this morning, you're going to feel that humid air. we're watching a cold front move through that's going to try bring us some isolated. first thing this morning, so the exploratorium camera stars and clouds out there. here's how the day is shaping up. it's mostly cloudy with some pockets of drizzle early on well, hang on to that cloud cover for much of the morning and mid temperatures later on this afternoon mourn the way of sunshine, but it will feel cooler out there 60s and 70s for most of us. so again today, it's humid out there 67 and city 70 in oakland 79 in san jose. we'll take a closer look at that drizzle and find drier weather moving in for the week ahead coming up in a few minutes liz. all right drew. thanks. the outcry against gun violence is being heard. the country they marched in parkland, florida. where in 2018 and expelled student opened fire inside marjory stoneman douglas high school killing 17 people events were also held in washington dc and new york city. the march for our lives group says more than 450 events were held across the country abc 7 news reporter cornell bernard shows us how people from across

the bay area join the effort. a call in san francisco to end gun violence this rally organized by students who have seen far too many bullets for many of us. we see more our ips than college degrees. 12 year old seen the tragedies over and over again and their heartbreaking they're horrifying they're dying. for no reason nine year old christian salalah says he's scared for his brother, especially on morning for my brother because most of the school shootings happen in middle school and my brothers going middle school this march for our lives rally demanded changes in gun laws, but we have to hold the senate we have to hold the house of representative responsible for making gun laws that are not going to lead to these mass shootings that we continue to have in our communities. in oakland hundreds march

through downtown demanding that their lives and safety become a priority the fact that i feel like we're i feel living as a hostage against the violence that are surrounded around deregulation of gun laws, and we're not trying to take people's guns. i'm a gun owner back in san go retired chp sergeant. angela. lunscombe is hoping for sensible gun laws, which might have prevented the killing of 19 children and uvalde, texas. got his hands on a gun and went and shot all those poor babies and their teachers. it has to stop in san francisco cornell bernard abc 7 news. on the peninsula cries of enough echo through the streets of redwood city. hey, the nra has got to go. people demanding stronger gun laws gathered at the city public library for a rally there. they held signs and chanted and

marched through the city. in the east bay people attended a march for our lives event at walnut creek's civic park a concord high school student helped organize. this one protesters said they wanted to stand in solidarity with thousands of people across the country who are seeking those tougher gun control measures oakland's first gun buyback event in nine years is being called a success people showed up and droves outside. that thy word ministries on international boulevard to turning guns of all sizes shapes and calibers in exchange. they received gift cards worth anywhere from a hundred to three hundred dollars depending on the size of the weapon. these guns will be melted and then made into gardening tools that will be used to help beautify. oakland officers are still tallying the total number of guns that they collected. hey, we're please held a rare open house to give the public a look at it specialized weaponry and other tools it was a show. know how held in hopes of educating the community about the public safety tools that hayward officers use during serious emergencies officers utilize rifles drones a robot

and armored vehicles when responding to major crimes under and an assembly bill that was passed in response to the killing of george floyd the department must get city approval to use some of this equipment. and now turning to the weather today is expected to be much cooler than the past few days, which will be a nice relief for some people as temperatures. across the bay area people were out and about just trying to find ways to stay cool abc 7 news reporter. tim johns has more as the hot saturday sun beat down on the bay area for yet another day people from walnut creek to lafayette were doing what they could to stay cool in the east bay. it's just a little bit hotter than what we're used to well some headed to public parks to socialize and have a refreshing drink others like ralph and sheila etheridge decided to head to the lafayette reservoir. anti-couples. say the cool breeze there mates it the perfect place for an afternoon walk. try not to overdo it if you're a little older, you know to if you get feeling a little dizzy.

a lot of people didn't want to travel internationally because of the testing requirement this provides them with peace of mind so that they know when they're traveling they can make it home. i'm thankful that we are relaxing that i'm vaccinated. i feel good. well there wouldn't be my preference. i would prefer to have testing still the cdc says the requirement is no longer necessary. thanks to vaccines and treatments but still more than 53 million eligible americans remain unvaccinated young children are still not able to get vac. stated but that could soon change this week the fda and cdc are set to review data from moderna and pfizer on their vaccines for children under five if they sign off this week vaccinations could start soon after realistically. it means we could see shots in arms of kids under five as early as the week of june 20th good news for parents anxious to get their children vaccinated as new data reveals more than 2/3 of americans live in 20 with a high

yesterday afternoon diehard fans showed up to catch a glimpse of the team game five against the golden state warriors is monday at chase center tomorrow night the warriors won friday night trying tying the nba finals at two games apiece. and steph curry and company arrived back in the bay late yesterday afternoon. there. they are the warriors should this video of the team getting off the plane in san francisco? we'll have to make the trip across the country one more time. and thinking about going to one of the remaining nba finals games. well, no surprise. it's going to be pricey tickets for game five tomorrow at chase center are the least expensive on stubhub you can get in for just 800 bucks a seat game six is on thursday in boston and one of the teams will have a chance to wrap up the series there. those tickets are starting at 1300 dollars if the series goes the distance game seven will be back at chase. it's 13:51,350 just to get in and if you want to sit courtside those seats start at 26,000 and

