sequel to the 2018 rally following the parkland shooting. they marched in new york city the march for our lives group says more than 450 events were scheduled today in the us abc news reporter cornell bernard shows us how people from across the bay area join the effort. a call in san francisco to end gun violence this rally organized by students who have seen far too many bullets for many of us. we see more our ips than college degrees. i have a 12 year old we have children. we've seen the tragedies over and over again and their heartbreaking they're horrifying they're dying. there are no reason nine year old christian salala he's scared for his. especially i'm waiting for my brother because most of the school shootings happen in middle school and my brother's going in middle school this march for our lives rallied demanded changes in gun laws,

on the peninsula cries of enough echoed through the streets of redwood city. people demanding stronger gun laws gather at the city public library for a rally then holding signs and chanting they marched through the city. in the east bay people attended a march for our lives event at walnut creek civic park a conquered high school student helped organize. this event protesters said they wanted to stand in solidarity with thousands of people nationwide who are seeking tougher gun control measures. oakland's, very first gun buyback event in nine years has been called a success people showed up in droves outside at thy word ministries on international boulevard. to turning guns of all shapes sizes and calibers in exchange. they received gift cards worth anywhere from 100 to $300 depending on the size of the weapon. these guns will be melted and made into guarding tools that will be used to help beautify, oakland. officers are still telling the

number of guns collected and will share the numbers later this evening. today over 3,000 quilt panels were displayed in golden gate park each one representing a life loss to the aids epidemic this rare outdoor display marks the 35th anniversary of the national aids memorial quilt the last time it was displayed. with this many panels in san francisco was back in 1988 speakers today reminded the community that the crisis is still not over. oh, my friends were dying. the government did nothing our churches kicked us out. our families abandoned us this combination of homophobia and racism prevented us from moving the world forward. to confront the crisis cleve jones started the project back in 1987. now the quilt is considered the world's largest community arts project. it's memorial service will

continue until tomorrow afternoon. san mateo county celebrated pride month with a festival today the event at san mateo central park celebrated 10 years of pride on the peninsula organizers say the event has really grown over the years seeing where we started from year one to where we are. your town ten is wonderful. i'm glad that we're growing i'm glad that we are able to engage and interact with our community members here making a safe space for lgbtq. i plus community. today's pride event featured resource booths and musicians along with drag queens and the el camino realtors the lgbtq square dancing club of silicon valley. happening now is celebration of pride month the giants and la dodgers today became the first mlb teams to wear custom on-field pride baseball caps in the same game. the giants were the first team to incorporate pride colors into their uniform last year today. both teams shared a custom pride cap for their game at oracle

park and if you are looking to find pride ball caps, the giants dugout store will have limited availability. the giants are going to donate game used items and some in oil proceeds to lgbtq+ charities abc 7 news sports will have much more on the game that is happening right now. all right moving on to our toasty temperatures as we take a live look outside where yes, we saw above average highs once again across the bay area today sandy patel joining us now and sandia we do have a little bit of relief on the way. absolutely it is underway right now as we speak for the coast and bay in particular dion. let me show you those temperatures compared to 24 hours ago. it is 9 degrees cooler in santa rosa down six in oakland, san jose five degrees cooler and seven degree drop in concord. yes. it was still hot. inland with 90s which is where we're at in brentwood in fairfield right now, but 64 and half moon bay a refreshing sea breeze inland areas. so particularly solano county is still under an excessive heat

today on the east coast for a native son of san jose norman mineta. today's cer he brought together friends family and political heavyweights. always had a better vision about our country more perfect union. he always had knowledge about the subjects that he was talking about. so when he spoke we listened if we were smart we listened.

secretary minetta died last month that is home in maryland, although he had moved to the east coast his heart remained in his beloved hometown. every day i drive to work on the norman y, minetta, california highway 85 15 minutes from the minute a transportation institute at san jose state university i think you get the picture of san jose's regard for dad. secretary minetta will return home on wednesday. his ashes will rest in honor at san jose city hall and on thursday. another memorial is planned at the san jose civic auditorium. where former president bill clinton will speak then minetta will be laid to rest next to his parents and his siblings in the city. he called the valley of his dreams. a grand opening on the peninsula is building a better bay area by helping the community come together a ceremony today marked the opening of the new millbrae recreation center. this moment has been a long time

in the making in 2016 arson destroyed the previous community center that facility was considered the heart of the community by many city county and state officials were on hand for today's ribbon cutting. this will transform millbrae and bring the community together in a way. that is it's just really very very special. millbrae's new recreation facility is 24,000 square feet and includes a licensed preschool fitness center team game room arts center conference rooms and a community room. to the north bay now where smart service is expanding starting on monday. the rail transit agency says it is adding 10 trips every weekday for both northbound and southbound service that will increase the number of weekday trips to 36 while smart says demand is not quite back at pre-pandemic levels. it is expanding service due to increased ridership. well, just ahead extreme heat yesterday forced uc davis to

professional appearance for interviews in new civilian careers the california department of veterans affairs helps organize the event it is usually held in san diego and has helped more than 1,700 women over the past five years. happening tomorrow the stern grove festival opens with its first concert of the summer bay area legends tower of power and rapper too short kick things off at 2 pm. stern groves 85th music festival runs through august. 14th reservations open up 12 days before each sunday concert last year the final show of the year was canceled because of a water main break that flooded the site. well, once again some uc davis graduates will have to wait to receive their diplomas this time though. it's not because of covid friday's outdoor ceremony was canceled after it started due to extreme heat and exhaustion for hours attendees were sitting out in hot temperatures considering the heat conditions that we are all well.

if you're stepping out keep that in mind tomorrow afternoon. we are still looking at those gusty on shore winds, which will help. further cool the bay area obviously we've been dealing with the hot weather today again inland to live doppler 7 showing you the fog right near the coast here it is close up from our golden gate bridge camera and a look at those temperatures 67 in the city. it is 73 in oakland mountain view still warm along with santa clara 84 in san jose here. live view from our east bay hills camera. looking towards mount diablo claire's skies as we look in that direction upper 80s around santa rosa 92 in fairfield 89 in concord and a live view from our sutro tower camera seeing blue skies over san francisco coastal fog expands overnight. there is a possibility of sprinkles tomorrow morning and it is going to be breezy and noticeably cooler tomorrow if you're not noticing it yet. so the fog along the coast tonight will be moving in over the bay and then you'll notice that there's a cold front going through. northern california tomorrow morning that may actually just

bring an isolated shower or sprinkles to the northern end of our viewing area certainly drizzle possible along the coast and then a clean sweep by tomorrow afternoon evening. you are going to be seeing the sun but it's not going to be anywhere near the warmth that we experienced inland today morning temperature is in the 50s 60s watch out for that fog and a little bit of damp roadways afternoon highs it's going to be a mild one in the south bay 79 in san jose 74 milpitas 84 in gilroy on the peninsula mid-70s from palo alto to mountain view low 60s. here are coastside breezy lingering fog. certainly downtown. san francisco will see partly cloudy skies 67 degrees north bay temperatures 74 in vallejo, san rafael 76 in santa rosa in the east bay definitely more in the comfort zones. so you're looking at 70 in oakland and hayward inland areas. lead to in fairfield 77 degrees in livermore. here's a look at the accuweather 7-day forecast morning sprinkles giving way to a much cooler day bright and breezy for your monday and the warming trend
