switch today! >> building a better bay area, moving forward, finding solutions. this is abc 7 news. >> several east bay high school graduates are devastated after they were left off their graduation ceremony program and their diplomas were delayed. it happened to six students including at least three who are in special education classes. they are hurt and they feel discriminated against. i am dan ashley. ama: i am ama daetz. use peña spoke to the parents, who are demanding the school make changes. it is a story you will see only on abc 7 news. >> june 9 is a day they had been looking forward too, graduating from high school. how excited were you to graduate?

>> super excited. luz: that excitement quickly shifted after realizing their names were not part of the graduation program for the class of 2022. >> i felt sad. i felt left out. >> discriminated. luz: for joseph munoz and his family, seeing his name on the program with the rest of the heico was a milestone. he was born with special needs. he is a cancer survivor with liver and kidney transplants. his mom says he is a miracle. >> i live day by day with him. i never know if one of his organs is going to fail and he is going to die. now, i will have this memory. they shattered this beautiful memory for us. luz: for mario, walking in graduation was a moment of pride but his siblings not finding him on the list was hurtful according to his mom. he is the first of his siblings to graduate high school. you want your son to be treated

with respect and to have the same rights as the other students. these parents went to the high school principal to question why multiple special education students were excluded from the program. >> he told me they treat every kid the same. that's not true. luz: the next day, joseph woke up at 7:00 a.m. to clean the frame where he would place his diploma but they found out the school excluded them again. >> we are here to pick up their certificates and she looked at us and said we forgot to order the certificates. luz: today, the school gave them programs with their names on them. in a statement, the school said in part "we are profoundly sorry this omission occurred and we are conducting a full review of our graduation process to ensure a critical error like this does not occur again in the future." san leandro hospital's principal also said they will hand deliver the diplomas to all six students. to some of these parents, it is too late. what do you hope comes out of

this? >> i really hope that this will never happen to anybody else. luz: abc 7 news. ama: a brush fire in pittsburgh this evening threatened homes. the fire burned in the junior high school. it started at a homeless encampment they say. homes were threatened. more than 75 firefighters were able to get control of the flames. take a look at this kind lacks -- timelapse video. flames burned more than 18 acres. dan: new details about this weekend's double murder suicide in san jose. family members are identifying the security guard who was killed after hetried to intervene in a couple' -- he tried to intervene in a couple's fight. the actions of that young man are reflective of the men he was known to be. >> what should have been a normal night on the job turns

deadly for a san jose man being hailed as a hero by family members. daniel silva says his cousin was the security guard who was killed in new murder-suicide in san jose early sunday morning. >> marco was just trying to assist the woman and the children. >> it happened along crescent village circle. silva says it turned out to be a couple having an argument with their six children present. san jose police provided this update monday. >> this was some sort of domestic dispute that was occurring in the parking lot area of this apartment complex. >> police confirm a security guard attempted to intervene and help in some way. >> at one point, the other person involved pulled out a gun . he called my cousin and a woman and himself. >> days later, the family says his actions sunday morning

reflect the type of person he was, always eager to help. >> he was a great man, a good son, and he would go to work to help his mother and siblings make ends meet. >> family members have set up an online campaign to help with funeral costs. they say he was an aspiring ufc fighter known for his contagious smile. someone who spent five years growing out his hair only to give it away. >> he had such a good heart, he would even donate his hair to children in need. that is the kind of person marco was. >> really enjoys it. they get some fun out of it until they can get theirs. >> his whole life ahead of him. he was only 23 years old. he is a great older brother and i know one day, he would have made a great husband and father. but he is gone now. >> in san jose, i am amanda del

castillo, abc 7 news. ama: there is a bold proposal in san francisco to invest money into the api community. at an event today, the supervisor announced the plan that would fund construction projects. everything from purchasing the land to the actual build. it would be a one-time investment spread out over two years. the money would come from the city's general reserve. our media partners at san francisco standard report mayor london breed is against tapping into the general reserve due to economic concerns. dan: a 21-year-old daly city man was in court today, charged with killing an elderly immigrant from thailand with one brutal shove to the ground that you probably saw on videotape. it is a story that made national news when it first happened. dan noyes has the story from san francisco's hall of justice. >> the 83-year-old headed out on his morning walk in the neighborhood.

