burned 200 acres and is now 75% contained that's according to cal fire ground crews will be there for several hours more and they're asking people to avoid the area because there are road closures. good evening. thank you for joining us. i'm dan ashley this special edition of abc 7 news glad to have you with us that fire. is just a small sample of what we fear, especially as the temperatures rise and the heat peaks tomorrow abc 7 news meteorologist. sandy patel is here with the forecast india. yeah, dan. it's that time of year when not only those temperatures rising but the fire danger as well. so let's take a look at the high temperatures for today. we got you up into the mid and upper 90s inland. it was definitely hot mild along the coast. it's only going to get hotter. so an excessive heat warning has been posted. mono county it has been extended through saturday night. it's really for tomorrow morning at 11 am until 11 pm saturday expecting those temperatures in the low to mid-100s significantly increasing the

risk of heat, illnesses inland areas and lake county under a heat advisory tomorrow 11 am to 10 pm temperatures will be in the low 90s to mid-100s a good 10 to 25 degrees above where they should be for this time of year. and that certainly will elevate the possib. of illnesses. i'll be back to let you know exactly how hot in your neighborhood and how long this is going to last coming up, dan. all right, sandia. thank you. see you shortly a pg&e had another day in court today facing criminal charges in shasta county for the deadly zog fire. that fire was sparked by a pg&e power line in the hills above reading in september of 2020 investigative reporter brandon rittiman from our abc station in sacramento was in court today for the companies plea. hey, jenny, pleaded not guilty to dozens of criminal charges but prosecutors say this is another example of pg&e committing criminal. diligence and we're going to make sure that pg&e is held

responsible criminally. and potentially as well civilly in the courtroom today. we saw the father and grandparents of little fela macleod the eight year old girl who died in the zog fire alongside her mother elena in a pickup truck running from their homes two of their neighbors died in this fire as well kenneth vossen and karen king both burned in the zog fire. which burned in september of 20 prosecutors say that fire was started by a tree that pg&e should have cut down pg&e has a legal duty to cut and trim trees that pose a threat to power lines. in this case. the tree was actually known to pg&e prosecutors say it had been marked as need. be removed years before the zog fire. it's certainly goes to their reckless conduct and knowing about the tree knowing that it was a danger shasta county district attorney. stephanie. bridget was part of a group of district attorneys who settled with pg&e in civil court earlier this year for the massive dixie

fire that burned in five, california counties. she said unlike that fire this one caused people to die, and that's why she refused to engage in a settlement. she said this needs to be handled as a homicide case pg&e has its preliminary hearing set of ways off in this one. it's going to be january 18th of next year in shasta county. i'm brandon rittiman. now the charges in the zog fire are against the pg&e corporation. not any of the companies executives prosecutors say they are still investigating and an arrest could still be made if not, the pg&e corporation would be facing a maximum fine of $10,000 if convicted a statement. company in regards to today's arraignment reads quote. we accept cal fires finding that a tree falling into our equipment started the fire, but we do not believe there was any criminal activity. tonight new details on what started is a really convenience and is now turning into something much worse hundreds of

people who live in a san francisco high-rise have been displaced for almost a week now after a water main break abc 7 news reporter loose pena has been on this story for days and has the latest on what went wrong and the timeline to fix it? we're learning new details about what went wrong a 33 tahama last friday today paul parody senior managing director at heinz the real estate development and management firm. that owns the building explained. is there any insight as to truly? what happened? what went wrong a water main that is part of the buildings fire sprinkler system failed at the top of the building. how it happened and why it happened is also part of our ongoing effort right now parody confirmed the building damages. worse than the anticid residents remain displaced almost a week later. it's very bad. we had thousands of gallons of water poured down through the building and in doing that it

got into the electrical system the elevator system tenant units and so the entire building had to be totally shut. so this is catastrophic multiple residents are claiming. this is not the first time there's been flooding issues in this building resident. tyler patterson said, there's been at least students in the last nine months a pipe that person a sixth floor. i'm on the second floor. there was serious flooding all throughout the unit that was in august of 2021. the second incident happened a month later during that time. tyler said at least six other units were also impacted. doing from residents that there have been flooding in the past that there have been issues with pipes in the building. it's incorrect. i am not aware of any issue like this has happened in the building lose san francisco's department of building inspection confirmed multiple inspectors have been at 33 to hama this week and set the costs remains under investigation the report categorized the building

as unsafe and listed water damage throughout the building the walls are you know wet where the elevators are like that's like going to produce mold the inspector reported 95 units have water damage for now hundreds of residents are still in limbo living in hotel rooms without any insight as to when they'll be able to go back to their apartments. we don't know how long it's gonna take. we're trying to figure that out in san francisco francisco loose peña abc 7 news. san francisco's public health department has announced three more probable cases of monkey pox residence these three cases follow first probable case last week that brings the total probable case count in san francisco to four in those reported today one person traveled within the us recently while the other two did not all three are in isolation and they're in good health. we're glad to say meantime at alameda county resident is being tested for suspected case of monkeypox as well. if that case is confirmed it

would be the first in alameda county. well now to a story you'll see only on seven two brutal home invas. robberies in the same day abc 7 news anchor deon lem sits down exclusively with two senior citizens who were attacked bound and forced into a bathroom as their home was ransacked for hours. this 82 yearld man who requested not to be identified by name shows us the gate multiple suspects jumped over to enter the san jose home. he shares with his wife last tuesday afternoon. she was watching her chinese soap opera. so she was like, i didn't even finish my last episode their daughter explains how one person covered her dad's head and then they actually use like like a tape or packing tape to cover their mouths and using their own belts bound their wrists and shoved them into this bathroom as they ransacked the home in her wallet. she maybe had $30 when they

focus remains on ukrainian refugees. those who fled from afghanistan last september are living in limbo and as abc 7 news reporter tara campbell explains. they are really worried about the future if you as lawmakers, don't take action soon. scenes of chaos last september people desperately fleeing amid the taliban takeover in afghanistan. nazrula. amirsai considers himself one of the lucky ones. i also one of them that fortunately able to come to the united states. he and his wife are among the tens of thousands of afghans landing in the united states now living in conquered california the new people new culture and new environment. computer scientist by trade and eager to work. so i able to get a job in the third month of my arrival to the united states and as rula has big hopes for his life here he plans on getting his master's degree and his wife is learning english and wants to go to
