chance of passing in the senate. jobina: yes. five republicans joined house democrats in approving the bill but it has opposition in the senate. the bill would raise the minimum age for purchasing a semi automatic rifle, ban large capacity magazines. and he came after powerful testimony from families and victims of the uvalde and buffalo massacres. lawmakers also heard from a pediatrician who saw firsthand the damage in ar-15 can do. president biden appeared on jimmy kimmel live, saying this can only be solved in the voting booth. >> we have got to make sure it becomes a voting issue. it has got to be in issue where you decide your position on the issue with your candidate for house or senate, on what we will

do with assault weapons, and they can have 300 rounds in a magazine. what you say on those things will determine how i vote for you. jobina: there is a bipartisan group of senators working on a bill, which could see in agreement on a framework by tomorrow. reggie: a handful of gun safety bills went before state lawmakers. as a reporter tells us, the bush is on locally but the hope is the impact will be felt across the nation. >> because i could not save my baby girl. reporter: from testimony in washington to the capital in state, the push is on to pass laws to prevent gun violence. >> it is intense. reporter: this is a volunteer with moms demand action, facing the committee on wednesday in support of a handful of bills. >> this is policy change. we need it to happen and here is why. and everybody is feeling raw. reporter: image after image of

shootings adding to the urgency in getting legislation passed, from requiring tougher legislation on ghost guns to education for parents on storing guns. this alameda county mother says it is working. >> i was pleased in looking at the enrollment packet in my school district that we lobbied for this resolution, and there it was and i signed the form i read on the importance of storing a firearm safely. reporter: she says it school shootings are a big driver. she began volunteering when her daughter was born. this year, she starts kindergarten. >> i want to look at her when she goes to school and tell her we are working on it. >> we cannot focus on a one-size-fits-all solution. reporter: a local nonprofit in oakland is sponsoring a bill requiring medi-cal to provide

health services. >> opportunities for those who have been violently injured, that they have the resources they need so that they do not lean into the temptation for retaliation. >> representing strong opposition. reporter: while lawmakers heard opposition, those in support are hopeful that the bills will make it to the governor's desk and potentially lead the way nationwide. >> this moment has activated and mobilized a lot of people, so even if we see inaction again, as disappointing as it would be, we have people around the country ready to say, no more. kumasi: a tribute is growing for a man killed while working at a safeway in san jose. you can see the candles, flowers and pictures at this memorial on the sidewalk outside of the door on hamilton avenue. 24-year-old manny was a shot and killed inside of the safeway on sunday morning.

the shooting happened as he was trying to stop a man stealing liquor. that search is still on for the gunmen. -- gunman. in the east bay, racism is now a public health issue. money has been approved for the department of race and equity to hire people to research the connection between racism and public health. the chronicle reports that studies have found direct links between higher rates of hypertension, inflammation and heart disease. they say on average residents and historically white neighborhoods live at approximately 15 years longer than those in communities of color. reggie: president biden says 2032 our national parks can i'll be plastic free. the secretary of the interior issued an order banning single use plastic items from public lands. it includes the golden gate bridge and port radius.

reggie: san francisco has a plan to potentially offering shelter to every homeless person in the city. the board of supervisors approved the plan unanimously into be take a look now at what is next. reporter: homelessness has plagued leaders across san francisco for decades. the epidemic has reached crisis proportions today. >> it is acute in california because we have relatively so few exits from the street immediately. reporter: to address the problem, a proposed place for all ordinance, asking for a form of shelter for every homeless person in the city. tuesday night committee voted to create an implantation plan for the ordinance by the end of the year. >> we cannot address encampments if we do not have adequate shelter to offer people. reporter: the housing every

unsheltered person ordinance will not be easy says the director of the tenderloin house and clinic. >> we can make inroads, improvements to reduce homelessness, but the big picture is the money has never been there. reporter: he says one problem is the city has failed to build enough shelters for those on housed. >> we have just thousands of dollars. reporter: but even with adequate housing, substance abuse and the mental health among the homeless population must also be addressed. shaw says a good number of those on the streets do not want to be housed. >> we started in 1998 and the population of who we house now is absolutely dramatically different than 10 years ago. reporter: while officials grapple again with how to address one of san francisco's most pervasive issues, the city waits for solutions, hoping to end the problem once and for
