the parade that will stretch for blocks and blocks dubination will be out in forest. and if you're coming out you might want to leave your car at home. go try to get the warriors championship hats maybe some loony shirts play tops and shirts anything like, you know championship wise for the team trying to figure it out first. gotta have the gear the warriors team shop at thrive city was crazy busy friday selling all things dubs. just ours after the team was crowned the champs. so happy we were the obvious question for dub nation now is are you going to the parade for thousands of fans? the answer is yes, monday's warriors. victory parade in san francisco will start at the foot of market street and end at 8th street warriors coaches. and staff will travel the same route other champs have made through the years like the giants in 2014 and the 49ers back in 1981. mayor, london bree tweeted her excitement for the team saying now it's time to celebrate in

this city. they started in san francisco and they got a championship in san francisco. we're expired as making plans to take thousands of fans to parade by expanding the length of each train to 10 cars. like kristen was saying literally in the last 15 minutes. the mayor's office made a change in the parade route. originally the parade would stretch to 6th street now we'll continue on to 8th street. perhaps allowing even more folks to show up. however, you get here bart says organizers say arrive early because like like everyone is saying thousands and thousands of people will be here and police officers also will be here to keep you one safe.

parade. it's gonna be a lovely sunny and mild san francisco afternoon, just a glorious day for parade or for any outdoor activity. i'll have the full accuweather seven day forecast a little bit later. i'm pretty excited right now. monday totally spencer. thank you. and here's a look at the parade routes now that we've looked at the weather it begins monday at 11:20 am at market and main streets. the route is a little more than a mile long a little longer noww because the mayor just extended it ending now at market and eighth instead of the original market in sixth now if you can't go you can party along and wt h. larry beale will be here to keep you informed and entertained our live coverage begin. 10 in the morning. we'll bring you bring you live e all the way through the parade route. bart to and from the parade should use the embarcadero montgomery powell and civic center stations, but red and yellow trains coming from the east bay will not stop at montgomery street station before the parade. the montgomery station will be

open for those coming up from the peninsula. we have all this information for you in our parade guide story on our website abc 7 news.com. so we saw steph curry in tears last night. of the warriors captured their fourth title in eight years beating boston in six games curry went for 34 points locking up the series and his first finals mvp award pointing to his ring finger in the third quarter. that might have been a little bit prematur. buthe the celtics dubs were able to close out the seas emotions overflowing during the celebration. think about klay thompson coming backrom two devastating injuries teaming up with staff and draymond to capture what steve kerr called their most unlikely championship big hug from pops, you know, this team was not healthy until game one of the playoffs now the dubs dynasty has been nude you get goosebumps. just thinking about you know, all those snapshots and episodes that we went through to get back here. that's why i say i think this championship hits different. that's why i had so many so many emotions and still will just because of what it took to get

back here to be here for a fourth time. like i saw at the beginning of seasons people call me crazy. i said championship a bus because i saw what i knew we had a chance to do something special and here we are like this is so so incredible. wow, it was tough getting through those two years, but hugely productive and makes it all the satisfying to be able to do this and win a title and know that it would you know, it was not for for not and they let us championship and you go hear about it. oh yeah from draymond we will keep hearing about it, you know, kristen what's scary for the rest of the league is when you look at the warriors core they're still in their prime the stuff's 34 plays a little younger draymond and they got a bunch of younger players who can help keep this team on top for years to come so the future looks really bright cool party among other things. yes. no, it's it's amazing and there's so right that success is sweeter after you've struggle mightily. yeah, they work for it and steve said the most unlikely championship of for they have gotten so keep the theme in the

sports world another positive step forward for the a's ballpark plan at howard terminal the final report from the san francisco bay conservation and development commission is recommending removing port priority use at howard terminal. what does that mean? it means it's cleared the way for the land to be used for the stadium development. the commission is expected to vote on this issue, june 30th. approval is now seen as likely the last major hurdle for the a's. getting final approval from the city and the county. this weekend the cdc is expected to sign off on covid vaccines for children under five today santa clara county health officials announced that they're ready to begin. once the go-head is given dr. sarah. cody says getting kids ages six months to five vaccinated with either the moderna or pfizer vaccines is very important. so not only do we hope that these vaccines will reduce infection and transmission, but they will also make life just a little bit easier for families

with young children, and it's one step closer to returning to something that looks like normal. dr. cody says covid deaths among the youngest children are rare. there's some 400 cases in the country and one in santa clara county. she points out many more kids have become very sick though from covid. in fact, she says kids under five have had the highest rate of hospitalizations compared to other age groups. are joining us now is abc 7 news contributor dr. alok patel dr. patel. first off is this emergency authorization a slam dunk this weekend from the cdc any reason you can see it all that that could be derailed. kristen i like that you the phrase slam dunk to kind of throwing some sports sports terms out there. this is another big step board for public health. i do i feel optimistic that the cdc will go ahead and give this a green light tomorrow and then just pending that final approval from cdc director wilinski. we will hopefully see shots rolling out early next week. i would say soon to be a slam dunk.

