on moscow street, on russia's street. someone is being investigated by police for dan: a suicide inside that house. dan:officers are still on the scene. the person was taken to s.f. general hospital with a life-threatening gunshot wound. police would not tell us what the investigation was about or how close the officers were to the home when the shooting happened. they did clarify none of the officers were part of the investigation and ever drew their weapons. kristen: and six san jose children who lost both parents and a double murder suicide over the weekend. the parents who have taken them and are facing unimaginable loss and an unexpected financial burden. sac fly and test spoke with them today. -- zack fuentes spoke with them today. zack: 23-year-old marco durran,

a security guard, tried to intervene. that's when the father shot durran, shot the mother, and then himself. the kids witness it. they believe he got the kids time they needed to run away. >> she can't understand where her father would do that. >> the woman is identified as erica dash. she had called police multiple times on her husband, who she was separated from. >> she was trying to file for divorce. she was living by herself, working for her children. my mom would take care of the children while she worked. she was trying to be better off because she knew how he was, but in the end, it still didn't matter. zack: the six children, who range from 10-years-old 21 year -- to one-year-old

are now being taken care of by their aunt shannon. this san jose funeral home received a plot to bury erica. the family members are trying to cope with the toll, but are also dealing with their own grief and helping the children process the traumatic experience they witnessed. shannon says despite the challenges they face, the children will be taken care of. >> they don't have a mom or a dad, but they have me, my mom, and my sister, and we are trying to take care of them and move on. dan: we wish them well. the ashes of norman at a have returned to the bay area ahead of a memorial service tomorrow. this water cannon salute earlier today greeted in etta at the airport, that bears his name. men that it was the first asian-american mayor of san jose and a former u.s. secretary of

transportation. he died last month at his home in maryland at the age of 90. they made stops that -- at places that shaped minetta's life in many ways. this is the first time that has happened in city history, by the way. a stream of visitors has been paying final respects to a public servant who loved of the city he called the valley of his dreams. >> it's no secret that he was san jose's favorite son. thank you to each one of you. for coming to san jose to allow norman's remains to be laid to rest here. dan: tomorrow, another memorial planned at the civic auditorium, where former president bill clinton will speak. minetta will be laid to rest next to his parents and siblings. >> this is the next step for so

many parents who have been waiting to get their kids vaccinated. kristen: an fda advisory panel unanimously found vaccines made by pfizer and moderna safe or young children. moderna vaccine is for children six months to six years old, while pfizer's is for six months to five years old. if approved by an fda commissioner and the cdc, vaccines could be made available as soon as next tuesday. dr. monica gandhi joined us on our show this afternoon to talk about how each of these vaccines would be administered. >> there are two types of shots. there is one called moderna, 25 micrograms dose that is given as to shots in six months up to the age of the end of five. the second is pfizer, and it is three micrograms, and given as three shots. the last one is given two months after the second. kristen: the moderna vaccine is

likely to be more effective in protecting children. the first of those shots could be available as soon june 21. dan: also making headlines today, u.s. covid cases are leveling off following the spring surge. the country is averaging over 105,000 new cases a day, a rate that has been holding steady for the past week. kristen: the department of justice says more than $1 billion of covid relief money has been lost to fraud. dan: the national institutes of health has confirmed that dr. fauci has now tested positive for covid. he is fully vaccinated and has been boosted twice. he is on the antiviral pill, apparently. a year ago today, governor newsom lifted the statewide lockdown and california reopened. lz p -- luz pena followed up wih several people who were excited

about that. luz: people are going back to the office, not full-time, but they are going back. people are vaccinated and boosted, and there is a sense of how to keep yourself protected and still live life. here's a conversation i had a year ago with a partner in downtown san francisco. >> we need them to come on in. luz: a year later, it is lunchtime on a wednesday, and most of those people are back. a year later, how are you and how is business? >> we are still standing. we lived another day. we are far better place than this time last year, so that is a positive. luz: tony noticed the shift five months ago, but -- >> statistically, the financial district is at 50% capacity compared to pre-pandemic, which