he was small, thin, nearly blind when antoine watson allegedly sprinted at him, knocking him to the ground. the prosecutor said watson appeared to celebrate and then return to take cell phone pictures. he bled on the ground. >> justice. >>'s family, friends, and supporters have been holding rallies this one outside the hall of justice, pressing authorities to charge this as a hate crime. >> we hope courts do the right thing. they should know what the right thing is. >> as they crowded into court for the preliminary hearing, the family had seen that video many times. there were audible gasps and tears when the prosecutor plated as evidence for it as the first witnesses to arrive at the crime scene, he was struggling to get out. >> since he passed away, yes. >> she is his daughter. >> it's heartbreaking to i am

with you. ama: that is the voice of the men responsible for paying nearly 70,000 survivors of pg&e wildfires. the "you people" he's refusing to talk to are the elected leaders of butte county, where the fire burned, destroying paradise and other towns pay the county is pushing for more transparency about what is happening to the victims money. brandon reutimann has the story. brandon: pg&e committed crimes, killing at least 84 people. most of the tens of thousands who survived moved away but not all. >> i don't like living like this. brandon: a lot of the pg&e crime victims who stayed in the paradise area can only afford to camp, waiting for pg&e settlement money they were promised about two years ago. terry lindsay was counting on money from the pg&e fire victim trust but it did not come. she missed rent on her trailer. >> i'm not going to have a place to live for it i can live in my

truck. brandon: by contrast, the retired judge who runs the fire victim trust makes $125,000 a month according to trust documents. >> what he makes an hour is more than some of our impacted residents are making a nine-month. brandon: the butte county board of supervisors sent him a letter last month, with complaints about minimum -- minimal payments that have left some of the victims on the streets be at the former judge called back with this. >> i'm calling in response to that offensive, uninformed political statement that will send to me. i am not interested in dealing with you. brandon: it wasn't just a statement. the letter asked six specific questions about money paid to victims and spent by the trust on overhead. >> if you really want to know anything about the trust, i would assume, like everybody else, you would call and ask. rather than coming to

uninformed, slanderous conclusions. when and if you get to that point, i will talk to you. >> the county sent a letter and we got, you know, basically told to pound sand. brandon: in response to the voicemail, butte county supervisors voted to look more deeply at the trust. pg&e was allowed to paid half of what it owed victims as stock. the trust lost to hunter $7 million in value, selling stock shares. pcg closed at less than $10 a share on tuesday, leaving victims 1.8 billion dollars short on value. meantime, the trust is spending millions. >> victims are asking questions about how their money is being spent. brandon: will abrams survived the 2017 tubs fire in sonoma county. he is frustrated the trust will not break down the $93 million of expenses it recently reported. he is asking the bankruptcy court to create a way for fire

victims to make the trust answer the questions. >> any time individuals in a position of power are being so secretive, it should give everyone pause. brandon: trustee trotter has declined repeated bequests for interviews and the trust did not respond by our deadline for this story. the board of supervisors voted to push for more transparency. they want answers for the tens of thousands of people pg&e burned out. brandon reutimann, abc 7 news. ama: the trustee did ask governor newsom and the state legislature for help last year, trying to make the victims whole. so far from a solution has not emerged. dan: president biden says he has a plan to bring down the skyrocketing cost of gas and food. the president says his administration is still tapping into oil reserves and working on getting grain out of ukraine to address food prices. during a speech to union workers, he emphasized the white

house is focused on helping the economy. pres. biden: the problem is republicans in congress are doing everything they can to stop my plans to bring down costs on ordinary families. that is why my plan is not finished and why the results are not finished either. dan: today, the labor department reported that producer prices climbed 10.8% in may from one year before. that increase is slightly lower than projected. the index measures inflation from the perspective of costs to producers of products. ama: more dramatic video shows the devastation caused by flooding along the yellowstone river. you are about to see a house crumble into the raging rapids. >> oh my gosh. oh. ama: can you believe that? yellowstone national park remains closed through at least tomorrow to visitors because of high water and mudslides. over the weekend, heavy rains

coupled with high temperatures caused the snowpack to rapidly melt, unleashed a torrent of water that has left behind a trail of destruction. it's not over yet because the river is still rising. >> my grandparents are saying it's the highest it has been in about 100 years so it's pretty crazy to see for sure. ama: numerous people had to be evacuated after getting stranded. as bad as this looks, no deaths or injuries have been reported. thank you for that. dan: thank goodness and that easily could have been a different story. we saw some pictures of rocks coming down on cars on the hillsides, all of it because of rain and the heat altering snow. ama: let's get to meteorologist sandhya patel for the latest. sandhya: the national weather service is calling it unprecedented flooding. nearly half a foot of rain. take a look here. it fell between friday and monday for parts of the park and as we take you back 48 hours, you will see that some areas are still dealing with the rain several more inches from the snow melt.

you have yourself the mess you were looking at. there were still flood warnings for some of the rivers there as they were dealing with rising waters as i mentioned. much quieter. high-pressure brought some low 90's. the low peaks tomorrow. low-pressure comes in and it's going to drive temperatures down. easy and cooler for the end of the workweek. from warm to cool it if so let me show you the temperatures, a sampling of them for tomorrow. santa rosa, 91 degrees. 82 degrees on thursday. nine degrees cooler. san francisco will come down four and san jose from 86 tomorrow to 78 on thursday. eight degrees cooler. a gorgeous view of the moon rising from the roof camera earlier tonight as we look towards the bay bridge. it was so clear and tonight, everyone is reporting clear skies except half moon bay. 50's to 70's on those temperatures right now.