friends between the madonna and the fiser vaccine for the youngest kids. is it the dosage? is at the time that it takes to complete, is that the efficacy you know kristen simply put if we actually start to look really deep into the data, which is what these committees from the fda and the cdc did the efficacy is very similar, but the big difference that parents out there need to understand is of the visor vaccine is three doses moderna is two and where that's gonna make a difference is when parents think about the timing towards that full effect and it's actually important in one advisor brought this up today in the cdc committee talking advisor and saying parents need to understand that you need all doses of the visor vaccine to reach that optimal i guess you can't just get two and so what the visor shot you're waiting three weeks between the first two doses and then up to for the third one, whereas with moderna we're getting the full immune effect after a two doses. so something to keep in mind when parents start planning. see, okay. are you getting a lot of interest from parents or they showing that they're going to
4:09 pm
get their kids to shop? i'm seeing the entire spectrum kristen, you know in terms of the parents that we see in the hospital. most of them are absolutely gonna get the shot for their young children parents who have kids who have underlying medical conditions or a little bit people who are high risk absolutely are as well. we're also seeing and hearing from a lot of parents who say you know what i'm interested. i want to know more about the safety and efficacy and then not surprisingly there is a lot of people especially those parents who reach out to me on social media and say absolutely not we're not gonna get our children the vaccine and we need to make sure sure that we have those one-on-one convers. that we build trust moving forward right? i mean, of course the experts by proving this are saying that look the benefits far outright the risks are there special risks to consider for that really young age group. the there as far as what we saw in the clinical trials, there are no big risks. there were no adverse serious adverse events reported during the clinical trial no case of myocarditis or anaphylaxis, but in terms of any specific questions parents may have it's best you keep talking to your doctor about all of it.
4:10 pm
last this is gonna be the big thing that we're looking at next week kristen if cdc director once he signs off on saturday night. we know that on sunday. it's a federal holiday juneteenth. there will be no shipping then and then shipping should start early next week. hopefully, we'll see a broad rollout, but we got to pay attention to equity because right now not every pharmacy is gonna be able to give these shots out. especially not to children under the age of 18 months pediatricians offices should have them not everyone has access to a pediatrician schools out. so that's another site that we were giving out vaccines previously to older children, so, needs to be a clear drawn-out plan to make sure everyone out there has access to these shots. yeah. summer timing is a little tough. all right, doctor alok patel. thank you so much. really? appreciate it. thank you. coming up an overnight wildfire brings home. the reality that we all need to be ready this summer the controversy surrounding efforts to release san francisco mayor

san francisco mayor london breeds brother napoleon brown has served half of his 44-year cents for murder robbery and carjacking and now his attorney believes brown should be released because the laws changed in 2019. well, the basic point is that he doesn't meet the definition of murder anymore because you have to show reckless and difference to life. requisite difference to life is typically explained as firing a gun into a crowd. here's what happened. just after midnight, june 19 2000 napoleon brown ended accomplice robbed the johnny rockets restaurant at fisherman's wharf the crowded four workers into the basement and took 7,200 from the safe. the manager got a bump on his head when one of the suspects hit him because he wasn't opening the safe fast enough and undercover cop saw the men walking with a red bank deposit bag and get into a escort driven by lenty's white the officer followed as a sped onto the golden gate, but they stopped on

calculations we did i think in a fairly significant way dodge a major bullet as the sun rose. you could not only see the damage caused, but what could have been up close doesn't tell the full story when you zoom out you can see this fire back right up to hundreds of homes hill says, it's an overwhelming message that fire season doesn't just happen in places like napa or the santa cruz mountains. it impacts everyone when you look at last year and now i think this year is starting the pretty much the same way the wind driven fires that damaged and destroyed homes and displaced residents happened in areas outside of those highest severity zones. in fact, this was the second grass fire in pittsburgh this week that put homes at risk hill says there were no injuries and no homes lost. he attributes this in part to the work of the community and hopes other seeing this story will learn from this lesson. there is an awful lot of riskine

