fans and teams took shelter as warning sirens blared. further west, yellowstone national park is closed after rainfall described as unprecedented triggered rockslides. the river rose six feet between sunday and monday well above the previous high mark in 1918. in montana, rushing water washed away this bridge. authorities say many residents in the area are now isolated as a result of damaged roads. visitors still in the park are being evacuated and all five park entrances will remain closed until at least tomorrow. >> some man said have you not heard the news yet and we all went, no. he said you're not leaving any time soon. >> mean while more th mi summer heat wave. students in milwaukee will go home early because of the heat. experts say climate change is forcing more schools to use heat days when they close because they don't have

air-conditioning. a recent study found 13,700 public schools in the u.s. that did not need ac in 1970 have now installed it or will need to install it by 2025 at a cost of $40 billion. the hot and dry conditions also fueling this wildfire in arizona burning nearly 5,000 acres kicking up this smokenado near flagstaff. more people are being told to prepare to evacuate because of that fire in arizona. we'll check today's forecast in a few moments. in washington the house is expected to vote on a bill today to improve security for supreme court justices. the legislation already approved by the senate would expand protection to the justices' family members. safety concerns are in the spotlight ahead of the decision of roe v. wade and after an alleged assassination plot against justice kavanaugh. otecon for sre jected that idea. president trump has we

leased a statement following day two of the january 6th committee hearings. during testimony monday former attorney general bill barr claimed trump became detached from reality. rudy giuliani is also responding to allegations he was drunk on election night when he urged trump to declare victory. justin finch is here with more. justin, good morning. >> reporter: veronica, good morning. the january 6th committee says former president trump became publicly undermining the results almost immediately. those close to trump say he refused to accept his loss and that no evidence of voter fraud was ever uncovered. the house led! flashing back to election night 2020 and tense moments at the white house. then president trump on track to lose members of his campaign recalling in taped depositions urging trump to hold off on declaring victory. >> it was far too early to be making any calls like that.

didn't have the votes. >> what were the chances of president trump winning the election? >> none. >> reporter: in the long and winding 1-page statement former president trump responded to the hearings calling the committee a kangaroo court and accusing democrats putting on a smoke and mirror show to distract from other issues like inflation and gas prices. the committee has no prosecuting power and has not decided yet on making criminal referrals to the justice department. the next hearing scheduled for wednesday set to delve deeper into the capitol attack. >> thank you. the senate is trying to hammer out a gun safety bill after a bipartisan group of senators agreed to a framework. senator john cornyn the lead republican negotiator says he hopes it can be written in the next few days to vote next week. the bill calls for red flag laws and funding for school security and mental health resources. more than 200 hollywood actors, directors and producers signed a letter pledging to

promote gun safety on the screen including amy schumer, shonda rhimes and judd apatow. s i duncanvlle. we're hearing some of the kids rushed to safety after the gunfire erupted. here's abc's rhiannon ally. >> reporter: this morning, families in texas thankful their children are safe after a man entered a summer camp armed with a handgun. >> he had texted me and said, mom, i think someone entered with a gun. >> reporter: 150 kids were inside the dallas area facility when police say the gunman fired at least one shot inside the building. quick-thinking camp staffers heard the shot and jumped into action ushering the children to safety. >> they just told us to stay quiet and we were in the men's room so there were showers in there so we hid in the showers. >> reporter: one camper says he turned to his faith. >> i was praying to god just so nothing would happen. so nothing bad will happen.

>> reporter: police say they were at the scene two minutes after the first call came in. officers exchanging gunfire with the suspect inside a gym. he later died at the hospital. parents rushed to the scene relieved to find no one else was injured. >> i'm just thankful that my son is alive and no harm was brought to him or any of the kids at the rec center or the staff. >> reporter: the mayor crediting the officers' recent active shooting training for their action. it's unclear if the gunman had an intentional target inside or if this was a random attack. veronica, andrew. >> thank you, rhiannon. high-flying raises are ahead for regional pilots at american airlines. they will see a 50% pay hike as the company responds to the ongoing pilot shortage. some of the american's regional

hathaway losing an estimated $65 billion this quarter alone and now the federal reserve could be ready to drop its slow and steady approach when raising interest rates. economists predict the fed could increase rates by 3/4 of a point tomorrow. that would be the steepest rate hike since 1994, but experts say there is opportunity in the current economic climate. >> it's not all bad. rates on savings are slowly but surely going up. the unemployment rate most recently at 3.6%. more than 11 million job openings as of last count. >> reporter: and some other good news, stock futures were up overnight, a sign investors may try to buy low this morning. president biden is looking to address gas prices during a visit to saudi arabia. the visit is planned for july. biden has called saudi arabia a, quote, pariah state because the u.s. believes crown prince mohammed bin salman ordered the murder of journalist jamal khashoggi. the white house says biden's visit is not just about oil. suggesting human rights may also be raised.
