reggie: terrifying for momentd fors people living in pittsburgh this morning. kumasi: this is what it looks like just hours ago. sky 7 is live giving us our first look at the fire from above. the homes south of highway 4 had to be evacuated overnight because of this right. it looks like it is so much better right now but still watching this area closely. good morning, everyone thank you so much for being with us. reggie: we want to get right to ryan curry. >> very good news, we are learning a lot of residents are now going back to their homes. they have actually slowly been trickling back into their homes throughout the morning. i think most of them are actually now back in their homes which is promising news.
6:01 am
i will tell you what is the biggest residue right now is the smell. you can definitely smell the burning from this hill that is just over my shoulder and just overhedage is from a back of the homes. that must have been a very alarming scene for these residents as they woke up to very bright flames and very intense heat very close to this neighborhood. very clearly obvious why they had to be evacuated and why they had to going to nearby safety because who knows how fast this fire was going to be spreading. what we can tell you is that this wind is very intense and very severe blowing this fire in many different directions. contra costa fire did put out a notice recently saying most of the fire is contained. no one has been injured that they know of and no structures have been damaged. they did say love structures --

a lot of structures were damaged because the fire was so intense. most of what was burning when we got here was in this little valley canyon near some of the homes. that has since been put out as well as fire crews that have been around this area have now left. we did speak with residents who were evacuated to a nearby safeway. one o t me she had to go up and down doors knocking on neighbors doors just to get everyone in and out because the fire was so intense. >> i woke up our neighbor and then went back over there. banged on it some more and got them up. and then the neighbor went over to the other neighbor and he did not answer so i called and he answered and they were leaving and i called our other neighbor and they were coming home. >> very alarming moments this morning for a lot of those residents. neighbors come in handy. if you're ever in a fire situation like that, i would want a neighbor to do the same thing.
6:03 am
it is good everyone had each other's backs. the bright news is that a lot of these residents are now back into their homes. no power outages or anything like that. the wind is still pretty and fence but we have seen firetrucks now leave this area which is very promising news. all that remains are these burn hills and the burning smell that is still in the air. very promising news for what was probably a very frightening start for these neighbors in this area. reggie: thank you for the update. it was a pretty windy night in eastern contra costa county. kumasi: let's get to meteorologist for the conditions. >> we have a weather station near the area of the fire and the winds have gotten a little bit better. relative humidity. wind is the story for today. we are expecting winds to start picking up in the east bay