4:21 pm
mainly bright start to the day tomorrow and it'll get sunny or as the day goes on overnight low temperatures will be generally in the low 50s, but a little cooler in the north bay where we'll see some mid to upper 40s also upper 40s on the coast and then tomorrow breezy conditions with high temperatures up to about 59 or 60 along the coastline mainly upper 60s to about 70 around the bay shore line and inland areas will warm up to only a low to mid 70s tomorrow. so once again quite a bit cooler than average for this time of year. here's the accuweather 74 forecast father's day. sunday is looking great sunny and a bit warmer even warmer on monday the official date for juneteenth, of course is sunday the 19th, but the federal holiday will be on monday then look at the heat on midweek tuesday. a high temperatures inland at or above 100 degrees right around the bayshore line upper 80s to low 90s. there'll be modest cooling on thursday than on friday temperatures moderate to a more seasonal range, larry and kristen. thank you spencer. it's going to get super hot really quick here.

all with no monthly service fee. area moving forward finding solutions. this is abc 7 news. san francisco's controversial tenderloin center will close in december city officials have decided not to add additional funding for the center in the next budget at center opened just six months ago as part of the city's emergency declaration in the tenderloin facing a drug epidemic that requires us to throw everything. we have to stop it the goal of this center is to help people struggling with mental illness and substance use disorder and to get them to help and the treatment that they need. the sutter center has been criticized for its harm reduction service which allows drug use on-site under supervision. abc 7 news insider film it's here has been covering the problems in the tenderloin for years now and is joining us as we continue with our effort to build a better bay area. so what is the center closing say about what is happening in the tenderloin right now phil that there's no quick fix.
4:31 pm
i mean the bottom line is in six months. we still have problems there. it has gotten better, but it's not something that's going to be taken care of in an instant in it's an expensive and it's a tough fight and it's one that the mayor is going to be taking on if she decides to keep going on this she's bet a lot on it. it's trying to turn around the image of san francisco, and it's not going to be easy and it's not going to be done with one center and whether it closes now closes in december or closes next year. so would you say it was a success a failure or maybe something in between there? i'd say it's something in between. let's take a look at some of the numbers rent at the place is $75,000 a month, but in order to keep it operating it's well over a million dollars a month. it's going to take 10 million dollars to keep it open until the the year, what are we getting for our money? well, what we're getting is about 49,000 visits to the center by rivers people 900 people were put into shelter as a result of those visits 53 went into drug treatment and 150 went
4:32 pm
into permanent housing. that's a pretty expensive proposition. no matter how you look at it, but the fact is there was also a public relations and political angle to this larry what we're seeing on the streets out there right now was being seen by the world and san francisco is a tourist. center and that was not the image they wanted they wanted this image that something is being done. and that's what mayor london breed provided with this center now where it goes from here depends on the increased. can they keep the police down there? can they keep operations like this going they're probably going to move it to another location at the end of the year spread it out remains to be seen but it's an expensive proposition, but one that the mayor felt she had to make because the city and the health issues there. i mean we had 64 people die of drug overdoses last year. that is a real problem. well when you you look at a number like that you have to wonder did this really make any difference at all that it did it help anything. well, they're on track now for fewer deaths whether it's the
4:33 pm
center that's changing that or just the idea that we have more people out there that and more narcan that can reverse overdoses. instantly larry look the center is not the solution on somethinn order for her to get those police down there to get people moved out and to get the ambassadors in there in order to keep the the people from sleeping on the and openly using drugs on the streets. she had to provide an alternative. that was the deal and that they didn't have a space so they grabbed this one. so does it pay off? we'll see but the city has the money right now and there's not closing this for lack of funds larry. they're closing this because it's in part because the location of it is right in the middle of the downtown. there's a new apartment complex across the street and there's the orpheum theater for tourists and this is you in plaza and it's not the best look for for mid-market going into another year either. yeah, that makes sense is kind of an empty thing last question
4:34 pm
the harm reduction efforts. yeah, pretty controversial people around the country think we're crazy what we're doing out here like okay supervised drug use what well, we're not the only ones it's been done in canada. it's been done in the netherlands. it's been done in other places. as well and whether it's supervised or not what we're basically saying it's against the law to have a supervised drug intake center. okay that that so they're trying to get around it by saying if you do the drugs, we're here to help in case you overdose larry. yeah, a lot of people are going to say is san francisco crazy and that got to say the answer is probably a yes, maybe a big. yes. i'm not gonna deny it and but we're in this situation and they're trying everything. they're throwing the kitchen sink at it and the may but she's going to provide maybe safe places to take the drugs, but she wants them off the streets. and right now she'll settle for that saving lives and getting people off the streets. not that that solves the problem. okay, but that's what she wants. well, you can certainly understand that given the negative reputation with the homeless and the crime in the
