federal criminal statutes. president trump had no factual basis for what he was doing. he have been told it was illegal. reporter: the committee will hear from live witnesses close to mike pence, who intend to highlight donald trump's lawyer's plan. sources tell abc news the committee is in possession of emails between easement and thomas, the wife of supreme court justice clarence thomas. the details of the emails are unclear, but thomas and eastman have both been accused of trying to overturn the election. also, new questions surrounding barry loudermilk's actions on january 5. a video released showing him giving constituents a tour of the capital complex. the video goes on to claim one of the participants of the tour marched on the capital the next day and made threats against

members of congress. barry loudermilk is denying wrongdoing. >> nobody in that group showed aggression that day. reporter: pence will be in ohio today delivering a speech. one of his top advisers will be participating at the hearing. reggie: we will have live coverage of today's hearing starting around 10:00 a.m. you can watch it on abc seven and wherever you stream. kumasi: this morning, there are mounting fears of a recession after the federal reserve announced it was raising a key interest rate for the third time this year. the three quarter of 8% hike is an effort to slow down inflation that has caused the cost of everything to spike. the move could bring down prices, but it could also slow down the economy and trigger a recession. >> i think a recession is possible. economists are bad at predicting recessions. the fed has a reasonable chance of achieving what jay powell

cause a soft landing, either no recession or a mild recession, to bring inflation down. kumasi: jerome powell indicated a similar hike could come next month if the economic data does not improve. in an effort to lower gas prices, president biden sent a letter to major oil companies, blasting them for raking in record profits and called on them to increase production. the chp is investigating a crash on byron highway. authorities say a car and a suburban carrying nine crashed yesterday. one man died at the scene. four were taken to the hospital. the crash knocked down a powerline, which sparked a grass fire on the side of the road. firefighters put it out quickly. reggie: america's youngest kids are closer than ever this morning to getting a covid vaccine. the fda has recommended authorizing modernity and pfizer shots for kids.

officials stressed that the vaccines are safe and effective at protecting young children against covid. both companies reported mild reactions to the shots. it is a relief for parents who have been waiting to get their children vaccinated. >> she is about to start preschool, so the exposure she will have to kids and the possibility for her to get it if she is unvaccinated is that much higher. reggie: the cdc has to sign off, but vaccines are expected be available as early as next week. as we have reported, local health officials are already preparing to have their uses. a new study finds many people have experienced neurological issues up to six months after covid symptoms go away. researchers say the symptoms include fatigue, headaches, memory problems and difficulty concentrating. only a third of patients said symptoms had completely cleared at the six-month mark. scientists plan to monitor the

for the community and for operators to have a feeling that they are being targeted or there has been an update in attacks. reporter: lisette is the deputy of bus operations for vta. she says incidents have ranged from verbal attacks to being spit on to serious physical assaults. this week, the transit agency turned into the community for help finding this man. they say he is responsible for a may 25 us all at a transit center that left a bus driver with a concussion and a laceration to his face. she says in many cases attacks are completely out of the blue and unexpected. >> i have had three separate occasions where guns have been pulled out. in one eye was hit with a baton in the face. -- i was hit with a baton in the

face. reporter: this bus driver says he was sent to the hospital after that woman scratched him and broke skin. in his 10 years of experience, he blames covid for cutting passenger patience down to zero. >> the pandemic did something. reporter: but with a change in behavior comes change in their safety blueprint. vta says it has modified policies, even putting up physical barriers between the operators and passengers. >> that barrier, i use it religiously. because that gives us a fighting chance for anything. reporter: beyond the barriers, vta is working with the county d.a. and law enforcement to send a message, it is a serious situation when you attack a public servant. >> we will investigate the suspects and take them into custody. >> these people are trying to serve the community, they should

not be targeted and we will look to do whatever we can to make sure that folks know we will not tolerate it. reporter: in the south bay, abc7 news. reggie: a heartbreaking story, six siblings orphaned over the weekend when their parents died in a murder suicide. it started as an argument between the parents near crescent village circle in san jose. a security guard, marco duran, try to intervene. that is when the father shot duran, shot the mother and then himself. the children were nearby and saw everything. >> the oldest one, who saw the incident, she still cries. and she cannot understand why her father would do that. reggie: the children's aunt says the mother has separated from the father. now they will be taken care of by two aunts and their

grandmother. the police have set up a link for people to donate to the family, and that link is on our website. >> today committee meeting in solidarity with the lgbtq plus community will be held today. it comes after a group of men affiliated with the proud boys yelled slurs at a drag queen during a children's reading event, it happened on saturday. representative saul wall is an active member of the congressional lgbtq plus a quality caucus. in a statement he wrote there is no place for hate in the east bay and we need to speak up with one voice. reggie: president biden has assigned in order to protect lgbtq americans and delivered a firm a firm message to go with it. president biden: you are loved. you do belong. reggie: the order cracks down on the discredited practice of

two u.s. a former service members are feared it to be captured by russian forces. both are from alabama and were reportedly serving as volunteers with the ukrainian military. one man's family says his platoon came under heavy fire last week, forcing everyone to fall back except for the two men. the state department is aware of the reports. a top isis leader has been captured at u.s. military raid in syria. a defense official says there were no injuries to u.s. personnel and no damage to the aircraft involved. an official also says the isis leader was detained. he is an experienced bomb maker and facilitator who became a top leader of isis. he is described as actively planning isis operations. this is the second major rate against isis under president biden. special forces attempted to kill or capture the group's leader in

february, but he detonated a suicide vest, killing himself. reggie: growing concerns on wall street about a recession. while the focus remains on inflation, the president is suggesting he could take new action. our reporter has that. reporter: this morning, with inflation the number one issue of concern for most americans, and no relief in sight with the gas prices, new reaction to a letter that the president sent yesterday to oil executives, blaming corporate greed along with the war in ukraine for the record high prices at the pump. he warned he could invoke emergency powers to increase output at refineries, writing profit margins above normal being passed directly to american families are not acceptable. but the white house is not showing how the president might use his executive power. >> we are calling on them to do the right thing, to be patriots and not to use of the war as an excuse. reporter: oil refinery capacity

great challenges. reporter: and there is no evidence of little that inflation is taking on on the economy. abc news, new york. karina: while gas prices remain high, there is a glimmer of relief. aaa reports the price for a gallon of regular in san francisco has dropped by four cents since monday. it is still dollars 65 -- it is still $6.59 a gallon. in san jose is $6.52. reggie: a $135 million plan to increase affordable housing spending. the chronicle reports this proposal includes $35 million to pay initiatives, including teacher housing projects and it subsidies for low income seniors. preston's plan would allocate $100 million in long-term debt financing, that could help with building housing developments.