my passed out back in 2017 when it was member was like 104 in the city. i wasn't here that i know. oh my god the story this whole story was like the hottest day ever recorded. city it was over labor day weekend in 2017 completely got heat exhaustion and passed out and passed out. oh my god. yeah, really sick long term effects from that. yeah and heat stroke. that's when you stop actually sweating and that's when your heart starts beating really fast, and that's when we get serious thankfully today we were talking about cooler weather even some drizzle out there this morning. here's live doppler seven, we're gonna press in to parts of the north bay and there you can see live doppler 7 is picking up on some light showers in ukiah. i think the north bay and along the coast has the best chance of finding drizzle and that chance will linger until lunchtime into the afternoon. we'll find drier conditions out there. but here's a live look at sutro tower. i mean, we've got a lot going on. we have a lot of low cloud cover right now along the coast. that's all the fog you see here and then some high clouds begin to move in. there's a cold front that is slowly advancing towards us. it's creating that chance for some drizzle this morning, but

ahead of it. it's also creating very humid conditions out. there. it is a muggy morning out there with fog and patchy drizzle some isolated showers in the north bay. it's a much cooler end to the into that yesterday. we saw some very warm temperatures in the 80s and 90s today most of us in the 60s and 70s, but do not worry. we are warming right back up next week looking at dew points on this measures how much moisture there is in the atmosphere when these numbers start getting into the 50s. that's when it feels muggy when they get above 60. that's what it feels down. right humid out there and that's where we're sitting there right now, and that's how it will feel as you go throughout the morning right now temperatures basically in the 50s and in the 60s, so it's muggy. it's mild out there here. live doppler 7 an area of low pressure is responsible for bringing that cold front through here later on today. once it does. i mean tomorrow's looking beautiful. we'll have sunny skies return and lowering humidity. so that's gonna feel very nice out there. here's future weather. let's go hour by hour for show you all that cloud cover first thing again. there's that chance of some spotty drizzle before lunchtime as we head into the afternoon.

happens to old textbooks schools? no longer need. well one bay area man is putting them to good use abc 7 news senior education reporter liam melendez met up with him in oakland. this is new books. in a different subjects, you know, these old books considered trash or seen as a treasure to some around the world. a dean nasser ending books to his native ethiopia for years now since 1994. a moment i graduates from cal state hayward. i took five thousand books over

here. his organization is called library. infirm foundation fair kids are very intelligent easy to manage easy to coach so my focus is completely with kids his work is known by the staff at some schools in oakland like this one manzanita community school. they reach out to him. so these are books that aren't being used as old curriculum books that are out been offered to the families. just kind of like leftover goodies. there are about 117 million people in ethiopia. but only a fraction of the english but that's changing because tourism is growing and is a strong incentive to learn the language? commercialize a tourism industry is a virgin. is nothing being done there all the way in ethiopia? that's what strikes me like, how

this is abc 7 news. good morning everyone. thanks for joining us. we're going to start the seth hour with another look at the forecast with drew tuma hey, joe. hi, liz, and we're still tracking that humid weather out there. we do some areas of dense fog. you can see behind me. the golden gate bridge is socked in right now. so 101 in spots is certainly a slow go live doppler 7 visibility mode half moon base down to a quarter of a mile visibility. it's mild out there. it's also humid out. are going to feel that humidity as you step outside 50s and 60s this morning a lot of cloud cover out there. here's a live look from emeryville showing you the tops of the sf skyline getting cut off by the cloud cover some morning drizzle very likely close to the coast and in the north base just a muggy morning. it's humid out there. well, hang on to the cloud cover for much in the morning. we'll start to see some afternoon sunshine about three four pm. so it's a great start to our day 60s and 70s. it's also cooler day. we're getting rid of that heat we had both yesterday and friday, so we'll take a closer. look at this humidity and also, a chance to drizzle today coming up in a few minutes liz. alright drew. thanks. i'm a memorial service was held on the east coast for a native son of san jose norman minetta

the ceremony brought together friends family and political heavyweights. he had always had a better vision about our country more perfect union. he always had knowledge about the subjects that he was talking about. so when he spoke we listened if we were smart we listened secretary minetta died last month that his home in and although he had moved to the east coast his heart remained in his beloved hometown. every day i drive to work on the norman y, minetta, california highway 85 15 minutes from the minute a transportation institute at san jose state university i think you get the picture of san jose's regard for dad. secretary minetta will return home on wednesday. his ashes will rest in honor at san jose city hall on thursday. another memorial is planned at the san jose civic auditorium where former president bill clinton will speak and the minetta will be laid to rest