is still a concern. there are a lot of other businesses out there that are not doing so well and there needs to be more critical mass. luz: but data shows business throughout the city is recovering. >> there are some places you can come back five days a week, some three, some two. we are in a position now where we are coming back in a thoughtful way. luz: a year ago, john gardner, co-owner of three event spaces in san francisco, had an empty booking calendar, today -- >> it's been a year. >> it's been a long year, but it has been a good year. things are coming back. we are probably 80%? luz: to book -- people are hesitant to book events too far

out. there is a fear of the unknown. george rutherford says we need to get comfortable living with covid, with two major variants in the last year, we are better prepared. >> we learned the limits of vaccine protection, they are effective against preventing severe disease and death, but they are less effective as time goes on and giving actual protection. luz: having access to antiviral pills like paxlovid have been key in this new phase of the pandemic. there are also new pieces of research on long covid and ways to prevent it. kristen: luz, thank you. stocks jumped today after the federal reserve announced it will increase interest rates. the dow edged up 304 points, or 1%. stocks closely tied to the economy, such as boeing and financial companies, surged on the news.

tech stocks also grew. amazon and tesla gained more than 5%. today's interest hike of three quarters of a percentage point is the highest in 28 years. it pushed the benchmark federal funds rate to 1.75 percent. that the interest rate financial institutions charge each other for overnight loans and funds. fed chairman jerome powell indicated a single rate hike could come in july if the economic data does not improve. dan: new developments, the california public utilities commission is finding pg&e $12 million for power safety shut off. they say pg&e did not follow the rules when it came to notifying customers that it would be turned off the power -- turning off the power and did not properly explain why a shut off was necessary, or track customer complaints. the power shut off events between september and december of 2020. pg&e has 30 days to respond to

dan: there is a winner in the race for alameda county sheriff. the sheriff's commander has won the primary over long time sheriff greg gaber. kristen: sanchez grabbed more than 52% of the vote. >> we are at 52.69% of the vote. >> there's appearoing to be a new sheriff in town, as sanchez holds a lead over greg ahern, who has been in office since 2006. >> it has been awkward, going to work daily and running against

closer to us and dryer. it will spin off our coast and drive this cooling trend tha tep nearly 20 degrees the next 24 to 48 hours. here's a look at future radar. we have a few clouds anchored to the coast tonight, and you can see the increase in high clouds as the cooler air mass is introduced by this cold front. the sunshine will deepen the air mass as we head into thursday and friday. for tonight, the same as this morning. low to mid 50's. as you look at tomorrow, low to mid 70's in the south bay, 60's in san mateo, low to mid 70's for the rest of the peninsula and upper 50's to low 60's along the coast. mid-60's in downtown san francisco. in the north bay, 70's about everywhere. calistoga could get to 80, than upper 60's and berkeley, oakland, newark, haywood, and then cooling off to the mid-70's and barely a mid 80, 83 in temperatures well below avere

kristen: let's take a live look at sfo, there are signs telling passengers to prepare for long waits at security. ryan curry has a look at what's behind the warning. ryan: it's the middle of the week at san francisco international airport, and it's packed. security lines are crowded with people traveling this summer. >> the lines are getting longer and longer. i am glad everyone is traveling, with covid and everything we are back, but now we need to catch up. ryan: sfo telling passengers to give themselves lots of time to get through security. the amount of travelers going

as we gear up for game one of the stanley cup at 5:00 p.m. tomorrow is game six of the nba finals. dan: we will begin with the warriors back in boston, one win away from their fourth title since 2017. we begin with chris alvarez, back in boston. what a wild ride has been. chris: yeah, what a wild ride it has been for three superstars in this course, steph curry, klay thompson, and draymond green. some practice foota from earlier today, stephen curry appreciating the u.s. open trophy, the major golf tournament being held just on the road this week. it's busy this week. the warriors on the cusp of another title, and today, draymond green, klay thompson, and steph curry discussed the journey together in this special moment on the trip after boston. >> it's funny.
