will be the biggest interest rate hike in decades and the fed is trying to do this without triggering recession. >> the rise of goods and services continues as grip on americans. >> families are now spending nearly $350 more than they did for the same things last year. gas is up five dollars a gallon, groceries are up to. almost 12% and rent is up 26%. with rising costs of rent has people looking for work. the labor department says that producer prices rose 28% last month. the federal reserve is responding by raising costs of

experts warn that the country is headed for recession. karina: bay area home prices have been soaring during the pandemic but a possible recession could cool the market. ryan curry joins us live on what h housing market experts expect could happen. >> with the way the economy is going there is a chance that those prices could drop slightly. according to local expert group, prices could stabilize or drop. the list price for homes are rarely the selling price. they envision more transparency, but interest rates are still

historically low. part of that demand is due to the rise in working from home. people are looking to buy cheaper homes in the bay area. >> even with interest rates going up, we are still below our levels in terms of invest supply for housing. >> other real estate experts say they expect the brakes to be applied when it comes to the buying frenzy. there is still a lot of demand but with the economy the way that it is right now and the potential recession coming, we think people will be more hesitant when it comes to buying homes. ryan curry, abc 7 news. karina: the national average for a gallon of gas is around five dollars. that is a milestone that has not been reached.

the bay area is $6.61. a gallon of gas is $7.29. it does include a $200 gas rebate for californians in the budget. reggie: east bay high school graduates were left off the ceremony program and their deployments -- diplomas got deleted. they feel discriminated against. their parents went to the principal why the students got excluded. >> he said we are here to pick up their certificates and she looked at us and said, we forgot

normal day on the job turned deadly. he was being hailed as a hero. he was a security guard who was killed in a double murder suicide. >> being the good man that he is was trying to assist the woman and children. >> the family said that he was responding to a noise complaint that turned out to be a couple having an argument with their six children present. >> this was some kind of domestic dispute that was occurring in the parking lot area. a security guard tried to interview and help in some way. >> he killed my cousin, he killed the woman and then he killed himself.
