as our reporter tells us, today's triple digit heat only worsens concerns in an area that is extremely dry from the drought. reporter: the temperatures, approaching triple digits. but it's also a warning sign for fire officials. >> we have been literally running from one fire to another for several weeks now. we have unfortunately had hundreds of acres burned in contra costa county. reporter: he has with the fire protection district. he says this week alone, there have been more than 20 vegetation fires. early friday afternoon, another fire broke out in brentwood. chp says it was probably started by a cigarette. friday's excessive springtime temperatures in the county make it one of the hottest places in the bay area. and one of the most vulnerable to wildfires. >> vegetation on the ground today is pretty doggone dry already. the heat only further

exacerbates that. reporter: this fire from ones they almost destroyed this neighborhood in antioch. fire officials say it was started by a lawnmower. >> the first thing i grabbed was my dog, then i started to remember everything i wanted to grab. >> the fact of the matter is, virtually every single one of the vegetation and grass fires that we respond to, they are all started by some type of human activity. reporter: he says the good thing is that these types of fires are preventable. he says residents should not, on a hot day, use power equipment outside, like lawnmowers, do not throw cigarettes outside, like on freeways, and caution with drillers. >> during this period especially of higher fire danger. reporter: the heat will be a concern throughout the weekend, they say. abc7 news. dan: some people had little chance for shade today from the

reaction is pouring in from the first primetime hearing of the house select committee investigating the jan. 6 capital attack -- capitol attack. we have coverage from washington. reporter: in the first televised hearing laying out their findings, the house select committee investigating jan. 6, arguing donald trump with the -- was at the center of a well-organized conspiracy to overturn the 2020 election. starting with trump's repeated false claims of election fraud, which the committee alleges culminated in the deadly capital riot. >> over multiple months, donald trump oversaw and coordinated a sophisticated seven part plan to overturn the presidential election and prevent the transfer of presidential power. reporter: the committee, playing footage of a rioters -- a rioter reading a tweet from then-president trump. shortly after, the mob began chanting "hang mike pence,"

which showed trump's a powerful influence over his supporters. also in theony edwards, capitol police officer knocked unconscious, after trying to hold the line against rioters. >> it was carnage. it was chaos. i can't even describe what i saw. reporter: the committee, arguing far-right groups like the oath keepers and the proud boys planned the insurrection for weeks and were among the first to breach the capitol's perimeter. documentary film maker, testifying he saw members of that group start to move toward the capitol, even before trump began speaking at his stop the steal rally. >> our main purpose is to show the american people a transfer of power cannot happen like this ever again. reporter: the next public hearing is monday, than they are expected to lay out more of their case that president trump and his advisors knew he had

dan: city as warriors fans head to chase center for the watch party. this is live from sky 7. we're just about 30 minutes away from our pregame coverage. and of course game four of the nba finals can only be seen right here on abc 7 so pumped up but first in other news today cdc and white house officials announced new details about monkeypox infections and their efforts to treat it abc 7 news reporter loose pena is in the newsroom with the latest information on local cases and how the pride parade loose will be. a key to informing our community yes, i'm doing today's meeting the cdc confirmed. there are 45 monkeypox cases in the country. that is more than twice. the number of cases identified last week. but even though it's spreading no one has died from this outbreak. today cdc officials dismissed the idea the monkey pox can be spread through the air monkeypox is not thought to linger in the air and is not typically

transmitted during short periods of shared airspace. the virus is not thought to spread through. questions such as having a casual conversation passing in the grocery store or touching the same items such as a doorknob california's department of public health confirmed eight cases of monkeypox at least five in the bay area. so my biggest concern is that we're four cases here in san francisco one putative in alameda county ucss infectious disease a specialist, dr. monica. gandhi said the cases have been mild and close contact is a consistent pattern for transmission. in the close respiratory contact that occurs during sex and people just need to be alert for these particular lesions the fever the big lymph nodes so that we can treat it dr. gandhi said the majority of cases are happening among men who have sex with men of these 1461 cases worldwide. there's an ongoing lancet review of all these cases and actually

pumps cranking out gas and just 69 cents a gallon the glitch went on for about three hours allowing one driver to fill up for just $14 ■thencallfriends and family to come do the same. yeah. i looked at the numbers and i seen it was 69 cents a gallon so you know what i did i hit that button and it started pumping and the dollar signs just stayed low turned into a like a circus within a matter of minutes. now the mistake was a misplaced decimal point on the electronic signs outside. the station always mind those decimal points, dan. tip well americans are tipping less now than ever before at least before the pandemic that's according to a report released this week with some bay area cities adding certain surcharges. you may have seen these tipping can get a little confusing abc 7 news reporters. zach fuentes looked into what is linked to that tipping declined. the pandemic and who it affects the most. service workers of the shops and restaurants up and down.

this street are working hard to help others relax much of their income relies on tips. but according to this report from credit cards.com people in the us are tipping less now than in 2019. well, it's the opposite of what i do. i i tip more because you people have been unemployed, you know, they've had difficult time but not everyone is this generous take a look at these numbers from the report in 2019 77% of us adults. always tipped servers that sit down restaurants, but this year that number has dropped to 73% inflation is cited as a major factor along with hiring shortages that make it difficult to hire top of the line service restaurant owner. randy musterer says the pandemic and staffing did impact his business and potential tips. they added an 18% gratuity to every check but recently removed it. so all of our staff they were concerned about removing that 18% for gratuity, but now they're excited because are seeing what people are all about and wanting the tip a little bit
